Our local newspaper in Wigan says that Valencia will be fit for the game against Tottenham at the weekend.

Valencia didnt play again today but it think we are just giving him a little time before he plays again as he's been injured quite a few times.

Better to make sure that he;s 100% fit before we put him back in the team.

Our local newspaper says he has been training for the last two weeks with the physio and fitness coach. They want to make sure he is perfect before they select him again because he's had this same injury 3 times now.

It says he may be ready for selection this weekend.

The manager says it's the same injury again :( .

He has been fine in training for the past 2 weeks but in the game situation it just went again.

I hope it isnt too bad and we can get him playing again very soon.

That's tough. Maybe it wasn't worth playing him if he wasn't 100% fit! I mean 10 minutes??? :( This is a pretty bad situation. His injury could get seriously worse if it hadn't healed properly to begin with. I wish him a full recovery, just would prefer they wouldn't take so many chances with him due to his injury until he has a clean bill of health.

We didnt take a chance with him for the past few weeks because of the injury. He has been in full training for the past few weeks so that suggests it had cleared up.

Just one of those unfortunate things.

Re: Luis Antonio Valencia, news & comments (r)

Wigan Athletic's Ecuadorian winger Antonio Valencia is in contention for the squad this weekend after recovering from the hamstring injury that has kept him on the sidelines for the best part of two months.

Valencia's last game was a brief appearance as a substitute in the away draw at Middlesbrough on December 9th, having at the time only just returned to fitness after an absence of a few weeks.

His return provides a big boost ahead of the game with Everton and Manager Paul Jewell has welcomed the news, saying it will add competition to the squad at a vital time.

"Whether or not he plays, I'll decide in the next day and a half but it's great to have Antonio back in the fold," says Jewell.

"He's a player who can make something happen. He's worked hard to get back to fitness and there's no doubt we've missed him. It's another body in there who will add competition, which is exactly what I want."

Jewell added: "Antonio's a great lad. He's travelled half-way across the world to a foreign country and without speaking the language to pursue his career and he's worked really hard on and off the pitch to blend in with the English way of life."

Valencia himself says: "It's horrible being injured and it's the most frustrating thing for a footballer. But the medical staff here have treated me really well and I've kept on working hard. I know it's important not to come back too soon, but I'm straining at the leash at the moment and I'm desperate to play."

Valencia got a straight red card for a stupid, stuipd diving tackle today.

He'll miss three games now and probably wont play again this season.
