I have no idea about that one way or the other, but for clarity's sake, the article actually said "a Donovan favorite," which doesn't single Johnson out as "the" Donovan favorite, or rather, Donovan's only favorite.

 

I think he said "a" favorite...not "the" favorite.

What's Landon supposed to say? "I hate playing with EJ?" That would certainly add to his popularity here

 

Frank Dell'Apa also said that Eddie Johnson came on as a substitute in both Gold Cup games thus far, so I don't think we can put too much stock into what he says.

Generally, his columns on ESPN SoccerNet lead me to believe that he doesn't watch a whole lot of soccer.

No, they lead me to believe he doesn't put half as much into them as he does his pieces for the Globe (boston.com) which are usually high quality. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say he doesn't get paid half as much for his ESPN.com pieces.

Whatever happened to "Hard C" aka Marc Connolly by the way?
