no way. but now we know that freddy, altidore, szetela, zizzo, rogers, sturgis, bradley have a real future with the national team
We don't know that either. One game does not a future star make. We need consistent performances out of all of these guys, and only THEN can we even think about what they might be able to do with the senior side.
Yes of course, the U20 team would beat them. The USMNT is horrible at every position with alot of ego. ADU is far superior than the arrogant Faihaber or the fancy Mapp. Szetela and Altidore finish better than TT & EJ. On defense, probably the USMNT has a slight edge.
part of the problem is inexperience so id have to say no. plus even the worst players on the roster(davies, nguyan, wynne and gaven(well he may be worse)) are probably better than the best players on the u-20's
U done lost your mind, yo. Who has more POTENTIAL, the U-20. But who's the better overall team today; USMNT in Copa. Now, if the question were "Which of the two teams will probably see more players on the World Cup 2010 roster?," THEN we'd have a more reasonable debate...
If Adu was on the Copa squad, we may very well be top of the group. Adu could push the ball up to EJ, who has shown incredible effort in the Copa,. Feilhaber has not been able to alone.
I heard Dos Santos said that Lavolpe was too scared to put the current U-20's on the national team. Oh wait... for a second there i thought that this was a thread in the Mexico boards.
Wish this was a public poll, it'd be nice to have a litmus test to see who the BigSoccer stupidheads are, so we could fill up them ignore lists. Fortunately a few are commenting, so... Oh, and for said stupidheads...hell no.
The U20's would certainly give the squad at Copa some troubles. You ask why? The group at the U20's have spent more time together, they work much better as a group. Most of the group at Copa probably don't understand each other as well on the field, or off.
I couldn't answer the poll. You didn't put the USMNT would barely win. I think the u-20 defense is not good enough enough to hang with the big boys. Offensively I would give the edge to the U-20. They have at least 3 players that could do well in the Copa. And like someone else pointed out in the thread they have played longer together, therefore play better together. Final Score would be 3-2 or 2-1 for the Copa team.
I don't think that the U-20 team would win, but they might not lose either. It all depends on how many sitters the US team would miss and how many back passes Bornstein would leave for Altidore.
Are people around here getting dumber every year, or are there just random outbursts of stupidity at certain times? Yes, I'm sure the Copa America squad would lose to a team of MLS benchwarmers and college players.
my god. so does this also mean the morons that voted yes actually think that our copa america team would lose to s.korea u-20 team?
Could the U-20 team beat the team at the Copa? Sure they could. Is it likely? No. We have been able to see what team can finish better. Clearly the U-20's can finish chances. I am not convinced Twellman or EJ would find the net against the U-20's even with multiple chances each. Also, I think two open headers were missed from inside the six by two others against Paraguay. I am not 100% convinced the Copa squad can score goals, even when creating chances.
I like the optimism and I agree there is great potential I think there are potentially like 6 or 7 guys on the u-20's who will have a large impact on the full team down the road but if the game was played today the Copa team would thrash them like 5-1, if you set this exact game up in 3 or 4 years now that would be interesting.
Sadly I would have to say that it would be a closer match than some would care to admit. Mostly that would be due to familiarity amongst the U20 squad. Don't forget that Feilhaber and Wynne were with some of these guys in the last U20 WC as well, so the talent pool on the Copa team isn't exactly amongst the vets. The Copa team could, if given time to get its shit together, beat the U20s pretty routinely, but the finishing, goalkeeping and underweighted passes make the Copa team a toothless beast for anyone to face, including a well organized MLS squad.
