I am curious about this player brought to attention in US Men's forum. ESPN Deportes' site says he was born in Orange County, CA, and is a US citizen. Aparently he plays centrally in defense for San Luis. Does anyone have any background on him and his history internationally? Thank you, apologies if I didn't dig deep enough in this forum.
According to the Mexican Futbol Federation website, he's played in 1 game this Apertura for a total of 21 minutes. In the Clausura, he played in 5 games for a total of 436 mintues. Notes that he's 21 years old Interestingly, the club's website www.esmas.com/sanluis doesn't list him in their players' section. US Soccer's website shows that he played for the US Under-18 Men's National Team in 2004 against Saprissa and was sent off in a match after 30 minutes for his second caution.
Does anyone know where this kid played his club ball? I think I remember reading it was ISC Strikers but i'm not positive.
Orozco, who played youth ball for the Irvine Strikers and played on U.S. U-20 national team in 2004, has U.S. and Mexican citizenship. from socceramerica.com http://www.socceramerica.com/article.asp?Art_ID=562138631
You have it backwards. He played one game last season (Apertura) and has played in 5 straight games (90 min each, IIRC) this season at central defense.
In the game on the 10th he was subbed out in the 77th min., but the team is 3-1-1 over that 5-game stretch. This guy is one to look out for. Why is Soccer America ahead of BigSoccer on this guy?
Tivo'd the San Luis v. C.Azul match today. Watched first half and Mike O. was holding his own agst. Chelito Delgado and company. Looks confident and is pretty active....went out wide a couple times on 1v1's and held the attacker off.
yeah he is doing pretty good this season.. i actually played soccer with him in orange county before he went to mexico ..
Looks like you're wrong. He was called into the Olympic camp today! http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_4947972.html Good thing too. We are really thin at CB
Wow, we are really loaded with the 23's except for as you mentioned at CB, one interesting thing is Kamani Hill as a defender, he might make for a real quality RB actually, he could provide some much needed depth in the back, it is wonderful to see Orozco make the list I am ecstatic about this!!! It is about time we call in some Mexican -based players I expect him and Ianni to be our central back pairing in qualifying, he is quality. Also LB is interesting Harrington must have really given Nowak a bad impression over in China, it will also be interesting to see if Myers can beat out Randolph there. I am very excited and intrigued by this roster though, I fully expect this is the A-list, and this will be the exact roster for qualifying more than likely. Did Johann Smith not impress all that much? Lastly, I know this is a bit of a reach but I wonder if Cervi will beat out Seitz. Here is my stab at the starting XI. --------------Cervi--------------- Wynne----Ianni---Orozco----Myers Holden----Edu---Kljestan----Rogers ---------Davies---Altidore--------- What a team!!!
So I take it we'll have to advance through qualifying without the likes of Adu, Bradley, Sztela and Zizzo?
More than likely as teams aren't required to release for Olympic quals. Plus I doubt we will see Szetela or Zizzo on the final roster. Heck we might not even see Adu (in case we want to save him for the next Olympics)
I agree that this is close to what we will see for qualifying. Here is my ideal line up --------------Seitz--------------- Wynne---Ianni---Orozco---Randolph Rogers----Edu---Kljestan----Alvarez ---------Davies---Altidore---------
Did Dalby, Zimmerman and Johann Smith have to return to their European teams? Or does Nowak just not want them?
Well I'm glad I'm wrong. I'd still love to know the background story on why so many of our Mexican-based Yanks are never even called into camps.
He might not want to call them up until the last minute, so as not to burn bridges with their respective clubs. Perhaps some type of deal, like we won't call them up for a lot of the preliminary camps, but when quals start, can we get these guys without any flak. Something like that.
http://www.esmas.com/sanluis/plantel/jugadores/ Is Michael still with San Luis? I can't seem to find him under their roster page. The reason I ask is I found it odd that he was called into camp since San Luis has started the Clausura season. I'm elated Michael has been called into camp. It has been noted he's played well as a CB and has a big upside. It just surprised since the Clausura has started and he would miss valuable time with San Luis. The would have to release him for camp and you know being a Yank would count agianst him! ESPN Soccernet does have him listed on their roster page though: http://soccernet-akamai.espn.go.com/team?id=2490&cc=5901
He started last wknd. vs. Tigres, so yes. I'm still waiting for some level of US nats team to call up Longview TX-born Jose Francisco Torres of Pachuca, who looks (from my admittedly limited viewing of him last wknd) to be the real deal--a 20-year-old US-born #10 in a top league.
Well, we do have quite the talent in midfield, Orozco wil go right in and start probably at CB for Olympic Qualifying, where Torres, I haven't seen him play before but would probably have to battle like hell to even make the team with the talented midfielders we have. We won't get to picky anyways it's a start
http://www.ussoccer.com/articles/viewArticle.jsp_4947972.html Yeah, I just saw not 5 minutes after I posted that he went 90 minutes in a draw against UANL. Torres, a friend of mine who's a Pachuca fan told me, is the future of Pachuca. They are exteremly high on him and are grooing him very quickly. I know little about Torres or Orozco but it they are as good as advetised USSF needs to include them in the youth nnational team set-up with view of grooming the for the senior team provided the can hack with the Baby Nats.
Well I've been saying it for a million years, and I'm not trying to overly PC here or anything, but the key the to developing CONCACAF club soccer/football is Americans going to Mexico and Mexicans coming to America. I know it is not possible at some Mexican clubs, but it has always been disappointing to me that there isn't more Americans in Mexico. It seems things are changing, or maybe I'm just noticing it more. What I want to see is a non Mexican-American go down to Mexico. Landycakes, you want to make a difference? Find a Mexican club to take you on. Is that actually possible or am I just fantasizing? I do believe that someone like Landon could open up the flood gates (both ways) - as long as MLS does something about the salaries of course...
