Szetela has had fitness issues off and on now for 3 years. With that length of time, you've got to wonder about his desire. He always look way too heavy to me. For everyone's sake, I hope the kid gets a trade to Red Bull and soon. He was a large talent, but that whooshing sound is his career going in stagnant/fall off mode. It does nobody any good to have this kid deep six on Columbus bench. Let him go, puh-leeze. (Red Bull have Pierre the wonder trainer, and if he can't get his shite together back home, Danny S. is seriously off the tracks)
While I hate like hell to have to admit it, ek has nailed it here, pal. Your trainer this year was our trainer last year. Any miracles of fitness this genius can perform were tried a long time ago. So, in conclusion, you're an ass. And what part of "being at home" will he find slimming, exactly? Are the pierogis and kielbasa in New Jersey lo-cal now or something? And frankly, the guy owns a house in Columbus. He's lived in it for three years now. He has a steady squeeze and a merry band of running buddies. It's about as "home" as it gets. How many 20 year olds who have a good job and own a house do you think are dying to move back in with Mommy? Besides you I mean. Conversely, the kid moved to Bradenton residency when he was 15, lived there for over two years, then got drafted by the Crew and moved to Columbus. The guy hasn't lived in New Jersey for going on six years now and you want to call it "home"? His "best freind" is Freddy Adu. He's never even had a New Jersey drivers license. At some point you're going to have to accept that he's no longer (if he ever really was) a neighborhood kid. He's going to turn 20 years old next month for Christ's sake. He's a professional athlete plying his trade, not some lonely waif sitting at home at night crying into his pillow. Furthermore, there are now lots of guys younger then Daniel in MLS. Are we supposed to work on sending them "home" as well? Hell, Adu is two years younger than Szetela and he just got moved to freakin Utah. Danny has grown up, something that you guys need to do as well. The "Poor Young Danny So Far From Home" discussion is over. Done. Ancient history. But thanks for playing. We have some lovely parting gifts.
Talk to Mo up in Toronto. He'll give us Danny Dichio and a draft pick for Danny Szetela. Mo is leading the MLS sack race now that Ellinger is out. Cheers,
Not so much anymore. Seems like half the players in the Budesliga have Polish heritage. No one complained about Lucas Podolski or Tim Borowski on the German NT last summer either. I just think that Szetela is a punk who thinks he's a big fish in a small pond.
Not to mention Miroslav Klose, born in Poland, parents are Polish, etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miroslav_Klose I heard an interview with Ward and Szetela last fall where they were talking about being roommates and they were arguing over who played more playstation and talking about each other's girlfriends and what not. These two just don't seem to be very mature, more like typical college kids, and hence I doubt they'll ever develop into great players. I think this highlights the biggest difference between how young players develop in the US v. Europe--in Europe they would be sent down to a lower league and told to earn their way back up. Here they stick around in MLS, even though these guys just don't understand the commitment it takes to be a top-level professional, and apparently whoever has tried to explain the concept to them has failed. Kind of like what we saw with Kyle Martino. It makes me appreciate Grabavoy and O'Rourke even more, both are 23 but they seem to get it in terms of what it means to be a professional.
So your hypothesis is that Danny Szetela resents the Wehrmacht blowing through the Polish border in 1939? Do you suppose Sigi was riding a Panzer at the time? Good G*d, this board has gone completely to hell.
If you guys want to believe that all is light and happiness between Poles and Germans today, be my guest.
Ummm...if each of them are bringing that to the pitch every day, I don't want them on a team I support.
What if they were Bavarians and Prussians 3 generations back - OMG the complexity. Danny could be a.....closet SLAV too!
While I agree with your point about other leagues basically saying, "get it done somewhere else since you aren't here", I think that you're overlooking something. Szetela is almost 20...how old is Ward? They ARE the age of typical college kids. I mean, I know we want the U.S. churning out uber-dedicated super players who had moms that felt the kids slide tackling in the womb, but at that age most people are still immature. The difference between 23 and 20 is huge. Maybe Sigi needs to demote him to the fry-cook all-stars or something to keep his eyes on the prize, who knows? Heck, make him work with me for a few days. If that doesn't motivate him to work harder or face the future of being a coporate cog, then he is unreachable.
I'd also like to add that people like Grabavoy and O'Rourke, since they were the two players mentioned, were probably jacking around at age 20 just like Szetela and Ward...except it was in a dorm.
you have no idea you are talking about..half of Bundesliga has a polish heritage? well it is Lucas Podolski and Klose - both are Germans, but were born in Poland. They grew up in Germany. Tim Borowski is German. There are actually many names in Germany that sounds like polish because of the history, in the past Silesia belonged to Germany. Before the Second World War, Silesia was inhabited by Germans (ca. 75% of population). After the second world war a large portion of the German population had fled or were evacuated from Silesia out of fear of revenge by Soviet soldiers, but many returned after the German capitulation. Most ethnic German Silesians today live in the territory of Germany, only their names remember their history. There are many examples of names that sound a bit polish, but actually they are german. Examples of mixed Polish-German Silesians include Miroslav Klose; fellow teammate Lukas Podolski is also Silesian. so don´t say that half of german national team is polish heritage!. your german friend So be careful what you are saying.
Screw this clown's historical malapropisms. It's true that lots of Poles dislike and distrust Germans, with very good reason. This sort of thing seldom, if ever, extends onto the playing field and it's ludicrous to say otherwise, particularly about a kid raised in Clifton NJ. Furthermore, your theory about how he's a "punk" is ridiculous. What is your evidence for this? Have you talked to Daniel recently? Spoken with freinds and acquaintences of his? Been around the same places at the same time? Hell, have you been in the same city? The same state? As for him "thinking he's a big fish in a small pond" that's imbecilic. Other people may think that about you, but you don't think that about yourself. But if one adjusts for your painful lack of dexterity in the use of English, it's still an idiotic thing to say. Danny has done very little fo the Crew. Almost nothing really. Your statement implies that you think he's a bigshot around here. Nothing could be further from the truth. In conclusion, you are a moron. But we have some lovely parting gifts.
Do you mean "Der Kaiser" aka Kaiser Franz aka Beckenbauer... or do you mean me? I'm sure as hell not Bavarian, and I loath FC Hollywood.
Actually, I think history shows that Sigi WAS a Panzer. But since he doesn't move very rapidly, he never actually blew through the Polish border. He simply stopped off for Kielbasa. Or was it a Buck-a-Brat?
