Rival investment groups from China and Dubai were reported to be preparing £1bn takeover bids for the Premier League champions. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/low/football/teams/m/man_utd/6974787.stm
Well it would be interesting if they do reject a £1bn bid. Thats walking away from a £210m profit from a 2 year investment. If nothing more, it will show they were not in it for a quick proit. To be honest, I would rather United be owned by Americans over the Chinese or Arabs.
They'll be thinking that United could be worth 2 billion some day if there is a European super league, or clubs can negotiate their own TV deals. They won't be selling United any time soon.
To be fair, the arabs and the asians have more money then the americans and the arabs appreciate good football.
What would the owners have to do with the style of football played? That's purely determined by the manager and coaching staff, as well as the types of players brought in. Look at Arsenal, for example. Owned by old money, "proper" English businessmen who don't exactly seem like the type to be interested in Wenger's style of play.
How come our value has gone up when two of the last three seasons have been poor ones and we are in debt, it does'nt make sense.
I'd guess it's down to projections based on possible future revenue streams having seen what's happened so far. The new t.v. deal for one. The fact that they're still selling out despite ticket price increases might be seen by a potential buyer that they could bump it up a little more if they felt like it and they'd still sell. The streamlining of the company when they came in and sacked a number of behind the scenes staff. The auto cup scheme being implemented etc. etc. I'd assume that these probably all look like favourable situations to other businessmen looking in from the outside if the story has any truth to it. (Can't see it myself but what do I know?). Edit: All that ^ is on the assumption that these outsiders, if they exist, believe everything is healthy, of course.
Zippy i know this isn't on topic or anything, but why the hell do you have Gerrard as you're avatar???
Because they fully expect to make a profit out of it. Projections on the next TV deal are expected to rise once again and if United ever do get the chance to negotiate their own deal they'd make even more money than they currently do, upto 3 times as much. Plus, owning United would be a massive status symbol. Just as sponsors use United to grow their businesses, the new owners would probably do the same.
i woudnt ming the dubai consortium takeover united... dubains ( people from dubai) hav eNO political or personal interests when comes to bussiness, in addition that they are filthy ruch and have connections with royalty and also will increase the fanbase in the arab world which is what we do here really.... watch football in a Gahwa (cafe with hookah/shisha) all day long.. and were rich plus theyll pay off debts
Because we know what we got with the Glazers. Look at Man City. They have already signed a Thai player. Plus I don't like Commies. And I cringe at the chants we will hear if owned by the Chinese or Arabs. I'll leave it at that. I could be a lot more politically incorrect without much effort.
