I'm not going to the game as tickets are ********ing insanely priced, but I do plan on making the FanFest at the Moscone Center and some friends and I are talking about maybe renting a boat to hang out on the bay for beers and the after-game fireworks.

What are Maines numbers? Havent seen much of him this season.

Anyone think baseball should do away with the one rep for every team thing?

    John Maine is 9-4, 2.74.

I've thought baseball should get away from the one representative for every team bit since they got past 24 clubs. But I guess that rule ensures fans of every team will watch the game to see their own players. It's a simple way to maximize the TV audience.

Impressive, I'd still have voted for Young, but certainly Maine should be on the ballot.

Chris Young (Padres) and Hideki Okajima (Red Sox) won the Final Vote. The Red Sox have six players on the A.L. roster, the most of any team.

John Smoltz has withdrawn because of an injury and is being replaced by Roy Oswalt.

I'm talking about Maine over Oswalt. I agree that young should go before Maine but he should have at least been on the list.

Besides, WHIP is not a real stat. It's some bullshit fantasy mark.

A.L. beats the N.L., 5-4. The A.L. is unbeaten over the last 11 years, 10 wins and 1 tie. The A.L. is 16-3-1 over the last 20 years.

All-time record: National League 41, American League 35, 2 ties.

Ichiro Suzuki was MVP. Strong rumors the Mariners will be re-signing him any day now for 5 years, $90-100 million.

Aaron Rowan over Albert Pujols with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th and bases loaded down by 1? Really?

    Thanks LaRussa.

Billy Wagner blew the game. It's that simple.

Coming up small when it matters, as usual.

2007 runners on two outs: Pujols 313-593-563
    Rowand 393-477-661

    vs RH: Pujols 318-393-500
    Rowand 318-396-536

    at night: Pujols 300-377-441
    Rowand 297-405-450

    against K Rod, career Pujols 0-1, K 1 PA
    Rowand 0-0 no appearances

depending on what the defense would be if we only tied-- Rowand can play center but Pujols can play third-- I'd use Rowand too.

Soriano has played 12 games in center field this year, and Pujols has 269 career appearances in left field. Could have gone with a Pujols/Soriano/Holliday outfield. Holliday was playing right despite never playing right field in his MLB career.

Lineup at the end of the game:

    Hardy SS
    D. Lee 1B
    Hudson 2B
    Rowand CF
    Sanchez 3B
    Holliday RF
    McCann C
    D. Young PH
    Soriano LF

Thanks-- didn't see the game and wasn't going to try to reconstruct that from the box score...

If there's a defensive alignment available in the event of a tie whichever you send to the plate, I'd use Rowand too, and that was my point. Sometimes I think LaRussa's nuts, but not often and not this time...

Thankfully you arent a manager then.

It's a no brainer only an idiot or someone who totally lost it for one play would be able to F up.

What defense are you going to to need when he wins the game?

Saving one of the top 3 hitters in baseball so your defense doesn't have to be to make-shift(wouldnt want to have to "manage"), here's the catch you are losing and in your last at bat, moron.

    Oh, but thanks.

Repeating/ clarifying-- the ONLY reason I wouldn't use Rowand is if I was going to need Pujols for defense if we were to only score one. The reason why I WOULD use Rowand is in the situational stats I posted earlier-- Rowand is a little the better hitter in this situation, at least this year... and the more likely to drive in two...

And keep in mind that while there was only one previous PA against Rodriguez, it was Pujols', it was a K, and LaRussa saw it which I did not and I bet you did not. So it may have been that LaRussa didn't like how that K went and wasn't sanguine about that particular matchup...

So my point is-- no brainers often aren't, especially in baseball. Often you need to actually have looked at the specific question and used your brain-- instead of your assumptions.
