http://www.sltrib.com/ci_5127328 Not sure if this was already posted, but apparantly there are some secret meetings going on in Salt Lake over possibly saving the team. Your mayor Rocky Anderson sounds like a stand up guy. There's a few proposals there being discussed behind closed doors to keep the media from any more unneccesary scrutiny. But yeah, it's gone international, yo. 2 questions: 1) what's wrong with MLS in downtown SLC? 2) Let's say RSL were able to stay in Utah. It usually takes two years to build a stadium minimum. Where would they play in 2008?
Nothing, except acquiring the land in downtown is a sticky situation. RSL's dream location is owned by Earl Holden, and he isn't giving it up. As I understand it, the legislature can arrange for RSL to stay at RES without any penalties imposed on the U. I can only assume that the legislature could also find a way to temporarily allow the serving of alcohol at RES too, making the extra stay at RES more palpable for the team.
Toronto started construction in May of 2006 and their stadium is scheduled to be played at in April 2007. So a stadium can be done in less than 2 years.
Many factors in that.. Size, design, the contractors, quality.. Long delays can happen too! Just ask the English watching the New Wembley going up..
Well, if the Geneva deal goes through, they could play down at Lavell Edwards stadium to get the Utah County crown involved more before the stadium is finished.
If they go with the Geneva site, I could see them playing the '07 season in the LES just to jam it up Salt Lake County and Caroon's collective arses. I'd actually enjoy making the longer trip just to give Caroon the big middle digit.
At least I can drink a beer while watching in my living room. Sorry, LES is worse than the team moving because I just couldn't handle what would be imposed by Big Brother if the team ever played there. Not to mention it would add an extra hour to my drive on top of the hour it already takes me.
I will. Don't get me wrong, I'd support the team even if the ended up in the UC. But it would be horrible. Sandy wasn't Salt Lake, but the SL in RSL still made sense. RSL coming from Orem. That sucks. I'd struggle to feel any pride or ownership in that.
I'm so tired of hearing this from people on here. The length of your drive does not determine how much of a fan you are or how dedicated to a team you are.
I agree, I drive to SLC quite often anyway because there is not much to do in Ogden compared to SLC. My dedication to the team would be better measured by what I do when I get there.
Have you been smoking crack? Any MLS team leaving its current location is a disaster and not moving soccer forward in the US. As for leaving Utah, I don't think anything could be worse, when I think of all the great experiences that I would not have had.... WCQ, the RM match, shouting at Freddy that he sucks (even though it was a lie), seeing Kreis add even more goals to the top, etc. etc. too many to count and the team hasn't even won any titles. I hope you were joking, it just hurts too much to find it funny.
I drive 3 hours one way to attend DC United matches. I think that makes me a more dedicated fan. Of course, it is DC United.
I would much rather have that then the team move to St. Louis. Atleast then I would still have a team to cheer for.
I don't care if they move the team to Scipio, I'll still root for them. If they go out of state...Chivas, Galaxy maybe.
In a situation like this no news is good news. It means that people are actually working on solutions.
