That doesn't make it a higher quality competition. You could host the Oceania Championships on a pitch make of broken glass, it may well be tough but it isn't harder to win than the World Cup. The altitudes, travel and passionate crowds affect all the teams in the Libertadores, so it cancels out.

Also Newcastle lost at home to Birmingham in the cup, 5-1. The same Birmingham who last season lost 7-0 to Liverpool who were reigning European champions at the time. Maybe we should say 'Only in the Premiership'?

League 2 is tougher to win than the English Premiership in the sense that you only have a 1 in 24 chance of winning league 2 and odds of winning the Premiership is 1 in 20.

So which is tougher to win between CL and Libertadores? Add that to the stinkin, steaming pile of crap arguments put forward in this thread.

No one cares what the toughest tournament is, what people want is the highest quality. i have seen libertadores matches where the only thing to be kicked in 90 mins are opposing players, the referees spend the entire match sending players off, and then the game is called off anyway due to crowd rioting. this is not a tounament worth bragging about.

like i said, toughness does not equal quality. and there is no way any club in south america is even half as good as barca, no matter how many one off ties the two sides play.

given how barcelona is playing nowadays i would bet money that either boca or river can beat them...hell if getafe can hammer them 4-0

Do you follow South American football? No? Then shut the ******** up.

This is laughable. You ranting on about yet another thing you are completely clueless about. Classic lost/Karloski.

lol Barcelona lost to Internacional of Brasil.

you know how bad that Internacional team is? They lost key players since they won the Libertadores and still beat Barcelona. Yet in the Copa libertadores, they were knocked out in the first round. So apparently, there are at least 16 teams better then a team that beat Internacional

Copa Libertadores is more grueling. UEFA CL has better overall quality. Which is better? Obviously the answer depends on what team you support and what kind of football appeals to you.

In other words, this argument is retarded even by this forum's standards.

I told you. 3 english teams in the semi finals, everyone saying it was the strongest league, so my nice bet on AC Milan has cheered me up.

Yet again nothing for english clubs.

I love the premiership but hopefully the nonsense about it being the strongest might end.

Re: Still think premiership is the best league?

    agreed!

    Thats insane!

3 teams dont show how powerfull the entire premiership is! They only show upper class in the top zone.

    Exactly!

England relies on Money, vs in Spain they relie on the weather and style of football.

    I

Agian like u said before, two teams dont make the league stronger. the gap in between Spanish teams is really close.
Now look at the gap in between Premiership 4 top teams and the rest...........Is like if almost those 4 teams were playing in a second division league. The gap is huge, Besides the the top 4, the Premiership has no power. They would actually be at the same level as the Scottish league or less.

    TOP to BOTTOM

    LA LIGA is better....

I find the EPL boring, except maybe manutd because of cristiano and his tricks. La Liga the title is still down to the wire..

i can't believe people say La Liga is better from top to bottom because the league table is closer.

This is true, but the reason it is closer than in the other leagues is not because the mid level teams are better. It is because the elite teams (Real madrid, valencia, barcelona) are worse than the elite teams in the EPL and SErie A

check bert kassis site, he has more up to date readings. overall, england is closest since 85 to being back at no 1. at the rate we are improving we will be there very, very soon. (silly anwyay, a uefa team plays 15 matches against minnows, and a cl side plays only 12 games against quality, and the uefa cup sides regularly get 3-5 sides into the 'top 10 sides in uefa', ever since 2003/4 season, which is ridiuclous, as how can a mid table side who plays minnows be the equal of a side finnishes far higher in the league and plays much tougher opponents with much bigger/better squads in europe.)

    http://www.xs4all.nl/~kassiesa/bert/uefa/data/method3/crank2008.html

this is where we are at the moment. pity that spain is still on top, in points, even though we know that at the top, spains clubs really cant match the best from england. this year alone we had more semi finalists than la liga has had in three whole seasons, and in the last 3 seasons we have had as many semi finalists as spain has had in 6 seasons.

so, italy in third place, this should get worse as juves coefficient diminishes even further, england and spain are close enough to make it a very interesting battle for supremacy. we have the money, but they have this knack of always staying just ahead over the past few years, cant wait for 2007-2008, especially as we will further cement the fact that we have the best players in the world playing in our league.

calm down..it's all about opinion and tastes....

kinda of like english with their longballs...while brazilians look at them as pointless.

    ALL OPINION...

La Liga play is similar to what I saw in the brasil campeonato..I see players in EPL with having little technique(excludign the foreigners)...

    Barcelona worst than Arsenal? hahahaha
Valencia worst than Man U? I dont think Man U could beat them!
Sevilla worst than Liverpool? Will see!
Real Madrid worst than Chelsea? 50/50

    Who else does England have!

Tottenham better than Zaragoza? I think Not
New Castle better than Villarreal? I think Not
Aston Villa Better than Espanyol? I think Not
Middlesboro Better than Atletico de Madrid? I think not
Everton Better than Racing? I think not

poor argument by english suporters, really poor argument!
The Premier is more about money than about football!

The Fact is that this last 2 years!
One Italian, and three spanish teams have won! The premier teams have 0!

Man Utd wouldn't beat them, they would slap them silly

yes sevilla is a class lower than liverpool

    most definetly

    would be close

i would say so especially since they no longer have riquelme

lol everton are def better than Racing

    im not an english supporter

once again going on about the UEFA Cup. when will you realize that the cup is a joke??

Italian and England have consistently performed better than Spain in the CL.
