can't explain it better than this....NO English based players will come over for the Mexico game....for if they do it will seriously f up their relationship with their clubs.....a couple/three years ago Diego Forlan left Man Utd to travel to South America for a friendly during the EPL season.....IIRC he never played (or hardly played) for Man Utd again and SAF got rid of him. Its a friendly....in Arizona....in mid week....

    Well to answer your question.....

    Euro Based Mexicans Are

Marquez, Giovanni Dos Santos, Jonathon Dos Santos, Efrain Valdez(All at Barca)

    Fonseca(Benfica/Portugal)

Vela(Salamanca/Spain 2nd) He is on loan from arsenal..he will be promoted to Arsenal senior team on his BirthDay in march

Castillo(Olimpiakos)...And no hes not uruguayan he was born in mexico...He has a Uruguayan dad and a mexican mom

Salcido(Psv/Holland) you may know it as beasleys former team

    Guille Franco(Villareal/Spain)

    Pavel Pardo/Ricardo osorio (Stuttgart/Germany)

    Javier Iturriaga (Athletico Bilbao/Spain)

    Aaron Galindo (Hercules/Spanish 2nd)

    De Negris (Graziantspor/Turkey)

And Andres Guardado Who is still in the Domestic League But will likely be going abroad soon...he has offers to inter milan/Florgentina and some other Serie A team. He turned down real madrid because they werent gonna give him enuff money....

So that makes 15 mexican players abroad....Not as much as the U.S. but on better teams, But as for the game In Febuary only like 5 of those guys may come, any way its gonna be close game...and as for the number of players abroad...Its not about Quantity but Quality, This is gonna be a fun game to watch even if no euro based players come. Mexico Vs Usa is always exciting.

And Sorry to the mexican fans if i have left anyone out...i know mexico has some players playing in lower division teams in europe...i just cant name them all

Just to clear things up on the impossibility of having Euro players at the Mexico game, here's a quote from Bradley:

If you really wanted a Jaqua/Cooper combo than Donovan/Beasley or Dempsey/Convey combo would have to be right underneath. look at this line-up versus Mexico (not necessarily the one i'd go with):

    -----Cooper--------Jaqua----------
    --Beasley-------------Donovan-----
    ---------Carroll----Mastro----------
    --Bocanegra-------------------Dolo
    -------------------Onyewu---------
    ----------Parkhurst-----------------
    ---------------Howard--------------

*Onyewu a little more attacking than Parkhurst.
*Donovan is going to want to push middle; therefore, Dolo is on the right wing so you don't lose anything there.
*Beasley is going to want to push wide; therefore, Bocanegra is there to be a rock and also maybe push into a DM position if we need the extra bodies in the middle.
*Carroll will be sandwiched between Mastro and Bocanegra so we need a guy to string the passes together.

***the problem is that i don't know if we'd have the presence on the wings to actually be effective...so you might see me change the line-up from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2:
    ----------Cooper-----Jaqua--------------
    --------Beasley----------Donovan--------
    Convey----------------------------Cherundolo
    ----------------Mastroeni----------------
    ------Bocanegra--Onyewu--Spector------
    ------------------Howard----------------

Updated starting lineup v. Mexico, post-Denmark match.

I'm assuming that Bradley gets Howard, Bocanegra, Cherundolo, Bradley, Feilhaber, Beasley, Demerit and Onyewu from Europe but not Dempsey (just arrived), Convey (trying to re-enter Reading's starting line-up) or Spector (needed for west ham's relegation battle).

    ------------Howard----------
    Cherundolo-Onyewu-DeMerit-Bocanegra
    -------Feilhaber-------Bradley-----
    ------Donovan----------Beasley----
    ------Cooper-----------Rolfe-------

    Subs:
    G: Reis/Cannon
    D: Conrad, Bornstein, Albright, Boswell
M: Mastroeni, Clark, Mapp, Beckerman, Noonan.
F: Jaqua, Johnson. (Perhaps Ching/Twellman if they're in shape.)

I would also add Onyewu to your list of tentatives. He's slightly unsettled and may be on his way to a top club by the end of the transfer window.

    taking into account the game:

    ---------------Cooper----Rolfe------------------
    ------------------------------------------------
    ---------Mapp-----------------Donovan---------
    -----------------Becks----Clark-----------------
    ------------------------------------------------
    ---Bornstein--------------------------Albright---
    ----------------Boswell---Conrad----------------
    ---------------------Reiss-----------------------

shocking Parkhurst didn't make the 18 man roster for the denmark game.

