    Who will win the jupiler league this season?

    Please say why you think this.

    I think it will be FC Brugge because they have a very talented team with enough players that are equally good. They seem to be more technical than last season and Balaban is a striker that doesn't miss much chances.
    I also guess they won't need to bother about the champions league as they're practically eliminated.

    I'm taking Genk, based on no facts at all. I'm truly clueless about Belgian football, so I'm hoping to learn more from all of you. I still haven't found a club to support yet, although having a site in English is always a big help.

    I went the Mauves, Anderlecht. They always win - so why go against the flow. They have Kompany, Baseggio, Mpenza, and seem to have loads of talent.

    If Standard and Genk had their English sites up I'd give them a thought.

    I like the city Brugge, ready to go back soon.

    I was reading the Standard Liege site in English earlier today. I am pretty sure it was the official site.

    There it is!

    I sent them an email asking about the English site, and they said it would be up soon. Good stuff.

    Next we need Genk to finish their site.

    I don't know for sure why, but I know a lot of cities and villages have different names in French and Dutch. I think it's something like Florence-Firenze, Milan-Milano, Turin-Torino. The French-speaking probably had problems pronunciating the /e/ after the /g/ (which makes it a very special /g/, which doesn't exist in French) so they slightly changed the sound so it would be easier to pronounce.

    some other examples: Antwerpen = Anvers (difficult /w/)
    Brussel = Bruxelles
    Doornik = Tournai
    and the other way around: Liège = Luik
    Mons = Bergen (just translated)
    Namur = Namen

    Some are just translated, some are probably for pronunciation's sake.

    I voted Standard to be the champions this year, Anderlecht and Brugge always winning the league is getting pretty boring.
    Probably won't happen though.

    Hi everyone, i saw they made a Belgian sub-forum, nice.
    Now to trie to raise the number of posters.

    I don't really support a single team but i always like it when Standard or Genk do well. Standard because they have the best fans of the league. Don't really know why i like Genk, probably because of the nice calm people that inhabit the underestimated region of Limburg :)

    I didn't know that about Standard's fan. Back in 1999 I took a bus tour of Europe with my family. Our bus driver was Marcerge from Liege, big Standard fan. Was surprised I knew anything about Belgian footy.

    Welcome Albert II,

    Are you from Limburg?
    I would like to see Standard and Genk stunt too this year. I also hope Standard will do well in the Uefacup.

    I'm from Duffel near Antwerpen, i just like Limburg.
    They always laugh at the "limburgers" but when i go there i always find the people to be very helpfull and friendly.

    I think Standard is going to do well in the first round of the Uefa-cup.
    I'm also curious about how Beveren is going to perform (that is if they make it tonight).

    As an Anderlecht supporter I voted for my team of course.Since a few years the title is for Anderlecht or Brugge and in my opinion it won't change this season.I don't believe at all the Standard will be champion.They cannot make a series of wins and they have always problems to be constant along the season.It's a pity for their supporters because they are really good as our king Albert II said :)
    BTW this is a very old joke about Standard: " how do you recongnize a very old car in Belgium ? -there is a sticker with "Standard champion" on it at the back :) "

    Standard is not gonna win this won, It's gonna be a nice battle between the 2 greats from belgium: Anderlecht and Club brugge: and it will be club brugge!! I hope ;)

    anderelcht has got more individual quality : big younster Kompany, Aruna Dindane, Jestrovic,Hasi, another youngster Van den Borre and the goalie Peersman

    to be really honest club brugge doesn't have that kind of talent but the are beter as a team then rsca, I think.
    but they still have big players like: Clement,Simons, Ceh, Spilar,Balban and hard working Verheyen!

    who ever win this one, it will be very close...
