Could go with the Colorado Arsenal Athletic Club (CAAC), which for Bostonian's would be approapriate to play at the Big Dick.
No! Arsenal Colorado FC... or, in old tyme Heavy Metal font: AC/FC I'll let someone with graphics wizardry make it, but I want credit.
I will be a little heartbroke if the Rapids do change their name.....but I will get over it and still support my local club. However, I am a little more concerned about the future youth academy. Arsenal is a prominantly used youth soccer club name. I can think of several clubs in several states that use Arsenal. Not to mention the nationally prominant Arsenal FC out of California. It seems to me that our youth academy teams would not be as immediately recognizable as having ties to a MLS side if this is to be true..... However.....I realize I am getting a bit ahead of myself, as we have yet to hear any significant announcement about the future youth academy from the Rapids.
Hmmm... That might mean we should visit a thread on the Arsenal board to find out what they think, not one on the Dallas board as was suggested. If it irritates the poseurs over on the Arsenal board then I'm 100% behind it as well.
I spit out like a sewer hole Yet still recieve your kiss How can I measure up to anyone now After such a love as this? Well, who are we? (Who are we? Who, who, who, who?) I really wanna know (Who are we? Who, who, who, who?) Tell me, who the f* are we? (Who are we? Who, who, who, who?) 'Cause I really wanna know (Who are we? Who, who, who, who?)
My wife thinks its sexy that I could be a spy. All of her fantisies include Bond or the Saint and me wearing my expensive diving watch to bed, but unfortunately, I 'm not. I'm just a long time fan that is finally discovering the internet. I feel like I'm finally home. My family goes to every Rapids game and I always thought it was me and thousands of little girls in the stadium with no real fans.
I just found this....... Rapids may change name DENVER - First a new stadium, then the announcement of the 2007 All-Star game and now the Colorado Rapids are on the verge of changing their name. 9NEWS has learned that the Colorado Rapids soccer team is looking to change the clubs name to either Arsenal Colorado or Colorado Arsenal. Both names are trademarked by the organization and the domain names are registered to the Pepsi Center. In addition to the name change, the club will change the look of the uniform including the team logo and the color scheme which is believed to be maroon and light blue. The team was not available for comment Here's the link http://www.9news.com/sports/article.aspx?storyid=64114 I'm not sure if they have just been monitoring us, or do they ctually have "source."
Now the banner has changed on the website. the badge now fills in red instead of simply staying white.
I just noticed that myself. How long until it's complete...anybody's guess. Still no word on the press conference that was supposed to happen today. What is up with these guys? There must have been a major wrinkle in their plans.
well let's see.....it first changed yesterday about 4:30pm, now it's changed at 9:30am, so that means they should be done by APRIL 7 at 1:30pm!!!!!!!!
Well, I had the night to think about this whole thing, and I've decided I like it. Here's how I see what KSE is doing: - the "Arsenal" brand has the double entendre with the connection to the former local arsenal, and to the storied club known by millions across the globe- targeting local soccer fans who have more interest in global soccer than MLS. If they follow it up with a formal club affiliation (and some play dates...), as some rumors suggest, I'll be massively impressed. - the kit colors will link us to two other KSE franchises that are much larger in scope and give us some cred with the local non-soccer fans. I don't mind being linked with the Avs (2 Stanley cups) and Nuggets (Melo, AI). - their leaks, emails, hints may not have delivered what we've hoped for so far, but they've cleverly managed to stir up a fair-amount of pre-announcement hype and publicity. - they're building us a new stadium! Sure, it's a long ways from winning the MLS Cup, and consistently getting sellout crowds at Dick's, but I think these are steps in the right direction. No, I don't work for KSE. Flame away....
Those are all great points. I grew up in Tampa and I've had the best and worst of sports teams; - The Mutiny were a great club with great fans but had no support from the league (who owned the the Mutiny & Miami Fusion). I was working for them at the time and the league came in and said "We're folding the franchise", and that was it. - The Buccaneers were one of the worst teams in sports. Then they were bought by a new ownership group (Glazers), got new uniforms, built a new stadium, a whole new attitude, and within a few years, we won the Super Bowl -The Lightning were the same. A new arena, new ownership, and within a few years we won the Stanley Cup My hope is with a new stadium, new logo, new name, new kits......along with it comes a new attitude. We have been perennial 'also-rans' for too long! I really could care less what they calls us, as long as we are eventually called MLS CHAMPS!!!
I think that it was Prk166 that mentioned on the other thread yesterday that Plush said that traditional marketing and media were not working. The problem that I have with Plush's statement is that we have an owner who owns his own network and last season only showed a handful of games. I think that it would help marketing if they had a weekly 1/2 hour show during the season about the team.
He also has a radio network (altitude) and they didn't broadcast many of the games either. The only radio that most games were on was in Spanish. The only way people are going to know about the team is to see it on TV, hear it on the radio, etc. A weekly show would be great too, but let's not get greedy.
I am a real fan. I am a fan of MLS soccer regardless of the teams. That's why go to almost every Rapids game and bring people with me. Some of them support the Rapids now and I don't care. Just as long as they support MLS. I don't know who pissed in your Cheerios but it wasn't me so calm down sir.
I think yesterday the shield was white...now it's gray. So it seems to me that each day they'll add something new to the shield until the new logo shows in it's entirety. With all of this Arsenal talk and "The ball is rolling" stuff...makes me think cannonball. So maybe we'll see a cannon on the logo. We've already got one at the games that goes off whenever a goal is scored. It seems to be all coming together, doesn't it?
I assume something will happen today, unles the FO is even more incompetent than I give them credit for. They did send out a Rapidfire email saying expect an important announcement at the end of the week.
i'm kinda hoping so. Not delivering the goods on something like this is unprofessional. If they want to demonstrate a solid change, coming through today is important. Otherwise, it's just going to look like the same old, same old from KSE with the Rapids. It seems like the rebranding has really taken some time. We heard about this in October of last year IIRC. They should be able to pull it all together by now.
I keep hearing that people have heard from KSE that there will be a press conference today. Has there been any press release or official announcement that this is going to take place today? I would have thought that with a "major announcement" that there would be something on MLS's site with web streaming like with the ASG announcement.
