Sorry, just saw this stadium proposal, obviously setup for rugby, but it struck me how perfect it would be for DC United.

Since the last rendering have been pulled from both the English and Espanol DC web page, IMO the general concepts that rendering detailed are still in play, but the concept might look real different than the last pictures we saw.

I just found it funny that I had daydreamed a stadium of a design like this a great one for DC United's plans, which would include a side of a connected hotel facing the pitch. (using the curved roof ala KC's proposal and a three sided stadium Pic out of S. America that escapes recall at the moment)

In my mind the best thing to do would be to build it huge on one side, then slope down to smaller stands on the opposite side much like this design. That would allow a 25-30K stadium to be built now, that could easily be expanded in the future (on the shorter side), and allow for the hotel/main stands a view of our nation's capital/anacosta riverfront in the meantime...

Also would be good for movable stands on the "short" side allowing for stand bounce and a stage for concerts/whatnot.

    Hmm, just dreaming.

Comments...? (other than mom-like scolding for messing with "stadium porn")

So do that make it a RSS (rugby specific stadium)? :p

hehe, I dunno why they bother tossing that "specific" in anymore, esp if a stage is built. Why not just cal it a stadium, and push it as a multi-use facility that would probably have more support than anything termed "specific" for soccer.

    just my .02 cents

Sorry, but Jeremy E.'s Danny Kaye/Angela Lansbury porn on the Near News page is just a little bit sexier.

nah, the one I was thinking of was new (or planned), box shaped, and it was red and white, with a glass wall on one side...

I surfed the World Stadiums site for a short bit, and did not find it.

I hate to say it ... but it looks as though Red Bull Park is going to set the standard for American SSS ... looks like it was pulled straight out of the Coca Cola Championship ...

and this is still the stadium that I think DC should model their stadium after ...

It's nice, but it's way too big. RFK doesn't even hold as many as SJP these days.

I've always loved Kashima. Almost a scaled down version of RFK.

I like FC Molde's new stadium. It almost looks like a redeveloped Poplar Point too.

I think that looks more like a Quidditch-specific stadium than anything else.

Ya know, what if our new stadium had terraces? Would certainly be less expensive to build.

While terraces are not banned in a soccer stadium, they are banned by FIFA for international, FIFA-sanctioned games - All EPL stadiums (and probably most CC stadiums) have been retrofitted to eliminate all their terraces - Word in Argentina is that even La Bombonera will have to undergoe extensive renovations to eliminate its terraces if Argentina wants to use it for any FIFA-sanctioned games, much to the delight of River Plate fans

I'm pretty sure Payne has indicated that the seating along the sides will have a slight curve to them so that the whole field can be viewed completely even from the corners
