You are right and depressing. I believe that Gulati can't get his top five coach choices without losing a great deal (like with Klinsmann). Other foreign coaches will be as demanding. Bradley's going to get the gig or stay interim. The best YA players will start to be available: Dempsey, Beasley (07 looks much better than 06), Dolo, Onyewu, Boca, and Howard/Keller for tourneys/friendlies and other YAs (Gibbs, Spector, Simek, Demerit, Hahnemann, Lewis, Feilhaber, M. Bradley, etc.) might help out in qualifying, especially if there are injuries. Bradley will use these players as a core. It's what he has to work with. He's going to need better strategy if he is to keep his job, at least with the senior team.
It's May 5. If the Gold Cup starts in early June and Copa America in late June at what point will those squads be announced? If Sunil is serious about replacing BB the time is now. But it looks like this may be BB's real chance to win the job once and for all while the front office dilly-dallies.
Dear braun, Tubac Arizona, what an interesting little town just filled with artists, artisans and an interesting Mexican Restaurant..................will not forget it.....a bit close to the border but hey, always worth a visit or a stay..........
if the coach is indeed a euro coach, then gulati is waiting for the club season to end... stunned no leaks at any point about who it could be.... it's be unfair for any new coach to take over for gold cup or copa... i'd expect the new guy, if there is one, to sit in the stands and evaluate... sweden and poland IN EUROPE is interesting....has a new guy requested these type matches?? or has u$$f relented on its money grab
I sort of doubt that a foreigner would have that sort of influence and if it were a knowledgeable outside coach, why schedule only against Sweden and Poland. We have already played Poland a few times and although swedene should be a test, why not pursue higher teams, like playing England, Italy France, or Germany as well. If it were me I would love our team to be tested against higher mettle than Sweden or Poland. Not anything against either National teams but lets face it. Germany ((after all didn't the Kaiser maintain that they are the best team in Europe at the moment, and of course the Kaiser is always right, 'sic.)) and the others would be testing us to the nth degree. Especially if they were playing in Europe......should be a sort of home and away brace of friendlies proposition.
Houllier has reupped with Lyon. Queiroz has reupped with Manchester United. Klinsmann has a broadcast deal. Hiddink has Russia playing well and doesn't appear to be going anywhere. If we are still going after a European coach, who is it? Because all the previous finalist candidates appear to be gone. Unless we are about to name Jose Mourinho as our coach who is left to wait for? Sam Allardyce is already available if he were even remotely a candidate we would have already heard something.
I agree...just what exactly are we waiting for...shouldn't we just end this strange limbo and give Bob the confidence and support he needs and if he does well claim it was the plan all along...
just because someone has "reupped" doesn't take him out of the equation...the perception in europe is that the USSF has more money than God and it's possible.....nay probable....that if any of these guys were reupped its because their club got wind of Gulati's interest.....and now Sunil will have to pay "compensation" to that club ( a very large ammount) in order for them to....reluctantly....release the guy from his contract.
yea remember lyon resigned essien and said hell never play for chelsea where is essien now oh wait chelsea so hopullier extending contract means zero
There are still a lot of speculations regarding Lyon and Houllier, because Gerard apparently isn't getting along with the GM/President Bernard Lancombe. But there will be moves after the end of the season.
Seems like Peckermen is the only guy unattached that we've been rumored to be interested in, unless I'm mistaken. England66 makes a great point as well. Additionally I don't really care about waiting if it means we land a quality coach to replace Bradley with.
I hope we don't pursue Allardyce. As others have pointed out, he's not exactly a tactical genius. He seems to be a good evaluator of talent, but so is Bob Bradley. Perhaps his reputation of corruption at the club level is not wholly applicable or relevant to the international scene, but nevertheless it bothers me to some extent. Furthermore, he has no international reputation, making pointless the argument some people have posited about hiring certain coaches because they would command more respect for the program and perhaps persuade more dual-citizenship holding players to choose the USA. Hiring a big name foreign coach won't increase interest in the program domestically. Some people may want such a name so that the USA is taken a little more seriously and covered more heavily in Europe. I personally don't care about media coverage of US soccer in Europe. Another thing I'm wondering about is why there is such a rush to hire someone for the whole cycle now. Why not wait until 2008 if it means getting someone who has the ability to improve the program?
that'd be instant respect from the USA national team players right there. Can't see him leaving the EPL though.
Don't know that I'd want someone who once quit his national team right before the World Cup being in charge of coaching the US in the World Cup. But that's just me.
you are right....i also would not like to have a coach who already once did quit his national team right before the world cup..it is a sign that this person is a not strong and easily give up.....
Keano would never ever take the US job, so speculation is pretty silly. However, the guy has become a top coach, has always been a winner, a tremendously charismatic guy, and he does things the right way with no politics and bs. He's a burning competitor who would get the best our of our guys. Like Keane himself says "I want guys who will run through a brick wall for their teamates...".
I'm beyond stunned. It is bewildering. Based on what happened during the first part of the search, logic keeps telling me that the only reason there are no leaks is because nothing is going on. Unless SG has seen The Good Shepard and taken it to heart....
granted, we have a lack of real muckraking soccer journalists in this country ... but it is unfathomable that none of our lead writers (Goff, Galarcep, Canales, Wahl etc) haven't even a PEEP about this. no rumors. NOTHING. not even an educated guess. and these guys/gals have a lot of inside sources. i'm with you, tony, i don't think Gulati has a damn thing up his sleeve. if he, and others within the USSF, were working on a coup of big-time proportions ... SOMEONE would have spilled the beans by now. and i don't necessarily mean 'blow the cover off the thing', i just mean writers would be passing along tips like: "my sources tell me Gulati has been burning the midnight oil making calls to the south of France." or "heard from an inside source that Gulati is making his 3rd trip to the Iberian peninsula." something like that, that would at least give us some clues. we're not getting ANY of this. Gulati doesn't have shit. (i hope i'm wrong)
