Is there a thread somewhere doing the count?

    My rough count is:

    RFK 35k
    LA 8k
    Philadelphia 13k
    Columbus 16k

The FIFA website listed 8500 for AUS/RUS in Carson and 13500 for NOR/FRA in Philadelphia.

Should the US make the semis, they will play six games in six cities. Attendance at those games will be much greater than the others as would be expected.

FIFA appears to be reporting/estimating attendance seperately for each game that's part of a doubleheader.

how they do this is beyond me - but I suspect they are counting the gate up to the first half of game 1 and then again at the end of the second game.

The two numbers then would translate into attendance for each game.

This is where there may be some confusion out there with the numbers.

    Interesting.

Looked like a good crowd at the Razor tonight; it looked very good on tv. If 50k had been reported I would have believed it.

While the numbers are not as good as I would like to see them I think the WWC are posting reasonable and accurate gates. They did have quite a bit more of an uphill climb than they did in '99. Factors against the WWC include:

    *NFL season in full swing
*Schools in session (it's hard to take the miawannabes to the stadium on a school night)
*MLB playoffs are boring masses of people
*Foreign travel into the US is down after 9/11
*Air travel in the US is really hassle if you are trying to avoid a 6-10 hour drive
*Regular Joes like me didn't have the lead time to save money attend more games (I did get to C-bus)
*Regular Joes like me already had commitments for the fall (I'm reffing)

Overall, the numbers have been pretty good, but I think the attendance in LA has been disappointing. Is it just me or LA seem sort indifferent about having the Home Depot center? When the US makes it to the final I am sure there will be much Rose Bowl Regret.

I doubt US Soccer will have any regret about playing at HDC.
Most good seats for the final range between $275-$400 .

US soccer wants revenues from TV not attendance
    for this years WWC final.

    PGE was rockin' last night.

That's a very very nice little stadium. (OT - Wonder why they aren't tossed around more as an MLS expansion... Apart from the minor "no owner wants to jump in" thing.)

The capacity crowd was great indeed. Glad you enjoyed our old, cozy stadium.

Unfortunately the stadium plays host to minor league baseball and pointyball as well. Until Portland gets a big league baseball team with its own stadium it is unlikely there will be a push for MLS. And there is no ownership...blah blah.

Hopefully the atmosphere for the WWC games will at least land us a few Men's qualifiers. A sellout and a pro-US crowd would be guarenteed.

Isn't that the same place the US men's beat CR on a Tab Ramos or Balboa rocket in, like, 97?

I know that game was in Portland, but not sure about the venue.

At any rate, the crowd for that '97 game was one of the best I've ever seen.

Shows why you're not in charge ;)

I hope we're not treated to the ugly scene of less than 5K at a World Cup final on Sunday. We'll see how many real fans of women's soccer there are then.

While other aspects of PGE may be nice, the turf was horrible and I remember it being bad for the US-CR men's match as well. What was it like during the WC in 99? If it was good, what changed?

Great walk in crowd helped with ticket sales at HDC today, however it was not a sell out crowd.

Also, reasonable tckets prices for the 3rd place game helped too ($20-$65) with ticket sales.

I am amazed that 26K showed for a game where Mia Hamm was not on the pitch!

Perhaps this is the legacy of the '91ers!

I was there yesterday. I suck at guessing attendance, but I would say that the announced number was the real number.

BTW....Carson is a hella nice stadium except for the strict ass gestapo security idiots.

Before I heard the attendance announced I estimated that the actual size of the crowd was around 22K. There were quite a few empty seats in the midfield sections behind the team benches, which is where I was sitting for most of the first half, but all things considered I thought it was a good crowd, especially considering how expensive the face value was of most of the tickets. At least one German family I know of that really wanted to go to the final was scared off by the potential cost of driving up from San Diego and having to buy four tickets.

However, I was really impressed by the number of German fans I met who did just show up at the Home Depot Center hoping to buy a good ticket cheap. One dedicated fan flew all the way from Frankfurt the day before the match and was back at LAX only about two hours after leaving the stadium. He thought one of his friend's who played for FFC. Frankfurt would be able to get him a ticket and in the end she did. As a backup he also had the possibility of buying a $175 ticket for $50 lined up.

In the parking lot I was able to sell my $275 ticket for $75 to another German fan who had paid $25 for parking even though he didn't know for sure that he could even get a ticket. I sat with one of the sponsors from Emirates Airlines during the second Group D doubleheader and he was nice enough to give me one of his extra VIP tickets for the Final so that I could upgrade my seating location.
