I wonder if the Galaxy/MLS has an injury clause in his contract...Just in case the worst happens. I wish him a speedy recovery.
If not, I would imagine they have at least an insurance deal to cover themselves. The contract was far too valuable to not be protected.
Please allow that to be the last time Chris Armas is ever compared to David Beckham for any reason whatsoever.
the injury doesn't sound to be (MLS) season or career threatening. and like it or not, anything that keeps Beckham's name in the news is good for MLS. of course they want a healthy player to join LA, but he's already sold tons of tickets and helped push the league forward while still with Madrid. here's to the scans finding only minor damage and to Beckham recovering fully and quickly.
Fortunately for Beckham, the best knee doctors seem to be in the US. He won't have to travel far to his new employers.
Dude- you are borderline troll. So clearly running in that direction, Mr. February joiner (are you Krayzie?)
Knowing that he got up and tried to play on it tells me that it's not the most serious knee injury in the world. He'll be fine by June, hopefully. Get well soon Becks, we need you
The truth is harder for some to accept than others Looks like Beckham isnt going to be considered to rejoing team England anytime soon: http://football.guardian.co.uk/continentalfootball/story/0,,2026621,00.html
I guess today was a bad day for Real Madrid 4 player's hurt in the same game according to a quote from their website. http://www.realmadrid.com/articulo/rma37720.htm "Real Madrid were very unlucky against Getafe. Four of their players were injured during the match. Reyes has an injury on the lateral internal ligament of his left leg. Beckham has the same injury on his right leg. Higuaín and Van Nistelrooy have bruised their left and right quadriceps, respectively. They will all be examined tomorrow at Veldebebas to determine the seriousness of their injuries."
That would be specifically Dr. Richard Steadman in Vail, Colorado.. He's the one that sports stars from around the world come here to see.. His client list is like the hall of fame for all sports..
Thanks confirming you have completely detatched yourself from reality Youre in some alternate reality where Beckham has won 4 titles w/ Madrid and is still on the national team Some more headlines from reality for your enjoyment: http://mlb.aolsportsblog.com/2007/03/04/david-beckham-out-indefinitely-with-knee-injury/ David Beckham Out Indefinitely With Knee Injury "Although it's too early to know the extent of this injury, it's a reminder of how precarious a strategy it is to base an entire league's marketing on one player, as the MLS has done."
From the way it was reported, it doesn't sound as serious as you might think. The medial and lateral ligaments tend to be less problematic when injured. They can hurt very much, but they also don't need as much repairing. If it had been an ACL ( anterior cruciate ligament) then we would more than likely be expecting him around September. This I believe will turn out to be a couple of games; no more than that.
He'll be fine for his Galaxy contract. I bet Lalas' hair changed from red to silver in a blink though.
For what it's worth, ESPN ticker says "could be out up to 6 weeks"... Could be a little CYA from the network that is, in some way, relying on the "Beckham effect" to help their investment in MLS... hopefully the 6-weeks is correct...
He'll be fine for the Galaxy. Capello probably won't be calling Becks' name when he gets well in late April, as RM will probably be out of the running for any trophy of importance and he will be giving the younger stars more playing time. He'll have an extra six weeks to rest and will come to L.A. fresh on July 1st, and will join the MLS a month earlier than anticipated at 100%. At least us Galaxy fans can hope this is the case, right? Here's my blog ---> http://www.themlszone.blogspot.com
well, if he tears his ACL he's done, let's be plainly obviously about it. Becks ain't coming back from that, on the wrong side of 30. if he tears his ACL, it's over in MLS ... the Victoria show is over ... the billboards ... the gillette ads ... the motorola ads ... or whoever are his main sponsors. there is A LOT riding on Becks being healthy for his MLS/LA debut this summer, which is why i was partially surprised that all the parties involved opted to roll the dice and let him finish out his RM contract.
I bet if it were his ACL, he'd still be part of the team, persay. He'll probably travel with the team throughout the season and make "appearances" at games and such, and would still get his endorsement deals, all while they all hype up his actual playing with Galaxy in the 2008 season...
Does it seem odd that he apparently injured himself running into the side advertising boards. In the US, that's a big potential lawsuit (boards to close to the field), but in Spain- who knows?
really? i've never heard of that. it seems to me we've had all kinds of players run into walls/advertising boards (across the board MLB-NFL-NBA), i've never once heard of someone suing the arena management team for overly intrusive advertising. i gotta plead ignorance on your point: i've never heard of that before.
The reality I'm in says that Beckham is still a player who competes at the highest level of his sport. That's good enough for most folks. The good news is that the entire league's marketing strategy does NOT rest on Beckham. Is the signing a huge part of the marketing of MLS? Yes. Is it the only part of the marketing of MLS? No. Let's avoid the hyperbole until we find out more about his injury. Let's put it this way, ESPN Sports Center just reported on it and you know that wouldn't have happened if he hadn't signed with MLS. And, c'mon you are trolling.... so golazo is not totally disconnected from reality.
