Wathching this game on television was horrible and I suppose it couldnt have been much better there. First off the atmosphere was horrible. I know the weather was crappy, but still the fans could have shown a little more passion. Is there a supporters group if not I can understand , but if there is then they should bring a better attitude. There were tiimes troughout the game when you could hear a pin drop. Also Julie Foudy, who I have the utmost respect for, is not a good analyst, at least not yet. She went silent for long stretches of time when she could have said something about the play on the field. O'Brien is getting better, but the little mistakes he makes during the game can start to wear on you. He gets names, numbers, and positions wrongs at least 5-10 times each broadcast. Other than that, the staduim looks great(the pitch may be a bit to big, but I understand colorados motive), and the video coverage on abc was okay. I hope Wynalda comes off suspension soon.(i cant believe i'm saying that)

thought the video was very good. Rest I agree. But it is the video I care about since I do not care much about what they say!

    way too many closeups.

I thought we realized that soccer is NOT like other american sports which are filled with player closeups. Many times I would yell at the TV hoping the cameraman heard me so that he would get rid of the dam closeup!

Colorado played well, in about every postion. T.v. coverage was ok. It just takes time for everyone to learn things.

At the start of the game the atmosphere was ok, nothing exciting but ok. After half time though it went to hell. Weather probably had alot to do with it. im not going to judge to much untill i see more games. I say also give them time and they will have better fans.

Interesting comments on the atmosphere. I was at the game, and while the Rapids are way behind the Fire or DC United, there was actually some atmosphere at the match. Not sure why that did not come through on the broadcast.

The dimishing atmosphere had a lot to do with the weather, hard to clap, play drums or trumpets with gloves on. The temp was bad, but the wind was worse.

Anyway, the new staduim will go a long way to improving the atmosphere in Colorado.

I'm sure it's louder and better soccer at the new stadium for Rapids than before. Biggest reason why the atmosphere didn't carry though onto the broadcast's gotta be because most of the fas couldn't be seen on tv. When they showed a pan-shot of the stadium, the media-side looked jam-packed, while the opposite side looked like there were spots of empty seats. Guess which side the camera was facing during most of the game...

Maybe Colorado should change the spot from where the TV cameras are mounted. I noticed that the bulk of the crowd was on the same side as the TV cameras. The other side was empty. I think the cameras should be in the empty side and show that big bulk of people there. I love the game and will watch it regardless, but when MLS is trying to cultivate a new audience, they CANNOT afford to keep showing half-empty arenas. I know that there had to be a bunch of people tuning in saying "I thought MLS had David Beckham and sold all these tickets, where's the audience? are they waiting for Becks?"

That is what they said but incorrect (like usual). The Rapids sold-out the All-Star game and the LA game in August due to Beckam playing. They sold out in 90 minutes not 40.

Oh, get over it. The game was sold out and most of the people showed up in 25 degree weather. When the wind came up, it was brutal and a whole lot of people huddled up under the roofs and against the buildings. They're not TV props, they're people and they have a right to stay warm. Most of us don't give a rat's ass what someone in AZ thinks about the spectators in our stadium. It was a great opening of a great facility. Now get over yourself.

Maybe you should get over yourself. I wasn't attacking your fanbase, I just made the comment out loud that I know for a fact had to be on a LOT of people's minds yesterday. When the broadcaster says a game is SOLD OUT you should be able to see an audience! Not little pockets of like 5 people here, 2 people there. We shouldn't be able to read the "COLORADO" on the seats! All I said was If MLS wants to build a new audience they should've chosen to show a game where there were people in the stands. They know it's too cold in Colorado for that place to be packed. They should've went with Fire-Revs instead. THAT park was pretty full. YOUR team is a part of MLS, what's good for MLS is good for YOUR team. MLS should've chosen to broadcast a different game, because it would've been better for MLS. Maybe they should've waited for Becks to show up to Colorado before they showcased the new stadium, because it will for SURE be packed then! I know that if Becks was playing in that game yesterday you would've had a packed house in SPITE of the weather!!

I have no idea why you have decided to take an attacking tone with me when it clearly wasn't necessary; Whatever. I guess I'd be frustrated also if all the girls in my town were fat chicks with mullets :D .

I just got back from the game myself. Although they may have sold every ticket, it was clear that many did not show up, perhaps due to the cold. At the start of the game (30 minutes after the time on the ticket) the stands were about as full as they were all day. At halftime, I noticed many fathers standing in the restrooms with their sons to keep them warm. A lot of the kids were struggling with the weather.

The fan noise, on the other hand, just isn't there. The Rapids don't help this by using the sound system. You can't compete with that when the music is blaring. So they, in effect, teach the fans to sit quietly and be passive.

They need to stop doing that right now.

You are absolutely right about the sound system! They blare that thing right up until the ball is kicked, and when they turn it off, everybody is quiet.

They need to get rid of that and the cheerleaders and give out free beer to college students in a "supporters" section...Then we would have an atmosphere!

Clearly you have never been able to experience true Mountain Girls, hell of a lot better than that wanna be California chick you have down there in AZ!!

Anyway, the side with the cameras has a larger roof and was somewhat protected from the wind coming from the northwest, that is why more people were on that side. It was much colder on the opposite side.

In terms of what to broadcast, there was no way to tell it would be that cold in Denver this week, definately unseasonal. Any normal weather day and all the people that were huddled under the roof and in the restaurants would have been in the seats.

That reminds me... the biggest cheers were the goals (of course) and when the cheerleaders were giving out T-shirts.

I guess you can't blame the kids for that, but I hope the fans get it together for when we show up next year. It would be nice to have some give and take. Then you'd see some atmosphere!

Audience didn't thin out until the second half I think.

I didn't think the announcers talked to little. I thought they still talked to much. I'm watching so I can see the play on the field. Not the announcers in the booth.

Wow. I'll bet the last time you were at the bar you'd claim some girl there was fat, like triple-orca fat while your poor fans were kindly pointing out that she was at most 10 pounds overweight. If you're going to comment out loud, don't get so touchy when people point out how far offbase your yapping is.

Actually the largest cheer I heard was for that Non-Call on the PK late in the game.

What was up with that officiating in the 2nd half? It looked as if the ref couldn't stand for DC to lose....But they Did!!!

Thanks for the 3 points, see you next year!

I can't tell you about the ref; most of that was happening 80 yards from where I sat near the north goal.

I still think the largest cheer was for the T-shirts, but maybe that didn't make TV.

    EDIT: stood!
