Ferdinand, Nesta, Lucio? I don't know who is the best. I think Sergio Ramos will eventually become a quality player, and also Vincent Kompany becoming great defenders. United's back four dominating the EPL, with probably the best defence in Europe at the moment. Terry, Nesta, Ferdinand up there with the best definitely, but what do you think? :)

I am sorry but you asked what I think, I think you need to be watching a bit more international football instead of watching to much EPL. Don't get me wrong, they are all good defenders you mention, but at some point I actually had to think is he being serious or just trying to get people to react.

The best defenders in the world are in no particular order: Cannavaro (the greatest of the moment) , Zambrotta, Thuram, Roberto Ayala, Lucio,Gonzalo Rodriguez, Alex, Ricardo Carvalho, Chris, Ferdinand, Luis Perea, Van Buyten, Terry.

    Does this include fullbacks?

As for CBs, Ferdinand, Chivu, Van Buyten, Terry, Puyol have been very good this season.

    Cris!

He's so underrated on the Brazilian national team. Don't get how he's always overlooked, but at least that leaves him match fresh for Lyon.

You wanna talk about an underrated Brazilian defender? How bout Bremen's Naldo, the guy is a monster going forward and is a free kick specialist and a great header of the ball and has 7 goals to his name so far this season.

Another player who has really revitalized his career is Roma's Christian Panucci. Has been in terrific form all season long.

    How about some germans?

    Mertesacker and Lahm are good.

Good call on Panucci. Andrea Barzagli of Palermo has done well this season as well, despite the 4-0 spanking Roma handed Palermo :D :D Philippe Mexes has been very good.

Yeh there really good, and young.

Yes, agree with the defenders and im mentioning who the best in Europe in paticular leagues. I do watch international football, but i didnt mention them, just i think the EPL has more defensive quality, and is a more physical league.
International players; Hossan Kaebi - Iran, Van Buyten, Cris, Alex, Raul Albiol definently stars for the future.

Zambrotta, an great all-rounder. He attacks well, and defends reasonably well too.

Gianluca Zambrotta & Ashley Cole, both attack well, and defend well too.

Have you been watching any of reals matches? He is making samuel look like bobby moore. in the recre game it was like watching a cross between buster keaton and charlie chaplin playing football. no doubts that he is a great player, but hs current form is beyond dismal.

Cannavaro has had some disastrous games, but also a number of very solid games, too. Anyway, it's true that he's notin good form and Ramos has been our best CB, IMO.

    Mertesacker

a great young talent that proved his worth in the World Cup and is now an important part of Werder Bremen's success.

Woodgate deserves to be mentioned. It's criminal how his stunning performances always go unnoticed.
