Another player from FC Porto who soon can become a Portuguese citizen and is offering his services for the National team: http://www.ojogo.pt/22-289/artigo596666.htm

I for one think we are well served in the "trinco" role in our NT. R. Meireles did a heck of a job when he was called recently for his 1st game and I still believe Custodio will come back to the form from last year, but hey, last year Paulo Assuncao was among the best at his position (Andres Madrid from Braga was a close second IMO).

    comments anyone? :D

O Record also reporting this piece of news. Paulo Assunção says "it would be an honor to play for Portugal". Apparently he has already played for the Brazilian Under-20 NT but somehow would still be eligible to play for Portugal NT :)confused: ). I don't know how that's possible but more news are sure to come: http://www.record.pt/noticia.asp?id=728909&idCanal=17

i think if you play for the U21 team of a nation you must play for that nation anything under that you are free to choose.

I agree, the only advantage Costinha has on this guy is that he's better in the offensive set pieces (just ask Man Utd :D )

Please here we go againg...I can see it now...Assuncao is the best player in the Superliga:rolleyes:

CSD do you want to do a tale of the tape with him and Moutinho:D

And he will never play for Portugal...just like Pepe will not play for Portugal...

As stated before we are not France or Holland who will Naturalize everyone for the glory of winning a WC...

We would have to find a dwarf tape for your man! :D

I predict Pepe will get the callup from Scolari, not so sure w/ PAssuncao...

BTW, I would do a tale-of-the-tape between Paulo Assuncao and Custodio (because they play similar positions), but 1st Custodio would have to find himself out of the bench! :D

I mentioned Moutinho because he plays any Midfield position. He is clearly the best Midfielder in Portugal and the next great NT player.

Anyone who debates that needs to clean off their lenses...whatever color they may be:D

I'd rather have Manuel Fernandes, Joao Moutinho, Custodio, Raul Meireles, or any other Portuguese player selected before Paulo Assuncao. Same goes for Pepe, he's a good player, but I'll take Ricardo Rocha, Tonel, Ricardo Costa, Ze Castro, etc. over him. Do we want to root for Portugal, or do we want to root for Brasil B (C)?

no im just pissed that these ******** think that just because they cant play in brazil they could come up here. if i were to accept brazilians to come to portugal is if they have a choice and both teams want them... like brazil and portugal wanting a brazilian player then letting the player pick thats even wrong but more acceptable then these players wanting to play for portugal just becuase they cant play for brazil.

i think the rule only applies to official "A" level matches. for example daniel fernandes has played u-21 for canada but now he is playing for portugal.

Funny that you guys write these things...

Right now in Portugal...the Lampioes biggest star is an ex SCP product and the biggest star on the Tripeiros is an ex SCP product...so watch who you hate...as he may be on your team next year:D

    Hypocrites...

That comment is true. but then again it just shows how sporting can't hold onto their talent, or at least can't hold onto them as long as possible.but then again neither can Benfica

Custodio is not a star by any means....... and won't end up playing in Porto or Benfica.

It's funny how all these ex-sporting players only achieved superstar status once they actually leave Sporting.

You know how stupid you sound saying that. Quaresma while very, very talented is hardly a "Superstar" just yet and he had his stint with Barcelona as did Simao...

So what you are saying is that Barcelona doesn't want "superstars"

Or what you are saying is that these players can only play for small teams like Porto and Benfica where there is little or no pressure:D
