I must apologize to makkay, whom I scoffed at after he said, just yesterday, "Fire Magath and bring back Ottmar!"

    Never thought this would happen.

    Eagerly awaiting the FCN game.

Because Hoeness and KHR aren't going to admit their mistakes and quit.....

Actually, I think the fans had little to do with it. I think it became crystal clear that Magath had lost what was left of his team.

Same as van Marwijk in Dortmund. Even if a trainer isn't totally at fault, once he loses his team, he has to go........

In your defense, I dont think he foresaw it either. Probably just wishful thinking aloud.

You have to apologize because it happened?? I don't see that. The dude got his wish and it will probably be good for Bayern, but that won't prove that Magath was THE PROBLEM.

Hitzfeld is a trainer who can do more with less than a guy like Magath can.

I hope Hitzfeld proves that he should have never been fired in the first place.

I'll bet you that last night FCN fans were licking their chops anticipating a shot at a limping FC Bayern.

Now, they're probably quaking in their boots.....

I guess a reason they did this is that the stakes are pretty high for Bayern. They'd lose a ton of money if they somehow would drop a few more places in the standings over the next few months and miss out on a European cup spot.

That still doesn't excuse management from not spending that 30+ million on a replacement for Ballack. Then again, what do I know, I'm an 1860 supporter... :p

    Baryen turn to Hitzfeld

Bayern Munich have sacked coach Felix Magath and replaced him with former boss Ottmar Hitzfeld. The club said 'We had to react due to concern over a Champions League place for next season'. [+]

I think you are right in terms of getting Hitzfeld. They need to compete with Madrid AND more importantly...they need to be in the top 3 of the league.

Oh, management need to get some serious blame for a variety of things.

Now what do we do if Nürnberg beat us 3-0 on Friday?

Hopefully Ottmar will light a fire under our players' collective asses.

The danger in all this is, that the management can get away with their mistakes. If Hitzfeld can turn around the sqaud about 180° then they have basically no need to correct their mistakes and revamp the squad. The good thing is that Hitzfeld won't stand idly by if the management is going to do, he will make his demands if he intends to stay longer than the rest of the season. If Hitzfeld does not stay longer - reason don't matter - and another noname (i.e. liek Magath, because Bayern was his first big club) is signed as coach then they can continue their gamble. Any well known foreign coach should behave like Hitzfeld and make his demands squadwise

Not making the CL would be disasterous for Bayern.

Not only were management arrogant in not adequately replacing Ballack immediately, they were greedy in getting van Buyten when they already had a "boss" in central defense (Lucio).

I think they also really should have tried to make a move before the transfer window closes today to get another midfield body in to replace Deisler.

In retrospective I think those rumors about Sagnol accusing Magath must be true. Yesterday it did not make sense why Sagnol missed the game and other reason were suspected, but it after Magath's dismissal it does.

I think this could really boost the morale of the players who were here during the Hitzfeld era.

And maybe this could affect the Hargreaves transfer saga.

Agreed. I do think they realize that they also need more midfielders, but a blind person could see that, but yes...they get hardly any blame.

And who is to say Hitzfeld will succeed with this bunch? Granted, I think most of the pieces are there where we can and probably will be in the top three, but what happens if we don't?

Which is ironic, as Hitzfeld and SAF are good friends

That's part of what this move was about.....

I think he will, but don't be surprised if it takes a week or so.

Ah, so you think there's a 100% chance Hargreaves leaves during the summer?

I didn't say that, but if Man U. are still dangling 30M, it's going to be hard for Bayern to say no to that no matter who the freakin' coach is.

Hitzfeld coming back isn't going to stop Owen from wanting to move to England......
