"And then on a pleasant Sunday evening in April, they had an awakening. They discovered their new home had a few things going for it when they walked into Robertson Stadium and found 25,462 towel-waving, noisemaker-carrying, screaming, singing maniacs. They found an atmosphere beyond their wildest imaginations.

"I thought maybe they did move us for the right reason," Waibel said."

Honore, you make good points - definately a tragic injustice, our team ripped out of here - I always remember the players banner: "keep us in San Jose!"...these guys are an awesome bunch, on and off the field...they know what time of day it is, and they've adjusted, but they haven't forgotten, which is very, very cool.

And god bless the Houston fans for recognizing the talent that landed in their lap and for getting behind this best-ever team...it is amazing that they are where they are, after what they've been through, and I think the Houston fans have had a lot to do with it. So I have no bad feelings towards players or the Houston fans.

Despite AEG and Don Garbage (and the San Jose mercury News, Gonzo, etc.) this is an incredible soccer story, and one which isn't over yet...

...I hope they crush NE Sunday

I think if you take a look at this article posted on another thread (this is not my find) you get a better idea. AEG exerted a sort of Tony-Soprano effort in their dealings with the city.

I view this the same way I viewed the whole season. While I can not call myself a "fan" of Houston, I root for our guys to do well because I want nothing but the best for them.

I watched their first match online and, even though they were clad in orange, I was SO excited to see Ching get his hat trick and the thrill the boys had winning. In their time here in SJ, we got to know them on a personal level. For that reason, I will be fully behind them on Sunday and the first time they come to play our new Quakes, I will be on my feet applauding their introduction.

Re: This final feels very weird

Other than Landon & Agoos in 2001, this club is and was a bunch of no names. Even Landon in 2001 was not really a star because he was only 19-20 years old coming from sitting on the bench in GMY. Both those guys have been off the club for quite a while however, and very few of the same players exist off of the 2001 team other than maybe DeRosario. Both Dom Kinnear & Frank Yallop built and/or set a precedent back in 2001 that is unmatched other than by DC United. The Galaxy have been successful also but they have had a great deal of help since the league's inception thru player allocations , stadia and whatever. When I look at the names NY brought in since 1996 and then I look at the Quakes/Dynamo dynasty, its unreal to believe that on paper those NYC boys have done nothing in comparison to the SJ/Houston club.

This will be the 3rd time this year I'll be watching teh former Quakes although I'll have to watch the tape replay. It still breaks my herat to watch them in those orange clad jersey's but I'll be rooting for them!

I wish the boys all the best today and I will be cheering them on. Dom is a class act and so are the core group of players. As a rookie coach Dom lead the QUAKES to an all time record last year and has followed that up by taking his team to the championship game this year.

I really appreciated his comments about this being for the San Jose fans as well and I know that a lot of the players feel the same way.

The Rev’s have had some pretty boring defensive finals and I hope that this will be an open attacking attractive final like the San Jose/Chicago final in 2003. They have two or maybe three players that can hurt us but we have five that can hurt them. We will miss Rico big time and that is the only negative, but Dom will figure it out.

I am glad that Houston has supported the team as the guys deserve nothing less.

The “powers-that-be” must be still scratching their heads wondering what makes this team fight and win like they do. They don’t understand it but we do and I can’t wait until the San Jose Earthquakes are in the final once more.

BS posters can fill you in on the history, but to keep up on what is happening now, go to www.soccersiliconvalley.com, and sign up for free to be a Soccer Silicon Valley member. This puts you on our email list which means you can read our periodic updates about progress to revive the Earthquakes. You can also view our blog there. Encourage as many Dynamo fans to join as you can, too. The more supporter's groups work and share information with each other, the more we can all help each other.

    You Rule!!

It's important to support other fans, even though we might not like their team. That's the thing that annoys me most about fans gloating over our loss of our team. They'd be gutted if they lost their team, and nearly any team could be moved or closed, with the exceptions of NYJ, stinking rotten El-Lay, and Chitcago. (And those teams with SSS now.) It's not like moving the Quakes made any sense for MLS or can be justified based on attendance or monetary losses or lack of a local investor. It was all about AEG wanting to control the venue. That kind of crap could happen to other teams. Though of course, there's less chance of that going forward.

In any case, fans need to pull together to promote the game, and the maybe the league. I won't be helping much with MLS until they put a team back in San Jose.

    QUAKES FOREVER!!
    GO WOLFF!!
    GO SSV!!

I turned it on about 35', after the Eagles game was over.

Exciting game, but I had to turn it off after Houston won (yeah, Houston won, if you TIVO'd the game and are reading this thread anyway then you deserve to have it spoiled because you are a moron). As happy as I was for our guys I couldn't take seeing them celebrate wearing orange.

I'd just came home and decided to watch the ending, which happened to be the penalty kicks. I was totally rooting for the Revolution to win - but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

Now AEG and the trolls here will totally spin the Dynamo's win as some kind of "proof" that moving the Quakes was the best thing for the team and for the league.

Anyone want to make a suggestion to SSV to make San Jose Earthquakes 3-Time MLS Cup Champions shirts?

At least the SF 49ers won today (and in HD, to boot), so the day isn't a total loss.

I'm glad I chose to watch Osasuna vs. Real Madrid and Palermo vs. Torino instead.

Coming up in 15 more minutes, France vs. New Zealand All Blacks!!! It's a "top of the table" (if there is such a table), much awaited clash to decide the best team in Rugby Union before the World Cup. Best team in the Northern Hemisphere vs. best team in the world!!!

    Go All Blacks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, because the San Jose Earthquakes haven't won the MLS Cup three times. They've only won it twice.

Today is the Houston Dynamo's first-ever MLS Cup win.

Then you'd better start before it is too late. ;)

I'm 1-1 with the two teams I wanted to win today (49ers and Revolution), which I suppose is better than 0-2.

    Goodsie,
I don't see what benefit AEG gets from it. What can they say? "We brought the team to Houston and they finally became champions?" Phil Anshits and Tim Lie-weakly are just double merd.

That was the worst PK I have ever seen. I can see getting overly-adrenalinized (no, that probably isn't a word, I don't care) and blasting it over the bar but that was simply a terrible shot. No placement and no velocity whatsoever.

Got to root for DeRo, Ching, Mullan et at. Congrats to them. Mullan was a bulldog all match long. Ching's goal after twellman's was priceless. And Pat came up big as well.

We've all had to adjust to this change in our own way. Wasn't sure if I would watch when this season started, but I'm glad I did. They've been an entertaining side, just as Dom's teams in San Jose were. As long as they've got players I recognize as "our guys" I'll continue to root for them. (That is, for the next year or two until we get the Quakes back).

This probably goes in another thread somewhere, but watching today I thought about a couple of things. Will any of those guys go out of their way to return to San Jose when the Quakes are reborn? If so, who? Another really tangential thought to this thread: what kind of pressure will the league put on Houston to send Serioux, DeRo, and/or Onstad to Toronto next year?

Anyway, congrats to the guys who played so hard for us the last few years, they deserve to hold up a trophy, no matter where they played this year.

Me neither, but they somehow will.

As ridiculous as that claim from them will be, it's coming in some form - just watch. And the trolls here will once again blindly lap it all up.

The funny thing is, are they both now whooping it up with the team like they did with the Fallacy in MLS Cup 2002, or are they standing in the background totally despondent like they did in MLS Cup 2003 (considering that some of the same players were with the Quakes back then)?
