On Costa Rican radio, Kinnear gave a post-game interview. He complained about how this always happens in Concacaf, saying "Es terrible" and "Jugamos contra 12." (we played against 12.) When asked in English if the ref favored Puntarenas, he replied, "What do you think?"

But he also spoke highly of his team's performance, saying the players adopted the perfect attitude, worked hard, were unlucky on the deflection, and that his keepers "were heroes today."

And he did his best to speak Spanish, but it didn't always come out right, with lines like, "in the next roundo." :)

It was Morgan who was sent off. Nick Kowba, the team administrator, is the guy who escorted him off the pitch.

Coaches can't officially be red-carded, they can be ordered to leave the sideline but not red-carded, therefore there's no automatic suspension even though one can be levied at a later date by CONCACAF.

I remember feeling down after the Chivas home leg of the playoffs. Then they came here and met a sea of orange that would not be denied. If we want this next match, we have to win it in the stands. Use vacation, call in sick, quit your job (maybe not that far), we must represent in College Station!!!

I may be wrong - but I dont think Bruce was sent off. The bench had been trying to get someone in the dressing room to tend to Eddie's head. I was trying to read lips and I believe that was what happened, finally the fourth official got the referee over and explained and the referee granted the request.

I would like to beleive that the A&M move is because ticket demand is so high, and they want a higher profile venue, but my guess is Houston has a girls blind Jr. Rodeo competition or something, so rather than a major international soccer tournament, MLS had to go beg for a venue...

Second leg is Thursday March 1, 8pm central time in Texas. It will be played on a field that is not the normal Houston home field (scheduling conflicts with their normal field, which is on a college campus). The match next week will be played at a different college campus in College Station, about 100 miles north of Houston.

I agree and thanks for the support. This was a wake up call and we will answer it. As much as we trash each other in the MLS, it was cool to see other clubs supporting us in the game thread. Come on DCU, kick the crap out of those Hondurans tonight.

Puntapanzies are toast in Houston :D When the team was in San Jose they never failed to defeat their CCC rivals while playing at home and that includes several eventual winners of the competition. So with one goal down the Dynamo's chances are excellent.

I forgot to mention, it's interesting to think about what would have happened if one of our players had picked up an injury after Morgan was banished from the sideline. The Dynamo didn't have another medical consultant on-site. The other guy you saw out there with Bruce during injuries was team kit man Beau Abdullah who has zero medical training.

Maybe they would have reverted to John Spencer, whose medical treatment would probably look and sound something like this. "HEY, grow a sack and get up you @!#!@* $%Q@*#@. We've got a game to win"

    Wow.

I'm not even a Houston supporter and I can't remember when I've been this angry over a result in a long, long time.

The bogus PK call, the ridiculous 2nd yellow on Robinson, the mysterious "end the match as soon as Puntarenas scores" amount of stoppage time...

    It's a miracle it was only 1-0.

Prepare next week for 11 guys behind the ball, more creative diving than Greg Louganis, and acting so good it'll have Tom Hanks taking notes.

Hopefully DC will get a better result tonight - at least the benches will be a distance from the stands, unlike today.

well some of you have been alot more polite than im gonna be.....that was a freakin joke of a game.......there can be no question that the ref cheated us.it wasnt even debateable.he straight up cheated.the no calls.the absolute wrong calls.Heck when DeRo had his back to a ball coming down the player behind him falls down as DeRo is going up for the ball and the ref calls a foul on DeRo?what.

you cheatin ass pieces of shit. where is the honor in winning the way they won today? on that pasture? I could find a better pitch to play on at my great grandmas farm in Blooming Grove. Oh yea and do they have lawnmowers in the great nation of Costa Rica? my gosh cut the freakin grass you idiots......

next leg.....we kick their cheatin asses.............

    come on you Dynamo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck in the return match, Dynamo. I have a feeling (like the other posters before me) that DC is in for more of the same in Honduras.

Was that really true that Robinson was red-carded (2nd yellow) for wasting time, while on the ground with an open wound to the head? If so, that's even beyond the pale of what we've all come to expect from Concacaf tournament officiating!

I'll find out for everyone if Bruce actually got sent off or not, but one thing to note is that early in the first half, I caught Beau Abdullah on camera heading back to the dressing room by going behind the Dynamo goal. So it would have been possible for Bruce to get to the locker room without having to cross the field...

sad but more than likely true. robinson received the fists of our gk zach wells on a punch out. the referee was standing at the top of the 18 in clear view of the play and appeared to wave his hand at robinson to get up soon after he was on the ground. as for the laceration, its unclear from the cameras at the stadium as to the degree of the head injury

We have some advantages going into the next leg.

    1) Only a goal down as opposed to the usual 3 or 4 for MLS sides in recent years.
    2) It won't be nearly as hot
    3) Home support, no rocks thrown at our team

The trashing between groups in MLS is mostly just Europosers wanting to look/think they are cool.

I mean the fact that people were posting about how much they hated the Houston team before the Dynamo ever kicked a ball is all you need to know.

Not saying that there aren't some real rivalries in MLS, just saying that most of the trashing is just made up because people think it is cool.

I personally appreciate a good game, don't really know of a rival for the Dynamo, and support all MLS teams outside of MLS.

Club rivalries are one thing, but this tournament in my mind is ALL of CONCACAF (players, coaches, refs, brass) vs. MLS. There is nothing the Mexican and Central American clubs fear more than the United States and the Caribbean club teams becoming ascendant.

Let's hope DCU can take care of business.

Houston can take solace in the following things:

There is no question Houston was out of shape. Some additional training, a proper pitch, and more familiar climate should improve them immedately. Let's hope Ching hits the field!

If you looked at the game honestly, it probably should have been PFC 1 - HOU 0 at the end of the first half. However due to bad luck, PFC was denied.
The problem I see is that except for that final bounce, all of PFC's "good luck" was manufactured by the ref.

Having watched this tourney since FSC started showing it, the CONCACAF ref's were not too suprising.

Play the Dynamo in midseason with perhaps a ref from Sweden and let's see what happens.

    4) The team will be more fit and on form
    5) The field will be decent, so the Houston passing game can work better
    6) Team will be more rested, not coming off a long plane trip 2 days before the match

It's matches like this that make you understand why MLS/SUM just wants to bypass the CCC with Interliga.

We need to do what Mexico did and buy our way into Copa. I know it won't happen for another decade but this is disgracefull.....and typical.

If MLS isn't going to take the CCC serious by actually preparing properly, and then have to deal with this then God bless Interliga.

I'd rather have one of our teams get whacked playin Club America in Azteca then see this stuff. Truely embarrassing.

I know you are good guy MoRado, I've read your stuff, but please.

If this is what brings "pride" then I am glad I don't understand. Let me be an ignorant soccer Yank. Embarrassing stuff.

Hey Tico, do you not mow the pitch because it cushions the diving?

You got every chance in the world to win and you had to wait until stoppage time, against a team that hadn't played a meaningful game yet.

    Talk about suck.
