silver ball is when if a team scores in the first over time, they play the rest of that overtime, if the other team doesn't score you don't play the second OT.
Some technical issues out in Salt Lake. For you techies out there: ISDN wasn't working properly so they're using the normal phone lines to transmit, hence the lower quality.
Silver Goal: If you score before half time of ET you play until the first 15 minutes is up. If a team is leading at HT of ET then they win. Remember, this is just informational it is no longer in effect for pro soccer as Andy explained earlier.
I don't believe they carry over. Cause Diego got a red card against the Thunder and had to miss a game for Chicago in the cup the following year.
Right. The Golden Goal (or sudden death) was seen as "too American" and not "sporting" because the team that conceded didn't have their "fair chance to equilize" - overlooking the whole 90 minutes of soccer preceding OT. UEFA implemented the "Silver Goal" in it's competitions about two years after FIFA adopted the Golden Goal. Eventually the whining and bellyaching over it became so much that FIFA just went out and banned the whole mess as of competitions starting on or after June 1, 2004. In fact the USOC Final in September, 2004 may have been the final non-NCAA Golden Goal under FIFA rules.
No. In fact, MLS even track seperate yellow cards and suspensions between MLS and Reserve Division play as well.
