It is not the last chance saloon for DeMerit and Watford, but it's certainly next door to it. Watford need to start building points, and few will be more important than against those at the bottom. Even dropping two would be a very bad sign, three is a mini-disaster. With the number of points left, clearly they can climb out of the relegation zone. But, realisitically, many of those points simply are out of reach.
Games like this one mean a ton. A problem for Watford is that this will be equally true of teams such as Sheff Utd, who will be desparate to distance themselves from the bottom three as well.
In other word, a very big game,

I have to say this is one of the worst games I have ever had the displeasure of seeing in my life. These two teams have no quality players to win this game at all. Guess its why relegation is evident for them both.

Off to watch the second half now :)

What is worse than Watford's play on the pitch is their supporters with that damn "yellow army" chant.

They only know one song, and it isn't even a song!

    agreed

also the highlight of this game is the "towel" controversy. Talking more about cleaning balls than what is actually happening on the pitch.

i watched the last 35 minutes of the game and jay looked and played well when he was involved in the play, winning balls on the ground and in the air. the last 35 miutes were also very heavy in united pressue so jay was under the gun....he wasnt at fault for the goal, which came off a free kick.

I watched the game, sad as it was, and could not believe the announcers were saying nothing of Webber being in an offside position on the goal. I kept replaying it on my TiVo to try and find out why I was wrong. Than they showed the Watford manager and he was not protesting nor were any of the Watford players.
I was rooting for the Blades but I was sure that the goal should not have counted.

Marlon King's injury doomed Watford to the inevitable drop weeks ago.

He was the only dynamic attacking option they had as Young is still too rough around the edges to be counted on week in week out.

So is DeMerit 1st division material, or is he more Cola Division?

I've been a leading voice in trying not to start shoveling teh dirt on Watford just yet, but this was a huge loss. I had always pointed out they had played relatively well, and hadn't had a chance against as many bottom dwellers. Lets face it, Watford's goal this year is to finish 17th. Anyway, this was a game they needed to win ... and while they probabaly were good enough for a draw.... the 3 points were valuable as Sheff Utd is in a similar situation.

As to the "What is Demerit's level?" ---- Please lets not get there just yet. Jay's skill may or may not be equal to the teams most recent performance(s). Just because Watford loses doesn't mean he's in over his head - nor vice versa. So far thsi year Jay has had some excellent games (Best XI type), and had some real stinkers and had some in between. My guess is that he's probably Premiership quality but lower-middle ---- this is my rating of him to date. But we're going to need the rest of hte season to really find out what will happen. Just because Watford may head down, doesn't mean he'll be with them.

It may well be that DeMerit is a club man, and therefore a watford man, for a while. They plucked him from obscurity and gave him a chance, which he grabbed.
Fair play, Watford gave and has received, but I wouldn't be surprised if Watford go down to see DeMerit one of the first to pledge his loyalty (not saying he'd have other options, i don't know).

To be honest, I think you could be right here.
From the little I've seen, it seems Jay wouldn't look out of place in the Premier League, but could very well stay in the Championship

He and the Hornets are married.
The fans would tear the club apart if they let him get away.

    Seriously.

And, while in the modern game it may seem anachronistic, or simply stupid, I have a great deal of respect for that (maybe, given what I've seen and read about him I'm projecting this old school, hard and loyal thing onto him. I suppose if the money came, he'd probably be on the first train. Like to think not right away, at least.).
