'87s playing in Europe (R)

    The USYSA has sent an all-star team of '87 players to Holland for a tournament against Dutch youth club teams.

    Robbie Rogers scored a goal against Ajax in a friendly earlier this week, but there is no final score listed in the report.

    There were three players (Rodrigo Hidalgo, Stephen Sandbo, Marcus Rein) from Bradenton that were not selected to the team.

    Also, the USSF will send an '87 team to the Mundialito Salerno in Italy next month. This is one of the best youth tournaments in the world. The USA has been drawn into a group with Italy and Germany. We'll face the hosts in the opener. The other group features Japan, France, and Finland. There is usually television coverage of these games in Italy.

    The '87 All-Stars finished third at the Veldhoven tournament according to the USYSA website. They finished the tour with 7 wins, 2 ties, 0 losses.

    The 87 All Star Team was without their top 2 goalies from residency. Both were selected to the All Star team however Stephen Sandbo stayed behind in Bradington to prepare for the U17 Korean tournament and Marcus Rein is injured. The team going to Italy in June is mainly made up of 88's with about 6 87's from residency since it is a U16 event.

    So this guy is playing in Mexico now? Or is this just a nostalgically named club team in the US?

    It says he plays for California North, so that means he lives and plays in Cali...so its either a nostalgically named team...or he is gonna move to mexico...

    Strange, Chivas usually only takes Mexican players or those of Mexican ancestry.

    I wonder how many of these kids got offers? If I were them, I'd be looking to brush up on my Dutch. :)
