sad but probably true. i support both as well as a handful of others that post in both areas. we are very hungry for this win. i really hope thinsg work out. if we can just get through your defence, i don't think we'll have an issue. but, that is exactly what guadeloupe did to us and we were stuck. however, scoring on those early chances, they were able to play their game. if we can just shut down ruiz, i don't think we'll have too much of a problem. but we need our offence firing on all cylinders. good luck to you guys too.
Its probably because many Canadian fans haven't been able to watch a MNT match live in the last ten years. Maybe if our team occasionally played a match in Canada they'd get more support. That said, as a fan of the MNT and of TFC the MNT comes first for me.
If Germany ever Faced Canada i would cheer for Germany hands down sorry but IMO the country where you came from originally is more imprtant
so if you were born in canada and you lived in germany, you would cheer for canada first then? does the support change by how many years you have lived in each country? just curious. okay to tie this back into canada vs. guatemala... i hope canada kicks some ass! 1-0 canucks!
What about any sport?? How about the Olympics, Winter or Summer. Each time a Canadian goes up against a German, you cheer for Germany?? That's somewhat irksome.
What if Canada and Germany were squaring off in the final of the annual scheisse film festival, who would you cheer for?
For me it's like this: Canadian Men's Hockey Toronto Maple Leafs Canadian Men's Soccer Canadian Junior Hockey Toronto FC Canadian Men's Basketball France Men's Soccer
The topic of this thread is "CANADA VS GUATEMALA (R) JUNE 16 pre/PBP/POST". Lets stick to that please.
looks like friend is out for tomorrow's clash. getting married.... doesn't he understand what's mor eimportant? lol Friend lost for Gold Cup clash June 15, 2007 Canada will need the offence of Dwayne De Rosario against Guatemala. On the same day that Canada plays Guatemala for a berth in the Gold Cup semi-finals, striker Rob Friend will be at home getting married. "He's out. He's getting married," said Canadian head coach Stephen Hart on Friday. Friend has been battling a hip injury the whole tournament, but his outright absence from the lineup might force Hart to make a few changes on Saturday. "I think we will play quite similar, we might have a little changes here or there, but we'll have a similar shape. How we approach certain players on their team will be where the difference is." One player coach Hart highlighted as a potential threat is FC Dallas striker Carlos Ruiz. Nicknamed 'El Pescadito' (the little fish), Ruiz was responsible for the goal against Trinidad & Tobago that allowed his country to advance out of the group stage. As a rookie with Los Angeles, Ruiz led MLS with 24 goals in 2002. "You have to be careful of him, he is clinical in his finishing. The player wide right Avila (Marvin Tomas) has been doing very well for them, so you have to be aware." Canada earned a pair of wins in their three group stage matches, but looked very vulnerable in the loss against the lesser-known Guadeloupe. Guatemala present a similar challenge; a 1-0 win over El Salvador ended the Central American country's 11-year winless streak in 15 Gold Cup games. They finished the group stage at 1-1-1, losing to the US and earning a draw with T&T. "We've watched them play and we know they play a strong defensive game with a quick counter-attack, so we have to be very cautious of being hit with that counter-attack. We cannot throw ourselves forward blindly into their defensive net." Injuries have played a major part in Canada's current Gold Cup run. According to Hart, goalkeeper Greg Sutton is still suffering from an earlier concussion sustained during training, and will not be in the lineup Saturday. "Sutton is still suffering from his concussion symptoms, so more than likely it will be Onstad who starts." Canada and Guatemala are no strangers on the field, the two countries last met in a pair of 2004 World Cup qualifiers. Guatemala won the first meeting 2-0 thanks to a pair of goals from Ruiz, but a few months later in Guatemala City a Dwayne De Rosario goal was enough to earn the win. Viewers can catch the game live Saturday, June 16 at 1:00 p.m. (ET)/ 10:00 a.m. (PT) on Sportsnet East and Sportsnet Pacific for viewers with access to all four Sportsnet channels only.
Wow, OK so you all prefer to watch other soccer games or sports. BACK TO THE THREAD. For those of you who have rogers digital and who live in Toronto (or even those who don't) what channel will this game air? Or, could you tell me the network/broadcaster? Thanks!
It will be live on RSN East and Pacific if you have digital cable. Also, i believe GolTv will be showing it live as well.
I'm confused. I thought the game was starting at 1pm ET. I looked up GOL TV (428) at 1pm on Saturday it doesn't say GUATE VS CAN. I just checked now, and 403-406 (or something like that) is playing the game at 4pm ET. Does the game start at 1pm ET or 4 pm ET, or is that game taped?
1ET. Canada supporters be aware that Saturday's Gold Cup quarter final matches will be carried live nation wide on GolTV. Canada vs Guatemala is scheduled to kick-off at 1 PM EST followed by the USA vs Panama match at 4 PM EST. For channel information relative to GolTV visit www.goltvcanada.com. Rogers SportsNet digital subscribers will also be able to watch Canada live on their digital East or Pacific channel depending on your broadcast region.
If anyone from Ottawa is interested a few of us will be meeting at the lieutenants Pub on Elgin to watch this. Squad has been rested and the temperature will be in the 20s so should not be a factor. Friend's absence will cause a reshuffle but hopefully it does not disturb the chemistry that is starting to develop in midfield.
Well I figure the game will start tight, and then slowly, some momentum will build up one way or the other. Unless somebody gets lucky early, and then it'll be more see-saw... It's really a big game for Canada, and it's within their reach. A shootout will be uhm... rather disturbing to watch ...
