Well it is that time of year. On the Columbus board there is a 103-137 section spat. There is a lull in the season. The novelty of a new season has worn off & it's too early for a real playoff race. Fans need something to fight about.
It sounds like it's time to create Supporter Club Supporter Clubs The 13th man! Here to cheer on the 12th man since it's all about them!
No one here thought it was unique to the league - it happens at all the bad teams - in fact folks from our groups used to be able to go all over the site and make fun of them for that and say it proved they were bad fans You just never expected it from supposedly good fans
Since this issue keeps popping up, I'm going to break our club's silence and make the first, last, and only statement from the Screaming Eagles on this issue. Anyone with questions can ask them to me personally offline. There is no spat between the supporters groups. As long as other groups support United and do so with respect for one another, it is not the business of the Screaming Eagles how they choose to show that support. We have been, are, and always will be stronger for having each other - and our different approaches - around. We're all in this for DC United. The Screaming Eagles will always strive to achieve - both through our own initiatives and in partnership with the other groups - the common goals for the team that all of us share. These goals include selling as many tickets as possible, being as supportive as we can be inside RFK Stadium, providing traveling support to the team, and generally helping DC United win more championships in whatever way possible. It also includes building the sport of soccer in the DC area and being a giving, participating member of the community. All the groups have done great work to these ends, and all the groups undoubtedly will continue to do so. But soccer still isn't the #1 sport in DC, the Redskins still get higher TV ratings than United, and RFK still isn't filled up to the 500s with passionate fans. So we still have a lot of work to do. If you want to see those things happen the same way I do, join the movement. You can do that through joining a supporters group - ANY group - and getting involved. But you can also bring friends to RFK, watch United on TV with a newbie, kick the ball around with a buddy, or coach a team of kids. There are hundreds of ways you can help DC United and the sport of soccer grow. We all love this team and we all love this sport. Let's show everyone else why.
That reminds me of the Bill Hicks bit, "People who hate people".. "We're having a meeting and we need you there" "******** you!!!" "That's what I'm saying, your'e one of our best members!!"
