this sounds very strange but I hope we lose, it's the only way we can get rid of GN and out football can be rescued. we need a disaster in order to be able to wake up at this point.

    outside your realm
if thats the case then you should have hoped we lost every single game we ever played until we get a decent coach for once.

interesting to hear this here too.

There are some Koreans in Korean boards who say the same thing to get rid of the current head coach, Pim Verbeek.

Anger over the whole controversy of taking players from the K-League finals' teams' players have is bringing a huge public outrage among the fans in Korea.

They're taking players from the finals for a friendly? OMG.. Did they threaten the players with their national team futures if they said no or something? Strange..

The matter is very complicated, and it still isn't really resolved.

It was all due to the horrible scheduling on the part of the KFA and the K-League. And Verbeek is getting all the unnecessary blame I think.

On the 15th, there's a game between Korea and Iran. On the 14th, there's a game between U21 Korea vs U21 Japan. And on the 19th, there's the K-League finals between Suwon and Seongnam. On the 21st, there's another game between the U21 Korea vs U21 Japan.

Added to that unlike most other Asian Game squads, South Korea has not started a training camp yet(Iran, for example, has the AG squad already playing games in Brazil at the moment). So preparing for the AG has to start soon too.

Afshin Ghotbi, one of S.Korea's assistant coaches also mentioned this at an interview:

    ------------
Kaveh – We read that you will not have some of the players that will be in the Asian Games with this team. Why is that?

Afshin - The congested K-League matches (FA Cup, K-League play-offs), the Asian Champions League Final (Chunbuk Motors), and the 2 friendly games against Japan on the 14th and the 21st of November have made our preparation against Iran a huge challenge and complicated. We have tried to make the best of the circumstances by approaching the challenge positively, systematically and diligently. This process will make the Korean National Team better in the long run, as many young players will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience in international football, and we will learn a lot about each player by seeing them first hand in various environments.
    ---------------

What Pim Verbeek basically did was, take the U-23 AG squad to Iran, and basically start the training there. After the Iran game, most will go straight to Doha, Qatar. Members of the finals can go back. Members of the AFC Champions League champions, should join from Syria. Among the AG squad, the ones that were U21 would be selectively chosen to play against U21 Japan under another assistant coach, Myoung-bo Hong. Hong will temporarily coach the U21 Korea team. It will be his first ever "head-coaching."

So the result was a total chaos for the
    1) U23 team that will go to Iran
    2) U21 team that will be concocted real quick with a temp. coach
    3) an F-ed up state for the K-League finalists.

Everybody's unhappy at the moment, with many fans calling for Pim Verbeek's resignation. I, however, don't think this is fair. Verbeek didn't schedule all this at the first place. He tried to come up with a right remedy that can satisfy most. He wasn't, by all means, thinking of taking the veteran players to Iran as that would ruin his plan for the younger generation in the long term, and the AG squad in the short term.

You can read more about all this debacle in the Korea forum. What Verbeek basically did was lie to the K-League finalists' head coaches. He promised to not take the players from Suwon and Seongnam to Iran, and that he only wanted them to train with the squad. But at the last minute, he decides to take them all except for captain Namil Kim(injured), and Hakyoung Jang.

Iranian football has lots of potential but there are many gangs who run the show...and for that reason we can never progress.

we need more than a disaster to wake up from this nightmare.

i dont think Iran losing to Korea would be a disaster.

If they lost to Taiwan, that'd be a disaster...

True. But then again it's not like we did THAT great against the latest game vs Taiwan.

Do you care to withdrawl your statement now that Iran won 2-0? Never judge a book by it's cover my friend. This new coach is doing the best he can, and he has been getting decent results.

and it ain't even over yet.

After the Iran game, Dongjin Kim, Donghyun Kim, Ho Lee all went back to Russia, Jinkyu Kim went back to Japan. The U21 members Chuyoung Park went to meet up the U23 squad that currently moved to Dubai. Players that are member of the K-League finalists went back to Korea.

The U23 Korea will play a game against UAE, but currently has only 13 players (10 field players) available, with all other players stripped off and sprinkled across Russia,Japan, and Korea. Oh, and the head coach(Verbeek) and assistant coach(Hong) are both in Korea too that just finished coaching the U21 game against Japan U21 in Tokyo.

This is one of the worst administrative scheduling I've seen so far.
