Just after bowing out in the second round of the Viareggio Tournament on Wednesday, Ferrari is once again back with Sampdoria's first team for their Serie A game away to Parma on Sunday.

    http://www.sampdoria.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1228&Itemid=38

Ferrari's inclusion is quite likely due to the absence of the injured Bonazzoli. La Gazzetta dello Sport lists Flachi and Bazzani as the starters up front, although Flachi is carrying a light injury and his status is still a bit questionable. If Flachi can't manage to start then Quagliarella will be moved from the right wing to forward.

Rossi is expected to start up top for Parma.

So the ideal scenario is for Ferrari to score and lift up his jersey to reveal an American flag on his undershirt?

    Update on the game...

0-0 in first half. Rossi starting, Ferrari doesn't make the teh bench, I guess not too suprising he had a busy week and supposedly hit by the flu.

Rossi sure been coming off that pedastal everyone's been putting him on after HIS ONE GOAL in the first game :)

    I think he's a talent too..but now he's a scored-one-goal-in-4-games talent.

Let see if he can pick up the performance again..

1-0 road win for Sampdoria, who also missed a pk.

Tokyo Rossi went 90 ... between Newcastle and Parma, he now has 1 goal in 15 appearances.

Like I said before, he's the next Jovan Kirovski. A good youth player, but average against men. Move along folks. Nothing to see here.

Give the kid a chance, it's idiotic to write the kid off at this early stage. Kirovski was in England where defense is ten times more lax and there is acres more space afforded to players than in Italy where you are closed down on the ball before you can even think. That said, Rossi has done well and has been dangerous. Give him a chance, he'll get going....He's not on the greatest team, you know. The service has been lacking.

It's a good sign that even through a manager switch, with Ranieri coming in last week, he's still starting.

I"m not a big Rossi supporter for the well worn reasons but I do wish him well and he obviously deserves some time to settle in and start scoring. 4 games is far too soon to write him off.

this is surely a matter of perception. it looks to me like they close you down in the epl just as fast as in serie a. which is why i think that rossi will score in italy if he was on a good team. his lack of scoring at newcastle and at parma have more to do with the quality of the teams than with his scoring ability. he looked better when he was with manu.

Well, folks, just got back from the game a little while ago.

I was hoping to see Ferrari get some sub minutes but, alas, he didn't even make the bench. Oh well....

Anyway, the first half was crap but the second was a thriller.

Rossi had a so-so game overall. I can remember him taking two shots; one that was way off target and another that was denied being a goal only by an excellent save from the Samp keeper. He also sent a nice through ball for Budan at one point and took a free kick that went straight into the wall.

I also have to say that his touch and quickness are truly something to behold. In the first half he turned Samp defender Accardi with a move that left him for dead. Accardi hacked him down and was rightly booked for it.

As regards Ferrari, I was trying to size up the forward situation at Sampdoria:

Bonazzoli and Flachi are the normal first choice starters, but both were injured today, so they went with Quagliarella and Bazzani up top.

Quagliarella is clearly the best forward they have, even if he is frequently used at right mid. He scored a lovely goal today and really should have had two. He is also hot property and is being eyed by, among others, both of the Milan teams.

Bazzani, on the other hand, looked totally useless. He can head the ball, but that's about it.

In summary, I think that things could be looking pretty good for Ferrari in the near future. With Quagliarella likely gone this summer, and Flachi and Bazzani both over 30 years old, he could very well find some space in the first team next season.

The best thing he can do is to continue playing well with the Primavera squad and make the most of the first team minutes when they come. Let's see...

I understand that some people don't want Rossi to be a star because he prefers to try to play for the current World Cup holders. However I will never understand why anyone would relish the chance to try and jump on him everytime he doesn't score or may not star in a game.

Just because you score a goal doesn't mean you played well, and just because you didn't score doesn't mean you were poor on the day.

Lets find out from some sort of first hand report how he did.

Scotty has now given a report, for which I am thankful.

And how can you possibly know that.
He's playing in Serie A - granted for a lousy team but he's there against good teams and apparently at least holding his own.

He just turned 20 on Feb 1st. What 20 year old American is holding his own against the compeition he is? If you can name any I'm going to bet they aren't considered "good youth player but average against men".

He may end up a perennial backup or benchwarmer, or he may become something special.

But if you really believe there is "Nothing to see here" .... then feel free not to look.

You know, chances are, when Rossi matures, he'll be tons better than Jovan Kirovski but not good enough to crack the Azurri roster consistently.

Small quick guys like him usually mature faster anyway. It's the bigger slow(er) guys like Pelle, whom it takes a few years to adjust to the speed of the game.

Plus, Rossi will need to have a complimentary style of play from his coach.

So he might do well at Arsenal, Reading or Portmouth (or Serie A and La Liga) but a physical side will probably always be too much for him.

And that factor would not have made him a good US Nat player anyway.

When is the first time Italy can cap him so I don't have to see his name in a yank forum anymore? He already pledged his loyalty to the Italians why do we still see threads about him here?

Isn't he technically an Italian player now and would have to change his mind in order to be an USnat player? So until he changes his mind why do we still count him as a yank abroad?

    Blue

PS. I have nothing against him personally, but as a football player, isn't he kinda like a Benedict Arnold?

This is not a US men's national team forum. This is a forum for any americans playing abroad. There is still interest since he developed here even if he never plays for the US team or Italy either for that matter.

For the last time people, this is a YA forum. They don't have to pledge their alligence to the US or have to be a US international to be considered a YA. They simply have American ties in some capacity. I get so sick and tired of people not taking the time to read the "YA Sticky" where it clearly states how one is considered a YA.

Bluestar, I'm not picking on you or targeting you, but we on these boards do the same song and dance at least 3 times a month regarding Rossi. It gets old and very annoying. Some may be upset that he's chosen Italy but it won't change the fact he's a YA.

I take one weekend off from BS, and we're back to the Great Debate.

Actually, shouldn't it be Benedetto Arnaldo? :D

It's getting to the point where I don't want to click on a Rossi thread because wading through the "traitor" posts and war metaphors is too time consuming.

not that its worth much but having seen him play in person I'd have to say I agree with you. He just doesn't have ENOUGH talent as a small man, to survive against the big men that seem to be prevelent these days. He ain't Messi, he ain't Scholes, he ain't Michael Owen.

If he struggles, why aren't we allowed to look and also mock?

Is there some sort of rule that we have to root for the guy in order to post? That doesn't seem to apply in Tim Howard threads.

I don't generally root for players on the Italian national team, and some I actively root against. Why can't Rossi be in the latter group? I certainly would have at least some reason to do so, no?

It's a natural byproduct of people continuing to discuss him as an American even when he apparently doesn't think of himself that way.

And as a moderator, you shouldn't allow people to make personal attacks agaisnt someone for expressing a negative opinion on a player, much less encourage them.
