Injuries, along with Arsenal, will stop Liverpool. They don't have the depth that Arsenal has. I don't want to discount ManU either, but I really don't think they'll have it this year. Sir Alex is letting his ego get in the way.
If the past two seasons are any indication, Liverpool will stop Liverpool. Remember that the Reds have a decent record against Man Yoo and Arse, but lost matches to weaker clubs in the Premiership. Hope that changes this season.
This is very true, but Fergie has tried to buy a treble this time and I don't think it will work. He won't admit that he ruined his side by getting rid of Stam. He didn't need to spend the money on Veron, either. There are still many pieces to Man U's puzzle that are missing. Liverpool is a better side than Man U.
I wouldn't agree that Liverpool are bettrer, despite the fact I like Liverpool and hate manyoo. Man U have an excellent team: Barthez Silvestre Ferdinand Brown Neville Giggs Butt Keane Beckham Solskaer Nilsterooy And look at their depth(exclude forwards): Veron(name me a team that has a player of veron calibre on the bench!) Scholes P. Neville Blanc Fortune
You can make a case for plenty of teams doing it, and at best Liverpool are the third best team going into the season. Individual players DO NOT make teams, by the way, as any Liverpool supporter should know. All their great successes, as well as those of more or less every great team, have resulted from eleven players and not a few individuals, winning things collectively. The fact is that Arsenal more or less ran away with it last year and they may be stronger this time around. Manure won it before that, and I think we can bet our mortgages that they will be stronger. Diouf looks a good player, but we have no idea how we will cope in a new league, Owen is oft injured, and at some point the predictable Heskey style is going to be nullified. Leeds under Venables will be thereabouts, and there may even be one or two others in the running two (Newcastle, and don't underestimate a couple of dark horses as well). I think it more likely, personally, that Liverpool will finish fifth than first, though they should be in the top four.
hahahha yeah okay fool! LFC are the 2nd best team going into this season, that is just fact. and there is more chance of us winning it then coming 5 th behind Leeds and Newcastle. you know *************** about football.
Look at other teams attack trio: Henry, Bergkamp, Kanu Forlan, Nilsterooy, Solskaer Dyer, Shearer, Cort Viduka, Kewell, Keane Liverpool's are definitely on the same page as those, plus they have other awesome players, like Dudek, Hyypia, Henchoz, Hamann, and Gerrard. They are right behind arsenal, about equal with manyoo(forlan drags them down) better than Newcastles and about equal with Leeds also. A forward trio that I think could explode this season is Duff, Cole, and Yorke. Blackburn could easily finish in the top ten this season, with friedel the miracle worker.
Dyer, Shearer and Cort? Cort will be injured. Bellamy, though, now there's an attatcker! Shearer and the rest of the Magpies won't do as well this year, though. Obviously Liverpool can be beaten by ManU and Arse. The idea of Liverpool running away with anything at this point is silly. That doesn't mean it can't happen. But if no one besides Owen can step up and put them into the back of the net, they're going to have a tough time. As for ManU, stop talking about them having a terrible defense. They still allowed less goals than most of the teams in the EPL. And they scored tons. They don't need a major defensive rehaul, especially if they keep scoring left and right. A few less goals, some better form from Veron, and they'll make it look easy.
And from what I hear, Baros has impressed in preseason friendlies. We shall see, I suppose. Seriously though, I wouldn't be surprised to see Liverpool finish anywhere from 1 to 4.
what are you laughing at? whenever Jari got his 15 minutes on the field he produced more than that pillock Veron ever did...
well he was crap for Argentina in the world cup too, and thats for a team that plays to his strengths too...
You can compile a list if potential deficiencies for any team, throughout the league (in fact, they did that very same thing very well in the Observer yesterday). For example, United are fielding their worst defence since the early 1970's, plus Rio Ferdinand. As the next month may show, injury to their latest expensively acquired toy could cost them dearly. Then there’s Veron - he is a fine player but fine players don’t always make it everywhere they play. Ian Rush found that out at Juventus. Then add the fact that Demento has spent the entire time Veron has been at the club visibly struggling to work out what to do with his impulse buy and shows no signs of having solved that conundrum. Then there’s Diego Forlan - I mean, he was bought to fill Andy Cole’s place, but the imitation thus far has been a bit TOO good. Right down to the enduring love affair with Row G. Arsenal are a very classy side with strength throughout, but with Ljundberg, van Bronkhurst and Pires out, they will need very solid performances from the stand-ins and the new boys if they are to get good momentum early. As to the likely top three, I don't think anyone will break into it as it is currently established, but within that top three any team could end up in any position. Liverpool still have work to do to play with the same level of consistent authority that Arsenal and the Rags but it is within our means to do it.
I have to pretty much agree with this post. If we can stay with the leaders up until Pires and Ljungberg come back then I think we can kick on from there. Watching Liverpool yesterday, I thought they were a bit one-dimensional. I know it's ironic coming from an Arsenal fan, but I thought the only real danger was from set-pieces. Apart from one slick passing move in the first half, it was hoofing it up for Heskey to try and win in the air or Owen to latch onto over the top. Good defenders will cope with this easily. I can't see where the inspiration in midfield will come from such as a Pires who drove us on to the title last year.
Not always true, how many key players did Arsenal lose for long periods of last season due to injury or suspension? I think it's vital to have a big squad if you want to win the league but that is not all you need. You also need a good team spirit in which even the lesser players can step in for an injured star and perform above their normal expected levels. It also helps to have a bit of good luck as well.
