I just hope we don't get a "Dead to Me" title;)

I can't figure out how to post my photo with Esky from the last team happy hour, but I have so many great memories...

as a cut up at putt putt
    cracking the goal in seattle
and seeing him own MLS cup 2004 after having traveling 38 hours to get there

maybe this is just a temporary thing, like Jaime to Jersey -- kinda like training camp for slightly wounded warriors

Goodbye Alecko and good luck in Toronto. I've always thought that you were a real class act.

PS. Someday you'll probably put one in our net. It's OK to celebrate, but please don't spit on the fans by doing a "Lisi" or a "Tino" act on us.

At last year's season opening luncheon, I cornered Eski and asked him what advice he would have for a 10 year old who wanted to be a professional soccer player. His answer was, "Just go out and play and enjoy every minute of it."

Alecko, if you are reading this go out and take your own advice. Life is so full of sh!t, getting traded to another team is pretty minor in the grand scheme of things. Best of luck to a great guy.

We are really going to miss you Esky... Thank you for everything you did for us... DC United wouldn't have won the cup without you in 04... and we definitely wouldn't be where we are without you... You were a big part of the team, and of the fans... Best of luck... Hope you become a scoring monster again with TFC... and if you happen to do it against us, so be it man.. I'll still applaud you.

    Best.

So bummed out... where is my paintball gun.. c'mere kitty...

Question is who are DC going after if they are letting some of their top players go?

Someone in Brazil... Other than that, your guess is as good as mine... But at the pace they are going, this player better be someone just short of God himself.

Wow, I don't quite know what upsets me more, now. The fact that he got traded, or that DC United didn't have the decency to clue him in on this beforehand. He is soooooo going to be missed. I will always cheer him on, no matter where he plays. Here's hoping DC United finds the good sense to bring him back--I don't want to see him skedaddling to Europe!!!

I wish him nothing but the best. I am just sorry I never had a chance to meet him at any of the Barra Brava events--that's what I get for being a new supporter this season.

I was hoping for a showdown, too, with miniature golf. I learned my skills on the Jersey Shore each summer--he's not the only one with Jersey cred!

I'm just as miserable today as I was yesterday. This pain won't go away quickly.

Thanks, Alecko. My best to you on and off the field.

How do we know DC didn't tell him before the press. I'm guessing he was told but what he is complaining about is they didn't tell him he was the subject of trade talks before the deal was done only after the deal was sealed.

This was a real gutpunch for me. I had my doubts about him when United drafted him. I thought his temper was going to be a problem. He proved me wrong, and how!

What a great representative for our club. I'm going to miss him.

Ouch. Down here in Houston, just found out about this today. Merry f'in Christmas to you, gocaps - DC traded your favorite player :(

Them's the nature of the sports business, though. If we bring in stud players as a result of this and get better, then it makes sense. But we'd better get better...

Wow, this sucks. I will miss you, Eski, one of my favorite DCU players of all time. Good luck in Canada (except when playing us).

In honor of Alecko's new team and its fans .......

Don't want to be a Canadian idiot

Dont want to be some beer swillin' hockey nut
and do I look like some frost bitten hosehead
I never learned my alphabet from A
    to Zed

They all live on donuts and moose meat
and they leave the house without packin' heat
never even bring their guns to the mall
and you know what else is too funny
    their stupid monopoly money
can't take 'em seriously at all

Well maple syrup and snow's what they export
they treat curling just like it's a real sport
they think their silly accent is so cute
    can't understand a thing they're talking aboot

sure they got their national health care
cheaper meds low crime rates and clean air
then again well they got celine dion
eat their weight in kraft macaroni
and dream of driving a zamboni
    all over saskatchewan

Don't want to be a Canadian idiot
Won't figure out the temperature in Celcius
see the map they're hovering right over us
tell you the truth it makes me kinda nervous

always hear the same kind of story
break your nose and they'll just say sorry
tell me what kind of freaks are that polite
It's gotta mean they're all up to something
so quick before they see it coming
    time for a pre-emptive strike

Good luck (relatively) in The Great White North

We don't know. The only thing that bugs me a little bit now is that, IIRC, this is the third time a starter has been dealt and has made this complaint. Agoos, Petke, and now Esky all claimed they weren't told. I hope that means that they expected to be informed of being the subject of trade talks (which is crazy) and not that the team didn't tell them before the press found out.

When I heard Brian was trialing elsewhere I was upset but I figured I could take just about anything except them trading Esky(and thought really what are the odds they go and do that!). He's my absolute favorite player and the only reason I agreed to come back and see another DC game when I wasn't big into soccer. Then while I'm on the other side of the FREAKING planet I find out they went and did it. Good thinking on their part, if I'd have been in the country I might have stormed the DC office in protest. I had to read it in an EMAIL - I almost started crying and there was no one who understood.

I honestly think it's a big loss for the team, even if he didn't score a huge # of goals last season. Esky, I'll miss you. He was awesome on and OFF the field. I'm sleep deprived and about to cry again. Damn it. F**ckers

There's not much else to say that hasn't already been said.

Alecko is a great guy and the team will really miss him next spring.

I've enjoyed his sportsmanship and dedication to the team over the past few years, watching him fight back from injury. Whether on the field, in interviews, or at the youth fan club autograph session he has always seemed like a great guy, good-natured, hard working, and a team player.

I hate this rapid turnover of players. You thrill to the players on the field and come to think of them as "part of the family" and then the front office changes the situation. When will the madness end? Last year Dema, this year Nicky and Alecko. I hope that Bobby and Ben are still there in the spring or it will be gray days ahead.

He played with heart and made us smile (think Red Bulls)

I sincerely wish Alecko individual success on the field (provided that at RFK it still ends with a win for DC United).

I love his expression on this picture. He and Dema live on in the Black and Red in the background on my computer desktop. (I had trouble posting the image, hope it works! - but it was posted earlier in the thread)

Good Luck and God Bless Alecko!!!
