Should I go the distance on Deadwood? [R - sort of]

I watch all tv via netfix.

I am basically hitting my head against the wall waiting for the next season of the Wire.

I am still working through the Sopranos but am finding it slow going around season 5.

I am giving up on the Shield. I enjoyed season one through three but tired of Vic and Forrest in season four. Just don't care about any of the characters anymore.

Just saw the first two episodes of Deadwood. Obviously intriguing. But is this show a one trick pony? It's very good but is it going to go anywhere? If it's just pigs and some surprising violence and ha ha what he cursed then I am not sure I am down for it. Do I need to give it a couple more episodes before I say yeah or nay?

    In my opinion, yes.

The show is a little slow out of the gate for the first 6-8 episodes but the second season is pure gold in terms of television entertainment.

The problem is that after season three, the creator of the show decided to shut it down and work on John from Cincinatti.

Ultimately, there are rumors of a movie or some such thing, but those look more and more bleak each day.

There was some finality in the last season finale on several topics but because of the movie/fact that it ended abruptly, there were definitely several issues left unresolved.

So your call as to whether this information helps you or not.

My wife also had to convince me, because at first I just wasn't feeling the whole show.

But I give it about 5,000 thumbs up. For me, truly one of the best shows ever -- and for a good while there, it was eclipsing The Sopranos.

It can be harder to follow -- both linguistically and plot / motivation-wise. The Wild West Victorian Pottymouth vernacular they created is one of the show's most brilliant features, but it can also prove difficult. And why who did what to whom can also get pretty subtle.

But again: Well, well, well worth the effort.

    My two cents.

I was hooked from episode one. Loved the entire first season--we're about to start season two soon.

We were trying to follow the Wire on BET, but the commercials and editing were too annoying. Got through about 1/2 of season one and loved it, but we need to reboot when we get our hands on the dvds.

oman, the neat thing to me is that, a bit like The Wire, it is both the same show and a very different show once you move forward. Same writing and a few key characters, but the currents of change are remarkable. Like suddenly making The Wire about school kids - same show, different show. Stick with Deadwood.

Television on Netflix and DVR is fantastic!

Definitely stay with it. The rest of season 1 is great but then you get into season 2 which is amazing. Season 3 is great, but abruptness in the end still makes me wish for more.

    100% see it all.

It's the second best show next to The Wire.

Nothing personal....but since this is a Deadwood thread, it needed to be said.

I miss it more than the Sopranos and that's saying something. Nothing better than Al and Woo going at it.

I'm surprised you got tired of the Shield during the Forrest Whittaker season. Just see that season out, it won't let you down.

Beat me down. I enjoyed the show up until then, and I watched the whole season. I just ended up disliking everyone.

If you tell me that either Luis Guzman or Giancarlo Espositio joins the crew, I might try the next season. Only they could save it.

I'm in pain just at the mention of that episode.
