I went to US Soccer site to check this statement about being on the U-21s

She was not on the rosters for both '05 and '06 Nordic Cups, the primary reason (and historically the only reason) for the U-21 team to exist. She did play a few games early in ’06 but was not on any game rosters after that.

Come on Tarheel fans let the trash talk begin. MRAD12 is a hater and right now it's Tarheel time which means winners...look up the definition of champion and you'll find a one word descripition DYNASTY. So "loser in the 1st rd" scu fans call me and I'll let you hold my National Championship hat. How good is Anson, he beat ND with seven freshmen, and UCLA, and TX A&M and the beat goes on. And you think UNC has any thing in common with Penn St. Really, I remember all you haters saying UNC can't play soccer they kick and run and then sub sub sub...well hold the trophy high Heather cause kick and run wins championships.

Indeed. I'm rather shocked at some or the "poor winning" going on here amongst the fans. Carolina won, why sweat the "small stuff"?

because i was terrified the "small stuff" was going to get one of the tar heels seriously injured. and when a team plays without class they should get called on it. i really wish i could have said nice things about notre dame (see: a&m and ucla) and avoided any appearance of "bad winning", but unfortunately i can't

Actually, I think from Anson's last couple of books, he enjoys coaching players who will tear the throats out of their opponents and teammates... In fact, you didn't read the chapter/paragraphs about how Anne Felts spent her birthday and the first day of practice did you? I might not call it anomosity, but I would be willing to bet competitively you don't have to be friends with the teammates so much as you have to be able to play with them and know their abilities... consider one NT player yelling to one former NT coach about one very talented teammate... "...if she can't play get her the **** off the field..."

I'd refer any questions about the subject of competitive sports and friendships to Kobe or Shaq...

checking in on the rumor mill . . .

I heard one of the announcers say that Ashlyn had been called into camp for the full Nationals; anybody know if this is true and if anyone else was called?

any word on recruits for next year? we could sure use some more defenders! and midfielders!

what exactly was Jess' injury, the prognosis? time out?

    thanks

Yep. It's a competitive team, not a slumber party. The WUSA tried to market itself that way, too - and Charmaine Hooper (a great player, indeed) quickly disabused that notion in Atlanta. There will always be close friends and cliques on teams. There will always be the unreachable "loners". The only thing that matters is what happens while the ball is on the field.

First of all Cornbread1, I am not a UNC hater. I've followed UNC soccer for years. In fact I know some parents of former players because they would see me at many UNC games around the country. However, I like fairness. That's just me. I don't enjoy trash talk like you do. I was for a match up Sunday between the two best teams IMO in the country ND and UNC and who ever won, won. I thought that would be better than another rematch between Florida State and UNC.
Let me ask you guys one question, We all like Shannon Boxx. Right? We like how agressive she is and takes no prisoners. Right? We feel right now on the National Team that she is the only one that can counter act the physical play of the Germans if we face them in the World Cup. Right? Well, she's a Notre Dame "Domer". She plays Notre Dame style soccer. Very agressive. But we like that in Shannon box. I'm just saying Notre Dame is not a dirty team, their style is different from UNC and even Santa Clara's.
And Cornbread1, next team I come around down there, maybe I'll meet you guys and say Hi. I'm a pretty good guy who just loves soccer.

I'm not all that enthused to see our players on the NATS and in a more aggressive arena. We haven't seen but maybe 4 half games out of Ashlyn. She didn't look anywhere near 100% to me on Sunday. If you watch the ND goal again, she had her feet planted just in front of the line and couldn't jump to touch the bar. Hmm. It's great to have former players on the NATS but I wish they'd keep their hands off our undergrads. Just a thought. As for the whining from visitors to the UNC thread, we used to ignore or block out trolls. Maybe a return to that practice would be good.

OK. If that's all you want is one big North Carolina huggy, huggy, love fest where you circle the wagons around your team, without any critically objective comments, that's fine.

You guys remind me of some Cub fans that go to Wrigley Field and drink the Cub cool-aid and you can't say anything critical about the cubs or they get mad and accuse you of being a Cub hating Sox fan.