I think Bradly goes with mostly the same team but Mapp and Cooper have earned starting spots.

    GK: Matt Reis
    RB: Chris Albright
    CB: Jimmy Conrad
CB: Oguchi Onyewu (if not available Bobbie Boswell)
    LB: Jonathan Bornstein
    CM: Pablo Mastroeni
    CM: Ricardo Clark
    LM: Justin Mapp
    RM: Landon Donovan
    ST: Chris Rolfe
    CF: Kenny Cooper

I doubt any U-20s will be there. Jozy not even starting for them at the moment. No apparent reason to select Kamani Hill at this stage either.

One thing to consider is maybe a U-20 might be a bit more match fit than some other options. Although I can't think of any that I'd throw in the game against Mexico.

We're probably looking at pretty much the same crowd that played yesterday.

*posted this in another thread, but this seems more like the right place for it*

The 4-2-2-2 formation yesterday against Denmark was an interesting experiment, and I thought that it enabled us to control possession on the ground with short, quick passes. However, that formation also prevented us from incorporating much width into our attack. How many crosses went into the box? With Nate Jaqua in there in the 1st half and Kenny Cooper in the 2nd, we had two consummate target forwards who excel when given proper service into the box from the wings. But the service just wasn't there.

I thought Donovan and Rolfe/Mapp did fine in their roles as attacking mids, but neither were truly playing as wide midfielders. I'm not saying we should scrap the 4-2-2-2 altogether because I think it's important to experiment as much as possible with formations to find our niche (4-3-3 anyone?). If this 4-2-2-2 can be tweaked to add more width into the attack, it can be very effective (the two holding mids helps shore up our defense and get the counter attack going).

So, here's one suggestion for a starting line-up against Mexico: (4-2-2-2)

NOTE that this isn't who I think our BEST starting XI is, but rather a continuation of player experimentation from yesterday with some Euro additions to bolster our chances.

    ----------Cooper----------Ching-------------
    ---Beasley-----------------------Donovan----
    ---------Mastroeni---------Clark--------------
    Bornstein---DeMerit------Conrad----Cherundolo
    ------------------Howard----------------------

    NOTES:
--Bornstein obviously isn't our BEST option at LB, but he intrigued me with his play and I'd like to see more of him, particularly how he responds in his 2nd start and against a better team. Let's test him. This kid could be a good one, so why not break him in here?

--Jay DeMerit should be the first addition into the line-up. He's been asking for a call-up for almost two years now and deserves the chance. I for one would be glued to him the entire game if he gets the chance--that's how eager I am to see what he can do in a US uniform. Again, he may not be better than Onyewu or Bocanegra, but let's experiment!

--Give Stevie C. the call up at right back to provide a stabilizing force, espeically against Mexico's strong left side that may include sweeping runs from the ever-dangerous Jaime Lozano. Our RB depth is surprisingly thin, so really the only options here are Stevie or Chris Albright (unless we go with some real newbies).

--I gave Beasley the nod at Left Attacking Mid ahead of Bobby Convey because I'm assuming Convey won't be match fit due to his injury layoff. If he is match fit, feel free to insert him in Beasley's place. But still, Beasley killed Mexico the last time these teams played, and his pace can cause real fits for the Mexican defense.

--Ching is mostly a default pick. I'm not sure if he's not eligible for a call up because he wasn't in Bob Bradley's camp, but I say give him a go. He's probably the best option at striker we have right now. Keep in mind that Taylor Twellman will likely still be recovering from hernia surgery and won't be full go.

Its nice to see some ideas at the US line up against the third world nation of Mexico...but what I dont understand is why do you guys like putting 2 of the same players at forward together?

It's apparent a lot of you guys are uneducated on the subject of soccer, as far as the forward position goes for the US Nats, so let me educate you. Kenny Coope, Brian Ching, Nate Jaqua, Conor Casey, and Brian McBride (I know he's retired but he's a great example) are all TARGET forwards. They can't be started together because they all play similar of roles. They're all good in the air, big, and good finishers but they are not very creative and lack good passing and speed. Taylor Twellman, Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Chris Rolfe, and Freddy Adu are all creative and finishers. They play WITH the big men because they compliment them well with their speed creativity and there crossing and passing skills.

(Crossing and Passing + Big Target Foward = Goals)

(Knock Downs Flick On + Speed Creative Forward = Goals)

    Your Welcome ;)

hmmm. on second thought, maybe 4-5-1 might be most appropriate.

