Go ahead and fold this into another thread where I'm sure it belongs, just thought some of you would appreciate my wife's comments about the Quakes' roster of the last many years. "How did we end up here? It's like we're the Island of Misfit Toys." Laughed for a while at the thought of poor Shea Salinas splashing around at left back, like that bird in the fishbowl. Thought about Beita and Morrow being declared misfits*, getting rescued from Buck Shaw, parachuting to a loving home and winning everything. *Re: "misfits": According to Mark (Watford via Canada) Watson we were supposedly not going to be as dependent on crosses. Which, give him credit, was one of the funniest lines in our entire tragicomic saga.
We ended up here due to John Doyle as our GM and a focus on a traditional 4-4-2 empty bucket strategy which is predictable. We have stayed here because our current GM made a poor decision in the first coach and has similar results with player selection. I'm somewhat optimistic about moving away from a 4-4-2 focused on wing play and getting the ball primarily to Wondo, but I'm in a "wait and see" holding pattern on player selection. Mix in that our youth development started later than most clubs and has not produced much.
Lovely filth. https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2018/12/dead-mud-man-had-sexy-boots-archaeologists-say.html
