Rapids Pre-season Matches #2 Hello, from Miami FL. Rapids got a second win In Cuauhtitlan, the Colorado Rapids got a second win on their trip to Mexico, topping Tuzos 3-1 in a game that was divided into two 40-minute halves. Herculez Gomez, acquired from the Galaxy in the deal that sent Cannon to California, struck twice, tallying once in the first minute of the game and again later in the first half. The Rapids took a 2-1 lead into the break. In the second frame, Stephen Keel added an insurance strike for the Rocky Mountain side, finding the back of the net in the 78th minute.
Re: Rapids Pre-season Matches #2 Did you see the game? Did Gomez start?..play the full 90? Hopefully good looking wins in pre-season won't jinx us at our home opener.
What is this with defenders scoring... shades of Balboa!! But in all seriousness, I think we've seen that our best foreign chances are with the Latina America countries, and I, for one, am glad that we focus on these. I think that our relationship with Arsenal (at least for the first year or so) will be pretty transparent to we fans. But if they are discussing coaching/recruiting/fan support (hee-hee) techniques then I'm all for it! All-in-all I'm amped up for a great Rapids season! G'Day...Ron
Hey, language! If you were actually playing on that Bosnian team that the Rapids scrimmaged a few years ago and beat so badly, I meant no offense.
No offense taken...trust me.... If there is a team in the area..now that would be of interest to me... Zdenko
That's right, Colorado and Cruz Azul tied today at 2 on a training match, I have not a clue on who played for Colorado, but C. Azul rested the players that saw action yesterday against Pumas and gave a chance to the players that were on the bench and also to some guys of the Primera A franchise, even though it wasn't Cruz Azul first team it was a pretty competitive team, with Jared Borgetti as their most notorious player. http://www.mediotiempo.com/noticia.php?id_noticia=34248
I'm happy to see Joel Barbosa is still on trial with the team. He played the second half for them. Throwing some youth like Freeman and Barbosa in there with experience in Vanney, Prideaux, and Petke is always a good combination at defense. Does it seem to anyone else that the group that played the first half were the "starters", or do you think talent split evenly for both halves? Good to see Beckerman wearing the captain's armband in the picture, I guess that's the logical choice when you don't have Cannon any more, and Mastroeni and Mathis weren't part of the game.
Rapids roster v. Cruz Azul: COL- Bouna Coundoul (Matt Jordan 40), Dan Gargan (Jordan Harvey 40), Greg Vanney (Stephen Keel 40), Brandon Prideuax (Mike Petke 40), Chris Wingert (Joel Barbosa 40), Hercules Gomez (Colin Clarke 40), Kyle Beckerman (Daniel Wasson 40), Jovan Kirovski (Nick LaBroca 40), Nicolas Colaluca (Terry Cooke 40), Niko Hernandez (Omar Cummings 40), Roberto Brown (Angel Sosa 40) Head Coach: Fernando Clavijo IMO, It looks like the first team was the starters, except for cookie. If so, Bouna looks to have the edge over Jordan right now for the keeper spot. Where were Pablo and Ugo? I can see pable sitting out, but I was surprised that Ugo wasn't in the lineup.
MLS doesn't even respect the Rapids. In the article about yesterday's Rapids - Cruz Azul match, there is a picture of Adu. Give me a break!
Just cause the team was in the headline doesn't mean it was just about the Rapids. They mentioned just about every other MLS team that had something newsworthy on the same page.
