Just read an article listing 10 great FA Cup finals. Brings back some great memories - well worth a read. The link is http://www.midfielddynamo.com/cups/facup.htm
The thought of Bury facing Notts County in the final is just that - a thought. Bury played, and beat, Derby 6-0 that season. I'm pretty sure it's also the final where the clubs were the closest in terms of league position, separated only by goal difference.
I think there are a few missing off that list. Liverpools last year must be included? Gerrards winner was the stuff of fairy tales.....
Um.... did you read the list????? Liverpool 3-3 West Ham is #2 on the list... behind only Blackpool - Bolton 1953. The second ever FA Cup final I watched was I believe in 1989 (the first being Wimnbledon vs. Pool) .. Liverpool 3-2 Everton after extra time. Aldridge and Rush (2 in extra time) were the scorers cancelling out a Stuart McCall double. I remember that was quite a game - especially in extra time. I guess the fact that not much really happened in regular time cancelled this match out.
1989 was a great game, but i think what happened last year could've pushed it off the list. but if it was me, the top 3 would be 1953 as the best followed by 1973 THEN 2006.
I wonder if todays final will get added to the list. Seriously though, I am really looking forward to this game. More than any other FA cup final I can remember.
Safely say it wasnt the one yesterday, that was a fixed sham. It has to be the Coventry vs Spurs final, Keith Hauchen with that beautiful header..
Now your talking. I remember watching it and it was a great game. A great way to get our only trophy.
