Re: UEFA Cup Final 2007 - RCD Espanyol de Barcelona Vs. FC Sevilla

Yeah but those penalties were really poorly taken. Especially the one after Pandiani scored. Just out of curiosity... how come Walter Pandiani did not start?????? Is he not Espanyol's leading goalscorer?

Anyhoo... I wanted Espanyol to win because they were the underdogs but nevertheless... congradulations Sevilla and look forward to seeing you in the champions league next year.

Enhorabuena a los sevillistas y también a los pericos. Ha sido una final cojonuda. Muy grandes los dos y un orgullo para todos los españoles.

So another great European night in Glasgow comes to a conclusion. In the UK, ITV4 commentator Peter Drury said that Seville wouldn't defend the trophy next year because they are in (or likely to be in) the Champions League. They could, of course, lose at some stage and be "relegated" to the UEFA Cup so a "threepeat" (to use an interesting Americanism) could be on the cards.

Sevilla are currently in third place in LA Liga... assuming they don't overtake either Barca or Real Madrid - they will most likely finish 3rd or 4th in the league meaning they will qualify for the champions league final preliminary match. If they win that, they are through to the champions league, if not, it's back in the Euro Cup. Even if they qualify for the champions league, yet fail to qualify for the round of 16 and finish 3rd in their group, they still get thrown into the Euro cup knockout rounds. This is why the Euro Cup gets a bad rep.... but anyhoo... congrats Seville and once again - good luck next season - regardless of which competition you're in. :p

In England there are the the four permemant ones[Chelsea, Man United, Arsenal, Liverpool], while in Spain there are only three [Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia] and once every few years a fourth team comes along and meddles in the titel hunt.

In recent years it has been, Deportivo, Real Sociedad, Villareal and now Sevilla.

That was a great final. I feel a bit sorry for Espanyol and Raul Tamudo. They were doing really well until Moises screwed up.

Would just like to say a big thanks to both sides and both sets of fans. Not only did they give Glasgow a great match but the supporters were excellent ambassadors for their country. Despite the rain I had a superb time in George Square and Merchant City. Hope you all enjoyed Glasgow as much as we enjoyed having you!!!
