I have started a petition to change the name of Chivas USA, as we are seeing an evolution in the existence of the team. Numerous fans have made the mention that they do not feel a connection to the name Chivas USA and as such, we are starting a movement to get the owners and FO to realize this. It is time that we see a change in the name so that we can create a new image and connection. The following is part of the petition: So if you agree and want to see something done, sign the petition so that we can have our voice heard. And remember to spread the word to all of your friends so that we can amass a collection of signatures in an effort to see change. http://www.petitiononline.com/chivas/petition.html
agreed that that would be a fine name. assuming the owners/investors want to keep the team in the LA area. (and I don't know why they wouldn't.)
They should have a name in spanish and english to accomodate both spanish and english speaking fans. Club Deportivo Los Angeles for spanish. And Los Angeles Chivas for english.
i completely agree, i was just thinking about starting a similar petition. chivas usa is really awkward/lame sounding, cd chivas los angeles would be much more fitting
OK folks, sign it and get about 10 of your friends to sign it!! CD Los Angeles is my favority so far!
Good luck these names sound better but rebranding is going to need a much better reason than a petition
While the club is young, folks! Signing the petition, it's easy and fast. Just fill out your name, email address (it has to be a real working email address and you can keep it private), click to preview and approve the petition.
I think it would have alot more impact if the season ticket holders always made it clear they were STHs.Money talks Good luck
I think the team should definitely retain the Chivas name. I like the idea of Chivas LA since it shows the team as the city's team. I do not like Los Angeles FC since it does away with the Chivas name. The only reason I started supporting the MLS and this team was because of that name and the fact that Ramon Ramirez has always been my favorite player. Including Los Angeles to the name will complement the general Hispanic mixture of the city; however, losing the Chivas name would appear as an attempt to cut ties with the original team that inspired the birth of this team here in Los Angeles. I understand the desire for uniqueness, but I believe that the development of a new personal identity is already being done with the incorporation of so many culturally different players representing countries all over the world. Chivas USA should not believe in any way that by holding on to the Chivas name, it must be forced to be a clone to the original team. The inclusion of the name Chivas is meant to represent a tradition of winning that I'm sure most people would not disagree about developing for our own team in Los Angeles. So yeah, Chivas LA... I'll support that.
"Club Deportivo Los Angeles" That name Looks and sounds tuff!! CDLA With the unoffical Nickname to be "CHIVAS". Chivas USA is what my Dad and his friends called there Rec league team back when i was growing up.
Just thought of something. I was in New York for vacation and Chivas USA just so happened to be playing there during my trip. My dad and I thought it would be fun to go to the game. There were definitely as many Chivas supporters there as Red Bull fans, granted that the stadium was pretty empty. What will changing the name from USA to Los Angeles do to the support across the country? I feel as though it might hinder it, especially since people from other cities will now be forced to choose whether or not to support a team that claims to be regionally selective. Chivas USA allows all the other fans in every city to support the team without any reservation about choosing another city's team over their own city's team. Chivas Los Angeles might receive less support in other cities. This enormous support is something that I think is paramount to the Chivas identity. C'mon, everyone knows that Chivas fans are everywhere, and will show up to support when the team comes to visit their own city. Chivas USA therefore seems to encompass more people.
That is why its so important to keep the CHIVAS brand in the name. MOST of fans you see supporting the team on the road are Chivas, Guad fans. Do you want to alienate them in the process ? NO NO NO. IF they are thinking about a change it MUST BE CD Chivas LA. or just Chivas LA
I agree that the name should keep Chivas so Chivas LA or CD Chivas LA are fine. As to the argument that Chivas USA is more national is weak. In NFL football terms I am a Pittsburgh Steelers fan and always will be even though I like outside of DC. In addition many sports teams cross city boundaries and even call themselves say Red Sox's Nation....
That is exactly what I wanted the team to be named, with the unofficial nickname "CHIVAS". So CD LOS ANGELES for the win!!!
Whatever one chooses to rename the team (I like CD Chivas), the name Chivas must remain. Without it, the team is just another faceless team from L.A., like the Galaxy. Of all the teams in MLS, Chivas is the closest to developing a national following. In every city that Chivas USA visits, one sees plenty of red striped shirted fans in the stands. While it is true that some, or most of those fans are probably Chivas of Guadalajara fans, the L.A. version affords them enough of a vicarious connection to Guadalajara that they show up to the game, anyway. And that, fans, means butts in seats that otherwise would go unfilled.
this is probably borderline trolling, but it's not intended that way... [joke]while you're at it, could you change the name of Francisco Mendoza so that complete moron Christian Miles won't constantly overpronounce his entire name, first nickname and last, every time he touches the ball?[/joke] thanks, I just had to vent... I watch every MLS game I can, and I dread Christian Miles' play by play more than any other.
he serisouly does it to every name. im like roll your god damn R's. ha but he messes up the easy ones too. Gu-zan. sound it out Christian
