    Pay stubs would assure everyone.

Unless you have access to the privately held Everton information, you and I are on the same footing. We can each Google for the same sites.

He made ~ $3.6M in his first year when he got all the performance bonuses, which were tied to the number of starts/minutes played.

That may have kicked in a new salary base for him, when he extended his contract with ManU.

Adjusting for the exchange rate fluctuations, $3.8M is in the same ballpark.

Looking over at Everton's financial picture, the team has four truly blue chip players - Howard, Arteta, Cahill and Johnson. Johnson makes the same $3.8M salary, I believe. But even if those four average $4M, it's only $16M in total.

Neville, Beattie, Yobo, Lescott, Fernandes and van der Meyde are probably next with a ~ $2.5M average.

    So that's 10 players for about $30M.

The rest of the rotation probably costs another $12-$15M, which gives a wage bill of ~ $45M for a team, whose revenues are around the $100M mark and climbing.

    There's no voodoo accounting here.

Another point to bear in mind is how fast wages are rising. If Howard makes $27.5K/week next season and gets increments of 15% each year, then his five-year average is $37K/week.

Actually the heading you gave could be a bit misleading.

His agent's office says "The financial package - the largest ever for an American soccer player" but it doesn't say what his wages are or how the package is organized.

It would be nice to know what some of these guys make --- but at the same time I accept its not really any of my business.

Not going to complain for once, good job Moyes, hopefully he'll be part of the "trio" of players that Moyes bought this year that turned around Everton's fortunes (Howard, Lescott and AJ). :)

I would go on about how the transfer fee was a bit too much or how he's getting paid way too much, but this is YA, and I can't. :)

Given the new economics of the prem, it's hard to define overpaying anymore. But Howard looks to be deal in a winter where a pds 8-10 offer for Bale is turned down.
Lescott cost more than Howard, didn't he? And AJ must have doubled Howard's cost?
But what's this about being poor? All I ever hear is big club?

Actually, you can. But only if you can supply hard numbers.

Andy cost ~ £8.2M and is making £2M annually ... and that was when Everton matched Wigan's salary offer.

we've all got opinions. She's just got a better forum to deliver them than the rest of us. No need to rip her for stating it.

Are you referring to the Duncan Ferguson who never hit double figures in goals after the 1997-98 season? If that's the measuring stick, then Howard got screwed.

Unfortunately, I don't know if there are hard numbers for miskicks, lack of handling, and occasional poor handling in the box.

lol sometimes you guys make me wonder if I actually hate Howard lol. Of course I don't, but its just the person in me to highlight deficincies....
