Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} wow, that was mean-spirited. Did you happen to watch the game?
A first hand account said he showed negative body language all during the game. Maybe it was a bad day or maybe it was lots and lots of frustration coming to head. That is what I was referring to.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} 1. West Ham's midfield has been horrific all year in just about every game that I have seen. As a result, they get killed in the possession battle and their defense (Spector or not) is left combating attack after attack after attack. Some of their acquisitions will hopefully help. 2. Spector is not tall enough/doesn't play big enough to play CB at Premership/International Level from what I have seen of him unless his partner is a Gooch/Terry type who can win a large amount of balls in the air. I would say the same thing probably of Pablo. It is not a damning attack on him and doesn't mean that he is not a good player or capable of playing on that level at CB. Just that he needs to be partnered with a better aerial partner than he is. Dailly is not a good partner for Spector. 3. His play seemed to have dropped in the last couple of games taht I have seen of him on FSC. I have no idea the cause, but in part....all of the changes/etc can't be great for him. 4. Spector's best position is now and will always be d-mid IMHO. He will be very very good Premiership calibre d-mid IMHO. Just a matter of time before he gets put there IMHO.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} To interrupt the Spector love/hate fest... Boothroyd dismayed at Collins John rejection. Citing John for having short term thinking, he brings up the many ways that Watford has improved the status and stature of it's players, including... Okay, now back to the debate.
You have no right to criticize Hammerette if you didn't even see the match. Hamerette said friends and relatives shouldn't read her post, maybe she should have included fan-boys too.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} He can say what he likes, he is entitled to his opinion just as I am. In the past I have posted plenty of positive feedback about Spector, I have said what he does well and have pointed out where he has done poorly. I do try and be unbiased but if a player plays as badly as Spector did today then I'm going to post that too. If you want to view the game you will see how many times he was beaten in the air, you will see how poorly his clearances were out of the box, you will see the incident I referred to when he stopped playing, you will see where he ran straight into Henderson rather than attempt to get the ball. It's all there for you to see. I don't get any satisfaction in giving Spector a hard time, I want all West Ham players to play well. Oh and I am well versed in where the Championship grounds are FC Tallavana, during our 2 seasons in the Championship I missed 4 games home and away in the first season and none in the second. I have seen my team play far worse than today, I have seen us get relegated several times so losing to Watford in the FA Cup is nothing in the big scheme of things.
You are correct Hammerette, people can say what ever they like but that doesn't make an uninformed person's post worthwhile or any less annoying. I remember the days before the internet and all the specialized tv networks when it was next to impossible to find information on our yanks aboard. All of that's gradually changed over the last 12 years or so, but I still value first hand reports from people who are willing to share. There's enough west ham games on tv to weigh your reports against and I've found you to be fair. It just irks me when fanboys want to attack a source of information without having any first hand knowledge of what happened. Keep posting your reports
the reason he had a "supermarket tantrum" is because he was fouled...as a matter of fact, his head was cut open in the first half...he finished the match and got the cut stitched up afterwards. terrible attitude, huh? i guess there is more to every story hammerette.
That's why I hope both of you can stay on and contribute. There are always more than one angle, and the contributions are greatly appreciated.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} A new pairing is going to look bad at times. You need to look no further than Chelsea to realize that a sound defense is based on understanding and coordination between the central defenders. That said, West Ham must have been doing something right defensively (and the central defenders are critical to a good defense), they allowed 6 shots, only one of which was on target, the goal that Carroll gifted them. Four of the other five shots were from 20 yards or more. Obviously Watford isn't Arsenal, but that's decent team defense against anyone.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} This, of course, begs the question of why they only conceded 1 goal, and that clearly all on Roy Carroll, if Spector and Dailly were so horrific. A question that Hammerette leaves completely untouched. Now, casoccerdad touches it, but he is only using objective fact, and we all know how useless and biased objective fact is.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} As much of a fan of Jay Demerit as I am and as much as I'd like to see Watford manage to remain in the premiership.... they are NOT a good offensive team. I know this was an FA cup match, but Watford has only managed 14 goals in 23 EPL matches - even if the West Ham defense was bad today, that doesn't imply that an offense as anemic as Watford's is goign to score more than 1.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} Worst excuse ever. Defenders have to keep playing until they hear the whistle. There's absolutely no excuse for this, it's elementary soccer. Giving up on a play in hopes that the ref will get the call correct is a stupid mistake and worth being raked over the coals. I'd really love to hear the reaction on here if he had done the same thing for the Nats.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} Have you watched Watford play? I'm not surprised Watford's horrific offense could only score one against a horrific defense. FYP I thought we had gotten past the days of trying to analyze a soccer match purely on a few meaningless statistics. Casoccerdad's numbers tell us nothing about the quality of West Ham's defense.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} There are rumors that Mears will be sold (to Derby) while Curbs may be looking at his former cadre in Charlton's central defender Herman Hreidarsson and is willing to send Paul Konchesky the other way + £2M. If the above moves happen, Spector could become a primary back-up at both fullback positions.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} Of course he id he's Rocky balboa. Watford for the Cup!
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} I did not criticize Hamerette's view of the match. I criticized her conclusions drawn from it. Go back and check again for yourself.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} 1. I never challenged what you said about his play. I merely challenged the conclusions you reached based upon it. I did not see this game so I cannot dispute your statements about his play but I have seen lots of games so I can dispute your conclusion that one game is enough to judge a player for the rest of their career. 2. You may know where the grounds are but I bet the train schedules have changed.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} It's funny because one of the things I love about Spector is his combative personality on the pitch. In my opinion it is what has allowed him to step in and play at such a young age. To each their own though.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} Watched the BBC's Match of the Day last night and after the highlights of the match the pundits (Ian Dowie, Gavin Peacock, Lee Dixon) analysed the game. Dowie focused on Demerits performance, showing his highlights alone for a good 30 seconds (3 quality tackles). They were full of praise for his hussle, attitude, and all around definsive performance. Dowie was giving him much love.
Honestly dude, I did not attack her info. I attacked her conclusion. If that makes me a fanboy then we could use a lot more fanboys in this world.
For his sake I really hope he is one of the eight Bradley called in. But, with Bradley saying he's going for experience, I doubt it.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} I agree with you on this one. Spector could have had a poor game, and thats gonna happen especially now that he is young and is on a team that is struggling/frustrated/grossly underperforming. But to say that his career in the middle of the defense is done based on one game where he wasn't directly responsible for a game is a knee-jerk reaction and it was probably good that someone pointed it out. His coaches have had good things to say about his potential after seeing him day in and day out, so I think I'll take their opinions over anyones. And I don't believe it makes someone a "fanboy" for believing this. It proves that they are using common sense. But yes, I do believe that Hammerrette could be spot on when she says he was crap today, because it happens.
Re: 1/27, Spector & DeMerit: West Ham v Watford {R} Glad to see you're back posting in these threads.
