Anybody thinking about getting rid of Heaps can go F themselves. The guy wears his heart of his sleeve and bleeds Revs blue. He plays with so much pride and I believe he's one of the best right backs in the league.

Going forward, I would rather have a guy like Dasan Robinson and his salary.

Truth be told, though, Heaps has a lot to teach younger players, especially heart. He'll be a good coach someday.

Yea but Heaps is not at the end of his career. Plus I wouldn't want a back line that might consist of 3 guys that have about 7 years of playing time between them (if you put in Riley or Leonard). Heaps is a leader, and he plays the game with the passion that I only wish half of the Revs did. Call me a Heaps apologist but from now on I'll be sticking up for this guy. A lot of players can learn a thing or two from him.

I just thought of this after I posted. Jim, why would you be concerned with salary issues? Are we going for a roster that is all under 100K?

Can't really argue with that list. Glad we didn't gamble with exposing someone like Ralston. Despite the fact that they've found significant PT in past years, Riley, Larento, and Leonard are all extremely replaceable.

    That means we protected...

(Sims), Reis, Parkhurst, Heaps, Joseph, Ralston, Dempsey, Dorman, Twellman, Noonan, Smith, and Lochhead (?!)

Lochhead is an odd choice. I would've rather help onto Hernandez, Riley, or Larentowicz, in that order. Would've liked to keep Cancela, but Nicol's clearly got something against him so there's no point in fighting it anymore.

Think so? I think Hernandez will be chosen.

I'm guessing they are protecting Dempsey to keep that allocation. Same with Joseph. All developmental players will be drafted as senior players, keep that in mind.

Look at Jeff's contract. I think he makes less then Andy.

I think Dasan is as good right now with a much better upside (some> none). His salary being much lower is an advantage when getting new players (or freeing up bucks to pay Twellman).

    That's who I'd take.
That's probably who MoJo would take, assuming he's like Nicol and coaches the way he played. I feel like Cancela would be about as valuable to Toronto as he has been to New England recently.

Hernandez's pedigre is much better. I think they want to have a better first season than CDC and RSL had (i.e. no Besagno with the first pick).

I think I might fancy Jeff over Daniel, however I watched every game they played. Hernandez being selected over Larentowicz in MLS Cup may come into play here.

WTF did we protect Lochhead for? And we give up Larentowicz, who makes $16000 per year, and Riley? I am displeased. At least we only lose one player...

Isn't he now an SI, and you have to protect all but one?

I think it may be the other way around. There are 3 SI's on that list.

As an aside, all these players are indirectly available to the Revs through a trade with Toronto, who is unlikely to select 12 players. Not much to choose from, but I'd take Mina or Buddle if the price were right

Probably because he will fill a SI spot and we would rather give away an older player who makes more like Pepe. Also, I think you can only leave one SI unprotected and that's John.

    RSL left Besagno unprotected.:D

If this were a two american expansion team year like in '04, DC would have been gutted. They left the best players unprotected, IMO.
