GolTV showed just a couple of minutes The TVGuide had Telefutura showing 30 minutes of inauguration ceremony. Telefutura showed about 8-10 minutes total. and during the inauguration ceremony Telefutura interviewed 2 singers for about 20 minutes. Did they self-censor themselves to not show the inauguration? Did they not want to show something positive about Venezuela? I'm really mad about this and would like to know your opinion .
How long was it suppose to be?...i tuned in to telefutura and they showed people singing and dancing...even chavez was playing with maradona
It is very possible. I didn't think about that since you just brought it up now. I remember they showed all of the Inauguration of the Peru 2004 Copa. I think this time around it was a lot less organized though, that might have something to do with it.
What do you mean with that? make it clear? I was able to watch it through TV-Venezuela (DirecTV) and I watched about 25 minutes of it. Lots of dancers on the field, singing, fireworks, etc. I think Telefutura and GolTV didn't even show Conmebol's president giving a speech saying that the tournament has started
It wasn't Mexican enough, unfortunately I dont have TV Venezuela and couldn't watch the Inaguration. They showed a the little girl singi the cut it off after that and like a minute of the Joropo-Contrapunteo. I really wanted to see the contrapunteo. Hope I can find a torrent.
There was very little of interest to show. It was pretty much singing, dancing, a bit of color. A good 10 minutes or so was just Maradona walking around with Chavez, hugging a few players and taking pictures. Gol TV showed the ceremonial kick-off between Chavez and Diego. I wouldn't read much into not broadcasting all 30 minutes of it.
We are gonna have to do a survey to see how many people think that the inauguration ceremony is one of the most important things in a international tournament. Sometime soon, the videos should be in Youtube and I/we can post it here.
And now, what Telefutura and GolTV didn't want you to see: Happy people in Venezuela Copa America Inauguration Part 1: (20 minutes long) Copa America Inauguration Part 2: (20 minutes long)
horrible production overall. I don't think it was on purpose. In Telefutura, at the end of the night, they had Bolivia and Venezuela with 2 points each in the table standings That pretty much says it all.
The least they can do is say: "We are having some technical problems bla bla bla" Aren't this the same people that show: - World Cup - Copa Oro - Mexican soccer league I haven't seen them having this problem before Did anybody outside of the US watch the inauguration ceremony?
I think you're taking this US - Venezuela tension thing way more seriously than it needs to be taken... to the point of paranoia really. Nobody in the tv business gives a damn about South American politics. It's far more likely that they cut the ceremony because they figured that audiences wouldn't care either or they wanted to use it for ad time (if they even did cut it, nobody here actually seems to have watched the thing).
From what I been reading the inaguration ceremony was extremely low quality and an embarrasment (I heard this from Venezuelans themselves). A lot of it was propaganda with like a hundred shots of Chave's face as we was walking around. Shame on Chavez for turning Copa America Political. Shame..
Here in AZ Telefutura has effed up every single Gold Cup game that included anyone but Mexico. I believe that if it doesn't include Mexico they will not cover it fully including into the Copa America. Every US game was tape delayed for an hour, but when the time slot did role around they began coverage with the second half live. So in other words they only showed the second half of all games except where Mexico was included. Luckily I have FSC, but unluckily Cox doesn't carry GolTV here! I've put in several calls to the station because they do the same with MLS games. I don't know how to complain any further.
Well as long as they stay happy I guess, because let's face it, if they're not, there's nothing they can do about it now anyway. The coverage sucked because Telefutura sucks
1.- Do you think the stations have nothing better to show? I watched it in Sky UK and they indeed only show few seconds of the girl singing and then from the bit when Chavez came into the pitch until the end. It was not very well organized, as we can tell from the long time the teams waited standing there and then waiting for KO. Apart from that, I understand the stations only got the information about this opening ceremony (and the 20 minutes+ delay in KOT) yesterday. So, no much time to prepare. 2.- If you can not find the videos, just watch the opening ceremony of the Panamerican 1983 games again. They have not moved forward much since then. The bloody "barra humana" still exists, even in North Korea they have got rid of it nowadays.
I'm in China now and CCTV-5 didn't show most of the inauguration. Maybe the Chinese also don't want to show Venezuelans being happy.
Why was the first game played before the opening ceremony? GOLTV did the smart thing. They did their URU-PER post game comments while the ceremony was going on, and then showed the highlights of the ceremony. If the first game had not already been played, then they probably would have shown the entire ceremony. I didn't catch the Telefutura coverage last night, but I'm pretty sure they did the same thing as GOLTV (Tonight is Telefutura night for me). The links to the complete ceremonies prove once again that opening ceremonies are meaningless events anyways, what everybody wants to see are the games. We the fans understand that we have to put up with them to let the organizers (the money) to get their 15 minutes of fame.
......Naive! Naivete! Naively! How else do you hear who the enemies are? Until television tells you who to despise how do you know?
that's how it always is in Copa America. The first game is played, then comes the ceremony and then the main game featuring the host country.
The irony of the initial claim of this thread is that in Venezuela nobody saw the last 15 minutes of the Uruguay-Peru match (unless they had satellite or cable) because the opening ceremony was shown with "cadena" coverage and it started before the first match was competed. As a sports fan, I find the "censorship" of the games much more offensive than the "censorship" of the opening ceremony.
