Toronto................with the new stadium, it should be given priority. Montreal would be my second choice followed by Ottawa.

Well, I would have no problems with Toronto getting it, even though it be better for me if it was in Edmonton. The original thought (and probably the tentative plans in the CSA drawers) has Edmonton getting it, as FIFA prefers larger stadiums for the final matches of their tournaments (and Edmonton has shown it could sell out such a final, as it was jsut short of a sell-out, 55,000, for the Women's U19's in 2002).

Maybe it will depend on whether the surface is FieldTurf or grass. FIFA has said both are good for all but the World Cup, but I think a final match still deserves the real stuff like we got in Edmonton. Why not put real temporary grass in the Skydome (or the Big Owe in M-town, sans Expos now) for the semis, the 3rd place match and the final, and get MLB to schedule the Jays to be out of town for the week?

Toronto will get the Final. They will generate more revenue with 30,000 than Edmonton would with 60,000, Revenue is key.

Just the reality of the matter. Did you stay up all night to think of your response. Man your town could not support an A- League team. Now thats a Joke.

I don't really care... either Edmonton or Toronto is just fine with me.

And how exactly would Toronto generate more revenue from 30,000 tickets than Edmonton with 60,000?

For once, I actually agree with DoyleG.

Edmonton has had it's fair share of important national teams games, and
most attendances were not that great. Time to move any big games East
    for a change.

They would have to put artificial grass down in order to host Montreal to host it, so they are out and they aren't going to incur that kind of cost. Wasn't it announced earlier that Molson stadium is not FIFA approved due to their permanent football lines?

Molson has been FIFA approved until the current approval runs out in September, 2006, and was used for U-19 qualifying.

However, FIFA may not (or may) approve Molson for this tournament because of the poor gridiron line coverings. It certainly wouldn't be good enough to host the final match, especially for lack of sufficient seats.

I think it was a CSA press release that said they weren't going to even consider 2 stadiums for future internationals. Molsonl was one, I can't remember which the other was.

The Big Owe has a FieldTurf surface now, so if they wanted to play a final on artificial turf, the Big Owe could be a viable candidate.

There's work being done behind the scenes for a 20,000-22,000-seat stadium in Montréal, either new or refurbished CCR.

Does it have permanent football lines on it?

I doubt it, since the Alouettes rarely play there, annd the turf was used primarily for baseball.

I pretty sure they arent permanent. The Als and Expos used the same turf and there wasnt football lines on durring baseball games so i would say the lines are just temporary.

Whats gonna happen to the Big Owe now that the Expos have left for
greener pastures? MLS? WWE Wrestling? Maybe just turn it into a giant parking lot.

I believe that the Big O is the first stadium to have removable Fielturf(R) trays, for different sports.

Don't expect to see many sports events at the Big O, people in Montréal HATE it. The revenue comes from the Olympic installations (ie pool) and trade shows. Almost none came from sports.

Winnipeg and Calgary are no longer in the running to host a few games during the 2007 WYC.

  23. Lets put it in the new stadium in Toronto. It would be a great showcase for the final of the tournament. Ontario has been left out of the CSA plans for a long time now, so the time has come to give Ontario a big final.

Edmonton is going to host the final and they will guarantee a large "home" crowd.

like the large home games during wcq games and other national team matches when the fans came dressed up as empty seats. No Toronto is the only choice for the final, Edmonton should not even be considered as a venue, period.
