There's differing reports. According to a Sun journalist, he has 4 days to prove himself. http://www.manutd.com/default.sps?pagegid={B4CEE8FA-9A47-47BC-B069-3F7A2F35DB70}&newsid=383115 The Mirror however say he's already been rejected. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footb...objectid=18183826&siteid=94762-name_page.html My head hurts...
unless they've randomly cut short his trial, it's for 2 weeks. seriously, these are all tabloids. And this is carrington. You'd have a better shot of reading about someone snatching Barbara Bush's purse than getting info out of Carrington
By all accounts he was a complete crock, as expected. The only reason we would sign the kid is to make money from dumb Yanks on shirt sales and the like.
can you be any less specific? In the meantime there is this from the AP MANCHESTER, England (AP) -- American teenager Freddy Adu is returning home after a two-week trial with Manchester United. The Ghanaian-born attacking midfielder trained with players from the club's youth academy, and Red Devils manager Alex Ferguson said Friday he would consider looking at the promising 17-year-old again. "I can't do anything with him because he's not 18," Ferguson said. Under FIFA transfer rules, Adu, who plays for MLS club D.C. United, is not allowed to transfer to a club outside the United States until he turns 18 on June 2, 2007. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_y...mw7YF?slug=ap-manunited-adu&prov=ap&type=lgns
MANCHESTER, England (Ticker) - Teenage prodigy Freddy Adu must wait until next June to learn whether Manchester United will try to sign him. The young United States international has just completed a two-week trial with the Old Trafford outfit, during which time he trained with United's academy team. However, while Adu - the youngest player to be capped by the USA - impressed Ferguson during his time in England, under UK employment legislation, the Red Devils boss cannot even consider whether to offer him a contract until he reaches his 18th birthday on June 2. "Freddy has done all right," Ferguson confirmed. "He is a good talented young boy but there is nothing we can do about him. What we did was to bring him here to give him an idea of what United was like, so he could see the place and see how comfortable he was with it. http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news?slug=manunitedadu&prov=st&type=lgns
Don't the British media know their OWN laws anymore? The UK laws say he can't sign a professional contract until he's 17. FIFA Laws mandate that he can't transfer to a different until he's 18.
For those of you who actually bothered to read the posted article. https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?p=10137801#post10137801
Odd to me that diehard Manchester United supporters would gleefully celebrate the apparent failure of a trialist at the club.
I view the reaction as a toxic mixture of anti-american sentiment, fear of a "fanboy" influx and a general distaste for massive hype without demonstrated substance, all of which have little to do with the player. If Teso heard from reputable sources that he blew the trial then good riddance to Adu. Sir Manchester's reaction to Teso's information is juvenile schadenfreude.
even after ferguson said he was very talented. "He is a very confident and talented boy but nothing can be done just yet. He will go back to the United States and we will keep a check on him. Then, when he is 18, we will have to assess what we can do next."
You pegged us buddy... We hate Americans.. Approximately 85% of this forum are American.. So are you saying we are anti ourselves?? Do us a favor, click your heals 3 times and go back to Kansas Dorothy...
He's scottish, he's been dealing with it all his football supporting career, he wants to take solice in shit like this. Dont mind him.
HAhahahsahahah Two members of this board who you should never take seriously, are those two. Secondly, like Jay said, atleast 85% of this board is american so what the ******** are you saying man?
many american soccer fans have a bit of an inferiority complex regarding their status as a "true fan" of a European based club and often overcompensate with a bit of self-loathing and harsh criticism of the state of the game and the players in their native land I'm not ascribing this attribute to you [jayro] but your humorously sensitive response to my fairly benign post suggests that you probably suffer from more than a twinge of this affliction. without doubt, some of the harshest critics of america, and particularly american soccer, are americans themselves.
There was never going to be any other outcome from this trial because of Adu's age. Furthermore, Fergie is not going to come out and say that Adu sucked, nor is he going to say the Adu wowed everyone. For me, I'm enjoying the schadenfreude, but only as it pertains to the disappointed fanboys.
Any fan, American or otherwise, who gets worked up about being or not being a "true fan" is silly. In this case, I'd say most of the anti-Adu sentiment is related to the over-sized hype machine that follows the young man around.
