No official word on January camp roster yet, but I talked to Greg Ryan about GKs during the Gold Cup. He indicated there are six currently in the pool:

    Hope Solo
    Briana Scurry
    Jenni Branam
    Nicole Barnhart
    Kristen Luckenbill
    Ashlyn Harris

He figures there will be four in residency at Home Depot Center, which will begin in April. The battle is for Nos. 3-4 -- Hope and Briana are locks as long as they're healthy.

A number of players on the bubble will be looked at during the January camp, possibly at Four Nations, the February camp and at Algarve. From that, the "26 to 30" players for residency will be selected. Guest players can come into residency, but for the most part, the roster will come from the 26-30.

No word yet on what the roster will be. Most figure 20, but 21 is possible, too.

O'Reilly also will be on the residency roster, of course, as long as she's healthy.

Amy LePeilbet's knee injury turned out to be an ACL, and officially U.S. Soccer is saying she'll be ready to compete for a spot at the World Cup. I think this is a longshot. Nine months turnaround is tough, and the door is open for another defender.

Greg said he could take seven defenders to China. (And he could change his mind on this, of course.)

Injuries aside, the list would include:

    Kate Markgraf
    Catherine Whitehill
    Christie Rampone
    Heather Mitts
    Lori Chalupny

That leaves two spots open, with Stephanie Lopez and Tina Frimpong the likeliest additions. Jill Oakes could get a look in camp, but it seems she's seen as being behind Lopez and Frimpong.

Unlike you, I have suffered every day since the end of the season, knowing that the best player ever to wear the UNC jersey, has now retired.

Does anyone have any good Heather O'Reilly stories for those of us not as fortunate to attend that many games?

So you're saying that since the end of the college season, you've been bummed out that Mia Hamm has retired. Or is that Debbie Keller?

from sports illustrated online's high school players on the rise:

    Courtney Jones

    Girls' Soccer
    Monte Vista (Danville, Calif.)
    Class of 2008

Jones' father is former San Francisco 49ers tight end Brent Jones and she shows that athletic prowess doesn't fall far from the tree. As a sophomore, she led the East Bay Athletic League in scoring during the regular season with nine goals and eight assists and finished with 14 goals and 13 assists overall. Jones has already to committed to the nation's top soccer program, North Carolina.

Already wearing Tar Heel blue, I had to do a double take looking at the picture, because I thought for sure the first time around it was a Carolina jersey.

Does the "Student Sports" website still do recruiting pages in subscription issue?

Happy holidays to everyone for whatever holiday you celebrate(d)!

Jones and Givan should be a good start on replacing the HeaO. Happy Holidays to GO COURAGE and everyone except the trolls. I should copy the VCR tape to DVD or something before it wears out. My case is getting pretty full. Other schools can store theirs in a kleenex box.....

I've begun reading the new book on Anson and have recognized so many faces from the past and so many memories and realized that I should stick to my guns. If you have never played the game you should keep your mouth shut and if you have I have your deepest respect, especially if you are female. Enough said.

Two new recruits listed in Soccer Buzz for 2007, in addition to Givens who was mentioned above in the thread

Leslie Briggs F/M Carrollton,TX Parish Episcopal School
Rachel Givan F Ridgeland,MS Ridgeland HS
Katie Klimczak D Elk Grove,IL Elk Grove HS

The two new additions don't quite have the experience on their bios.

Also of note that I hadn't seen posted, was that HeO was awarded the NSCAA scholar woman's athlete of the year. Scha-bang. If that doesn't say volumes about her work ethic, I don't know what does. Spending time training with the women's NT, leading the Tar Heels to their 18th national championship, and still finding time to compile a 3.4 GP. Not a bad use of her time.

    Add to that list:
    Erin Mikula (OH)
    Merritt Mathias (AL)
    Courtney Jones (CA)
    Meghan Klingenburg (PA)
    Rachel Wood (CA)

Haven't heard anything about Jessica McDonald, but know she didn't academically qualify last year and could not attend. She was playing soccer at a community college in AZ.
