    Quote from Starving Gator
. "As long as he has confidence in his team and himself, the result of the match is irrelevant. You can't control what the scoreline is, you can only control how you play and how you help your teammates".

This, and a few other posts above by others, underscores where the issue lies. It IS NOT about scrying the words of the oracle that is Kasey to guess at what is going on. It IS about reflecting over his reduced performance this past year [from Czechs through Bundesliga through GC] and marking that it has been accompanied by a reduced confidence in his game. Shown by what? By words? No, shown by frequent bouts of hesitation where once Kasey was simply sure of what he should do. Shown by an increasing tendency to lash out at other on the field of play when things sour for him. Shown precisely, then, by how he controls play and helps teammates.
I suppose our disagreement boils down to this: You think his decline is marginal and has not been accompanied by a loss of field leadership. I think his decline is significant, and has been accompanied by such a loss.

I hope you're right, and that tonight I feast on crow pie;)

    Anyway, let's go Yanks!

i think its refreshing to see a player not scared to say what he really thinks and not act all cocky.

Personally, I don't mind reinforcing the idea in other teams' minds that we suck.

IMO Keller is trying to build up the Argies and give them a little too much confidence, while at the same time keeping our players from being overwhelmed. He has difused the situation well.

The players will come out and show well. We may be a little inconsistent at times, but all these guys are professionals and they WILL do some very good things at times. It's STILL 11 on 11 and you have to PLAY THE GAME!!! Don't be surprised if we do well!!!

On the other hand, I think the US media has been TRULY PATHETIC!!! They have written us off already and we've yet to even walk on the field. Reporters are talking about the US basically being run over, but I think we will greatly surpass their expectations. I'm not asking anyone to ignore the experience factor, but how about a little support for the team, eh?

Especially in the second half when the Argentina players, who have just come up to hot Venezuela from cold Argentina, begin to wilt, our players will have more endurance in the heat and could surprise.

So ... I say ... get our boys out there ... get the ball ... LET US PLAY THE GAME ... and don't be too surprised when we do well!!! :)

Good lord you all. Have you ever heard Lou Holtz pregame speeches? He tells the whole media they'll be lucky to stay within 3 touchdowns of his opponents. Its just a strategy to get the team motivated. You all read so much into so little.

Unlike old Lou though, Keller didn't spray spit all over the screen. Key...key difference.
