Sorry if this is a stupid question:

For Non-EU residents/citizens, there are VAT reimbursement schemes that vary by country. Is it applicable to the tickets or not? I am particularly interested how it was handled in Germany for WC 2006?

    20% austrian tax bites...

    Gimme a break, funny guy!

Pressing F5 last year while I was waiting 30 seconds to continue and barely got any tickets -that you would call "sticking to the rules"?

I was naive and for the WC in Germany placed only one application. Didn't win at all. And in this lottery I didn't 'use' my family nor am I planning of making money on tickets. I won a total of 20 tix and they will all go to my dear friends whose names I used to apply. Actually the FMT is only for 4 persons and I need at least one more FMT Croatia that I plan obtaining througf my FA.

There were no ID checks at the grounds in Germany (I was there), I see no reason to think there will be next year. They say that every time but it would be very difficult to do it.

Just to clarify this, my rant about multiple applications was as much about being pissed off at myself for not taking advantage of the system as it was about those of you who did. And I want to make it clear that I was NOT suggesting that any of the people who contribute to this thread did it for any reasons other than that they wanted tickets for themselves.
I still think however that the system they've used did make life easy for the touts.

Did you make multiple applications with the one mastercard? I have 2 mastercards so I made 2 applications without luck, could I have made more applications with 2 mastercards?

Holy Cow, received confirmation e.mail yesterday advising that
I was allocated 4 FMT Group England.
Now we just need them to qualify

IIRC, tax rebates are for goods you take out of the country, so don't apply to events, just as I don't think you can claim back for food and accommodation.

The ticket prices do include tax. It's not like the US where you see something advertised for $9, go to the till with a $10 bill and get asked for $10.50 by the cashier.

    RichardL - thanks. That's what I suspected.

In defense of the yanks, 10$ would be enough. Sales tax varies between 0 and 7% depending on the state, and for prepared food it's around 10% where I live. So on a 9$ item the most you'd pay is 9.90.

10.50 is more like the English or EU tax - 17% or so... I'd rather mentally add a smaller sales tax, than pay through the nose, but have it included on the price tag.

Obviously! You think there's a rule against pressing your own F5 key?

It's not about pressing F5 itself, but about getting advantage of malfunction of the system. And in my opinion it's much more serious "crime" than asking your own family to let you send some application in their name.

There are plenty of hipocrites here. As long as something serves their best intersts everything is OK, but don't you even dare to be smarter than them...

So all you Saint Souls, take a minute of reflection before producing dramatic statements...

Actually, I got checked twice in Germany. The first one was the US v Czech game and the 2nd was at the Saudi v Ukraine game. They asked me for my passport and checked that vs the name on my tickets. I imagine they just spot check people, but I got stopped at 2 of the 6 games I saw...just fyi

I stand corrected. But this is honestly the first time I've heard a first hand account of someone getting checked for I.D. at the world cup.

I agree with you. I think touts had a more difficult job in WC 06 than for EURO 08

First tickets already showing up on marktplaats.nl (Dutch Ebay) for for ridiculous prices. I hate it !! I think that more then 30% of all tickets requests came from touts..

I did 8 applications, all unsuccesfull, but i will refuse to buy tickets from touts..

AFAIK there wasn't any malfunction of the system (although maybe it crashed once or twice, but that helps nobody) - it was just a crap system. First-come-first-served is a hopeless way to try to sell tickets that are so highly prized, and no doubt they'll make the same mistake again this time, sooner or later.

On the other hand, applying in someone else's name is against the Euro 2008 rules, but only to the extent that there will be one ticket for each match that can't be transferred.

Are you a member of the Dutch Supporters Association?
It seems that the chances of obtaining tickets are quite reasonable for members...

So if, for whatever season, i decide to meet my companions in the stadium instead of walking in with them, there's a risk of them not getting in if they are checked?

Maybe I misinterpreted your statement then.
What did you mean by this?
AFAIK there's no need to transfer any of the tickets, even if all of them are used by someone different then the original applicant.