    --------------------Cooper---------------------
    ------------------------------------------------
    ---------------------Mapp---------Donovan-----
    ---Bornstein-----------------Clark---------------
    -----------------Mastro-------------------------
    ------------------------------------------------
    ---Pearce-----------------------------Albright---
    ----------------Boswell---Conrad----------------
    ---------------------Reiss-----------------------

    Coop at lone forward.

    Mapp running the attack.

    Donovan as winger.

Bornstein as a two-way left mid. He and Pearce can swap positions in the 2nd half.

    Clark in a two-way role.

I could go for that. I'm not concerned about bringing the Euros over for the match. Let's let some young guys get a run at a team that will seriously want to bury us. I wouldn't even mind if Donovan and Mastro were subbed out early in the second half. There is a chance we could take a whooping, depending on what kind of team Mexico puts out, but it will also be a chance for some young guys to get some seriuos schooling. And we should also be able to start to tell who has the cojones to play at this level. Let's let the young dogs run and see what happens.

It's fairly obvious from Bradley's comments that some Euros will be called up. The only question is how many and who.

Personally I think we've established that Albright is not a good enough defender for top tier international competition. He'll make a lot of rosters because of our lack of better options, but Cherundolo will probably be among those called from europe for this game.

I say Mapp starts because of Convey's current situation and Beasley's lack of recent production. Beasley could still easily be called.

I'm not an expert on the transfer rules, but if Gooch said he's coming over, I believe him.

Howard is a decent possibility since he is on loan anyway and therefore not part of his club's longterm plans.

I don't see any of our Fulham boys coming over because we will need all of them in turn for at least one of the tournaments this summer and we need to be nice for now.

Basically I see a maximum of 5 or 6 guys coming over the pond (not counting Pearce) and I will be surprised if more than one of them is one of the attackers.

Gooch: Maybe. If he's still at Standard

Beasley: No. Needs to earn that transfer to City.

Convey: No. Still getting his fitness back and needs to win back his starting spot.

Boca: Yes. Comfortable in position as number one utililty man for club team.

Dempsey: No. Needs to settle in.

DeMerit: Yes. Cemented in role with club team. A call up would be a fillup for him and good news for a team that's going to get relegated.

Spector: Yes. On the outs with Curbishley at West Ham. A call up would be nice little break from all the drama. Start him at left back.

Dolo: Yes. Ensconsed in role as starter with Hannover.

Against Mexico, I think Bradley will aim for putting a USMNT on the field similar to the squad for the Gold Cup and Copa America at mid-year.

DeMerit scored the winner for Watford yesterday. He deserves his 1st cap. But absent practice with the USMNT, Bradley will not call him up.

Dolo is definitely going to replace Albright (despite the fact that he was under the weather) at RB. Maybe Spector gets subbed in at the half? at his better RB position (since Pearce and Bornstein are both available at LB). Despite the Bornstein score, I think Pearce will start there if he has not returned to Denmark. If he does, maybe Dunivant will get another crack at it.

Boca's gonna fly to Arizona. And the other YAs who Bradley picks can make the long trip and be without pre-game practice and without sacrificing their spot on their club roster - no doubt. Other club players are playing with their national team February 7th.

Having Dempsey, Beasley, Convey to choose from, will force Bradley to sit Mapp. He could be subbed in. Having Onyewu will force Bradley to sit Conrad and Boswell. He's not going to substitute the CBs vs Mexico unless one of them is being burned.

It does seem unlikely that Wolff will come over. An MLSer (and they are in camp) would be as good a choice vs Mexico.

Cooper, Johnson, Rolfe, Jaqua, and Eskandarian are all possible but Cooper and Johnson or Rolfe is my guess. Donovan is a midfielder in Bradley's scheme methinks.

Can we beat Mexico and their new honcho Hugo S. with, at present, a team of jet-lagged YAs and out of season MLSers? I dunno.

Pearce and Callif have already gone back and will not be in camp for the Mexico game.

USSF is supposed to release the camp call-ups/info today. Very interested to see who, if any, of the Euro-based players get here.

    Onyewu
    Dempsey ****
    Convey ****
    Demeritt
    Feilhaber
    Howard
    Lewis
    Spector

That's 10 by my count, but I may be missing someone. I'm guessing Dempsey and Convey will not be coming. Dempsey because of his new team and Convey because of his recent recovery from injury.
