All he does is juggle (although it is really good juggling).

Would have liked to see how he plays in a game.

Nice to see he's two footed though!

I've seen that kid play...he's not too shabby. Then again, I may be biased, as he IS my son. ;-)

I was surprised when my brother-in-law emailed me with this link--pretty cool to see KJ's link on Big Soccer! Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Hey Keoni can you give us a little info on your son, he's a great dribbler but how's his play. What position does he play, how old currently, any aspirations for pro soccer or just enjoying the game, any ODP, sorry for so many questions, anyway he's awesome looks like he's having fun as well.

that uni he is wearing in the video sure looks a lot like a DC United kit. I say we should use a discovery on this kid now!

Re: 9 year old Hawiian kid has some sick skills

    Hi again, guys,

Thanks for asking. Guy Keoni Ahlo, Jr. aka "KJ", is now 11 years old, '95-born. He was recently invited to the ODP mock camp here in Hawaii, so yes, he'll be pursuing that opportunity. He is a true lefty, plays center mid, anywhere on top, and in the back only when we really need his help (when we play up). Intense work ethic and desire to win. I know, winning is not everything, but try explaining that to him ;-)

Here are a few of his recent accomplishments:

    • 2007 State Championship team, U11 Boys
    • 2006 State Championship team, U10 Boys
    • 2007 Iolani School Futsal Tournament Champions
    • Surf Cup 2005, 2006
    • 2005 Chula Vista Rangers Tournament Champions
    • 2005 Hawaii Invitational Cup Champions
    • Guest player for San Diego Crusaders U10 Boys
    • Joga Bonito Hawaii nationally ranked #1 in the state of Hawaii
    • 10,000+ juggles without dropping the ball, about 1-1/2 hours straight
    • Recently chosen to join a select team from Hawaii to play in Japan (July '07)

Other than that, he loves the game. We watch about 2-3 games a week on FSC and Fox Espanol. His current faves are Carlos Tevez and Christiano Renaldo (quick feet). He also recently won the intramural cross-country race for 5th-graders here in central Oahu (1st in about 60 entries).

    Aloha,
    Keoni

Hopefully he dedicates at least as much time to shooting as he does to juggling.

    The USA needs finishers.

This is where everyone gets confused. It is suppose to mean a lot to young players. It's not suppose to mean much to the youth coaches who coach them. It is when the kid's game become the adult's game that there are problems.

But it is OK for adults (including parents) to be proud of their players' accomplishments. :)

Re: 9 year old Hawiian kid has some sick skills

I was a little impressed at the beginning because of his age, but then it got a little monotonous. Just as I was going to quit about 70% through the clip, he started showing some foot skills and shooting. Quick feet and finishing. THAT is what impressed me more than the juggling.

Sure, he's only 9, but he showed good concentration, good balance, and a sweet left foot. Let's see how he is doing in 4 years when he's 15. :)

Keoni, best of luck to you and KJ. Be sure to keep us informed with news about his progress and make sure he practices with his right foot too! :)

Re: 9 year old Hawiian kid has some sick skills

    Thanks, Captain10!

KJ does work hard at his footwork skills...juggling is just a release for him to goof around and get some touches on the ball. I hope that he continues to play through college and beyond. And yes, he works on his right foot a lot, but I always think he should do more ;-) I guess that's the coach, er, dad in me.

    Aloha,
    Keoni

Uhh...can Bradley Cap this kid now just in case he has a parent or grandparent from another country he could play for instead? (i.e.: Rossi) :p

Oh and could you and your wife/GF get to work on making about 10 more sons who will eventually have his skills? Ahlo National team? :p
