Haha, it would be absolutely crazy if the US and Mexico ended up playing in the Copa final :p or even in any point during the competition. According to Wikipedia, the US and Mexico have only played each other three times in the same year twice, in 1937 and 1997.

See, they should have held it in Giants Stadium. The Swamp is loaded with bathrooms, all designed for multi-tasking. Just goes to show that Chicago is piss-poor compared to Jersey. :D

You underestimate the depth of denial in the Mexican NT psyche.

On the actual topic of the miss, as against the took wearers it almost cost us dearly. He could have literally dribbled it in, yet somehow screwed it up so horribly. It's the same casual attitude that cost us several times this tournament. Almost a pompous approach instead of a killer, aggressive assasins instinct. Our players need to learn to be ruthless, merciless and clinical. There's no excuse for professionals missing so many sitters.

lol, since most of the people using the bathroom just wanted to take a piss since they drank so much beer, there used to be up to 3 at once. One pissing in the zinc, the other in the garbage, and the other in the toilet.

I refused to go in when there were other people, especially since i wanted to take a sh*t.

Hopefully we do meet up and we can finally win. I might be able to take a few more lossed to the U.S. in friendlies, but in a Copa America i wont be able to take it.

I think the U.S. played better than Mexico for the majority of the game. I don't buy the claim by the clown who says "Mexico played better for the first 50 minutes," or whatever he said along those lines.

Because that's just the way i was raised. I was raised amongst mexican soccer fans.

It doesn't matter if we loose all the time, thats not going to stop me from supporting Mexico.

Back during the '94 Cup there was an old guy at work who was really proud about the Republic of Ireland team. He knew all about Jackie Charleton, their manager -- an Englishman who was worthy of being Irish, in his eyes -- and all the players. He was born in the US, but had relatives in Ireland, and he had no real interest in soccer in general or the US team, but he was all shamrocks and Guiness when it came to the Ireland side.

After the World Cup he was back in his groove: Yankees baseball and Giants football. But he continued to jaw about the Ireland team for well into the next year -- and that from a Yank.

Our country is just the wierdest place on earth when it comes to soccer.

Geez!!! Give this tired debate a freaking REST. Might as well talk about promo/releg in MLS and the return of the Cosmos. I *would* add "Beckham to MLS" to the list, but that actually came true. ;)

Yes, Hugo. Continue to believe the team played better (for a half plus, at least). That you played great throughout the tournament. And that everything was the fault of the referees, the stadiums, the alignment of the planets, and whatever other excuse you can dream up.

As long as you continue to believe that, you can ignore that you're 2-9-1 in your last dozen games against the Americans, that you haven't won up here since the 20th century, that you've fallen behind a country that didn't have professional level league until 11 years ago and where the soccer remains an unpopular niche sport. Keep thinking that and Mexico will remain the team of the future - and always will be.

    Thanks Hugo.

Everyone should stop bitchin' about everything and just enjoy the game. Mexico played great for a portion of the game and the United States rebounded and overcame their goal deficit. The fact is the game could have gone either way. I wouldn't look too much into post game comments because it is in the heat of the moment. The whole Concacaf superiority debate should be dropped cuz the fact is that both teams play well at times and both teams play crappy at times. Mexico has four Gold Cups and so does the US. The way i see it is that they will always be neck and neck. With that i congratulate the United States and Mexico for playing a fairly clean game and for Salcido exchanging jerseys with Donovan. I wish both teams luck in the Copa America.

el chingon, here is a crazy idea....

If the United States is giving you the opportunity to have a better life, the least you could do is root for the National Team here. :)

I think hugo has a point. I am a neutral fan and I taught mexico was the better team I see people posting the U.S should of won 3 or 4 -1 but forget Bautista and Castillo should bury their chance and if the Ref could give a B.S penalty one way he could of give one on gooch. All in all I saw a great game today and Congrates to UMNT supporters.

If Mexico had female astronauts, perhaps you would have read some news stories about adult diapers! :D

My question is: why are people playing FIFA 07 when Pro Evolution Soccer 2007 is out there?

there were some real tools at Soldier Field, but most of the mexicans near me were polite, passionate, and shook hands and spoke well of our team after the game... i think they are starting to get the fact that we are, at a minimum, on pretty equal terms right now.

Hugo can bitch all he wants, his antics alone make this series entertaining...

You couldn't hear people chanting "U-S-A" at the beginning of the game, but you could at the end... thats all the matters.

Why do we keep focusing on it? Because the stupid comments made by the mexicans after we beat them, yet again, is all part of the fun. I love reading the denial.

Even you (though you concede more then the average fan of the 2nd best team in CONCACAF) are still in denial. “The fact is the game could have gone either way.” It didn’t, and it hasn’t for a decade now.

Everyone should stop bitchin' about everything and just enjoy the game.” Is this comment for US supporters or for mexican coaches, players, and fans?

“The way i see it is that they will always be neck and neck.” Is 9-2-1 really neck and neck? That seems pretty one sided to me. They only seem to be close because they both beat up on the smaller teams in the area.

Though you recognize how good the US is more then your countrymen (or your neighbors to the south), you still view these games through El-Tri colored glasses of denial.

Your 2nd best, live with it.

07 is a huge step forward for the FIFA series. As a committed PES/WE guy I prefer it to the latest PES.

Each has it's strengths and weaknesses, but at the very least the gap has closed. A discussion for another board though.

I can't think of one really bad call the whole game. When we play Mexico it reminds me of Germany pre WC 2006. We may not control the flow but we get the result and that is all that counts.

The only really bad call went aganist Canada. I felt bad for them. I never feel bad for Mexico because of the way they behave towards us. And one more thing:

I am pro imigration and have many Mexican freinds but the way the fans, who mostly live and work here, behave towards us in our own country makes me sick. I just get such a thrill out of us beating them for that reason more then anything else. May we never act that way no matter how good we might become someday.

The reason they continue to lose to us is this kind of thinking. They are in constant denial that the US has caught up to them. Let them continue to think this, it will prevent them from improving and will help us solidify ourselves as the Kings of Concacaf.

I wont put a length of time on "Mexico playing better" but make no mistake, that IS the first time this entire Gold Cup the Mexican team played like the Mexican team we know of, all other games they played with no where near the passion, pace and precision. Unlike the US who seem to be peaking as they went on...
