As a followup to this thread, there's now a blog thread here regarding stadiums (new and proposed) in San Jose. While the Earthquakes weren't mentioned in the opening post, the detractors already opened up against the Quakes and any posibility of their return, as well as against The Epicenter. Once again, Quakes fans, your help will be much appreciated! GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I'm not sure that website is worth the energy in my fingers. I just don't think it's the place to take the fight. The people there have their minds made up one way or another and are all bitter about something. I do read that website from time to time as I enjoy the original posts, but the responses just aren't really worth the time.
It's true that many of the regular posters on San Jose Inside are bitter, closed-minded folks, but the blog also has a large population of silent observers, many in a position of prominence in the media and in civic affairs, so I cannot agree that those wishing to post reasoned defenses of a soccer stadium are wasting their time.
Yeah, well reasoned defenses are always good no matter where they are posted. So I can't argue with that....
Anthony Dominguez is a delusional, soccer-hating A's fan. He has had a couple of his "letters to editor" make it into the print Merc in the past year, and they have always contained an anti-soccer (stadium) element to them. He regularly posts on marinelayers A's stadium blog and doesn't hesitate to slag on soccer and the efforts to bring the Quakes back. Any mention of a soccer stadium at the Diridon site sends him into a tizzy since he is clinging onto some fantasy of hope that the A's stadium will somehow get built there.
What's kind of goofy is that, while I agree with the general sentiment towards Anthony Dominguez, I find his post #23 to be . . . reasonable, I guess? Hey, if it's built in San Jose, I'd take it!
One of his major problems seems to be a delusional obsession with the idea that the A's could somehow set up shop in Santa Clara County. As anyone who has any knowledge of MLB's positions, that's Giants territory and no-go for any other major league baseball team.
He an I (Earthshaker) went back and forth on marinelayer's blog, and I felt by the end he had "softened" somewhat.
I tried posting there earlier today but I guess I was not insightful enough to make it. Perhaps I slandered someone. He was a public figure, and I'm entitled to my opinion...
And let's not forget, soccer has had it's share of delusional supporters along the way. Quakes fans have managed to piss off quite a few fans of other sports (baseball and SJSU football come to mind). I guess there's two sides to every debate, huh?
I posted there once. It took about 5 hours for my post to show up. I thought I'd been banned too, but I guess there's some kinda screening it goes through. Most posts eventually show up though.
I tried to post there couple of weeks ago. I tried 3 or 4 times with various different responses, but not a single post of mine made it. It's not clear what their moderation policy is.
Hmmm.... That's strange. Did you check back much later after you posted? I have this idea that there's like one guy moderating the place trying to keep out totally insane posts (like insane, not simply public figure bashing cuz that happens all the time) and spam. Sometimes I see no reponses to anything for hours, and then all of the sudden dozens of posts pop up.
Yes, like 2-3 days later. In my first post, the only public figure I bashed was Anthony Dominguez, if he even qualifies to be a "public figure". Following that, my subsequent posts were a lot less caustic, and not bashing anybody in particular. But I guess the moderator simply decided to block me outright, based on the first post. Anyway, I've decided to not post there anymore. I'll live without that just fine.
I bashed the mayor and insightfully responded to the theme of the article, which is "Why are there no stadiums in San Jose". Because the mayor wanted a baseball team that was never going to come here, I said. Haven't checked to see if it made it yet today....
Don't give up hope yet. It took the longest time for my latest post there to finally appear. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