One more question for some of you guys. I lived for many years in South/North Carolina area and I noticed that there is a big anti-Notre Dame bias/hatred in no matter what sport but especially football. Why is that?
I went to the ND/North Carolina football game this year in South Bend and the Irish fans treated North Carolina fans very hospitably. I don't understand what this hatred of Notre Dame is.

Kind of switching the topic, but if anyone happened to tape this weekend's UNC games, drop me a note please. I'm looking to add to my collection.

You can find me most of the time far away from the UNC fan base, where nobody knows are cares what my name is. Because of my kids and their jobs I prefer to stay out of the spot light. My brother sits with the parents, cause his middle girl played at UNC, but he did'nt even go to the F-4 this year. The style of a teams play is determine by the coach, so ND's team dose'nt have the race horses like UNC, more like plow horses, as a result that team will never play on the edge like UNC. If ND tried play UNC all out like the last 4min of the game UNC wins 6-2 every time. The coach should stop telling his players that they are better than UNC and just try to win the game. FSU bunker last year and played for the shoot out and won...so what did they do this year, lost twice from being proud.

the difference between the tar heels and the cubs is that the tar heels don't suck. a lot of criticism toward the heels at least appears to stem from jealousy, while most of the criticism of the cubs is probably pretty accurate. also, from what i've gathered no one particularly likes notre dame anywhere in the country; that being said i haven't noticed any more antipathy toward the irish in north carolina than i have toward any other school

    Dear Tarheel fans.

I am tired of the bluster many of you bring to this forum. I long for the days of intelligent soccer discusion; the days of Carvaggio and the Heeligans. Bluster does not bring respect; it only brings trolls. The UNC program speaks for itself. I think the chest thumping must be the reason many of our longtime participants have retired, and I miss them.

I also despair over the attacks on individual player such as Kerri Hanks. These kids play for peanuts, not 50M contracts. Give them a break.

Meanwhile back to the reason I posted tonite. Based on the last NCSAA poll, UNC beat the number 2,3,4,5,6,10,11,14,18,19,and 21 teams this year; quite an accomplishment.

I hope that all womens soccer team including ND continue to improve, because I believe that Anson, Dino and Bird will be one step ahead of them.

I haven't heard much about the 3,4,3 formation. Critics have said for many years that the only reason it works is Anson recruits the best players and substitute more that anyone else. But with parity, the former argument seems shakey, and I would have to believe from what I see, Anson doesn't substitute anymore that anyone else.

Anyone else up for intelligent discussion?

    A loyal fan.

The reason that some of our fans have disappeared is more from health reasons than anything. I do miss them. I also miss the fantastic players from days gone by, like Annie Felts. I remember when she was badly injured in a scrimmage with somebody (Texas A&M) at Finley Field and it seemed like she still wanted to get up and play. That's the Tarheel spirit. Coach, it's just a flesh wound, put me in!

    Re: Tarheels 2006

    Hello Moheelfan,

I called my brother when I read your post, and Sir711 sends season greetings to you and family. And wants to say thank you again for all the kindness you showed to Leea. Sir711 dose'nt post or even read this board anymore for two reasons, one it's just talk and Sir711 is'nt much at all on idle talk, two he has a 12 yr old that talks about nothing else other than playing at UNC. And he thinks parents are to sensative when the talk gets directed at a player rather than at the game. But I will add my thoughts on Sir711, the fans of UNC, super his words, but the people that are'nt worry him. So he thinks it best to stay away and pray. So I salute you MOheellfan and all the parents of Tarheels present and past

i'm sorry, i don't think i made myself clear. the question was why do north/south carolina people hate notre dame so much and what i was trying to convey is that if there is any ill will toward notre dame then i don't think it is unique to north/south carolina. i have nothing against notre dame, and if there is any antipathy it's probably due to their continued football success, similar to the bad vibes the yankees, etc get

Welcome back Moheelfan! Greetings of the season to you and yours. I posted some thoughts on the 3-4-3 and Anson's critics on a separate thread [reflections of a UNC observer] precisely because I didn't want the discussion to get bogged down in the woofing and sniping that goes on here, and the resulting posts have been refreshingly civilized.
